I imagine Apple specialists won’t know whether they’re coming or going next Friday. Potentially having to deal with walk-ins, in store pickup and iPUPs. But hey, if there’s one company that excels in Logistics... oh wait, scratch that ;)

damn I wish I was in a smaller city than London, I mean surely I can maybe go to Bath and get it from the Apple Store there? lol
My experience from Cambridge is that I got the 7 Plus easier from Covent Garden than from the local Apple Store... I suspect London stores get much more phones so if you go early you have a better chance to get one...

If I get a crap delivery date on preorder ill go to my local apple store on release day, live in Norwich so should be ok if I get there early enough..... only problem is my local store is in a shopping center so not sure how early I can get there and beat crowds if there is multiple entrances lol

Yes this is exactly my position as well, tempted to call my local Apple store to find out what the norm is etc!

Spoke with my Business account manager in 3, he told me they will be getting stock for Launch day, he said they should be getting a decent amount of stock, good thing is, pre orders are at 9 so if you fail on apple.co.uk your next stop could be 3.

I personally already have myself 1 Silver 64GB reserved, Ill be trying to get another for family on friday.

Good Luck everyone.

Hmm. Although not an issue for me particularly, it would mean I stick with VF for my own use. Main issue would be selling on if I switch to an X2 next year. Worth bearing in mind, thanks. But my impatience may get the better of me..
They can be unlocked though for a nominal fee? (not sure if there's a time limit)

Can you buy it SIM free from Three?

Eek, apologies!

I’d also like to confirm this. I purchased my IP8+ sim free from them. It’s completly unlocked and did NOT lock to the first sim inserted.

They did a few years back but it seems they no longer do this.

Block all of the other entrances then get there super early and walk right through lol

Guys come on be serious...

Now Apple have said there will be stock in stores - they are encouraging queues - this is clearly because online orders will be delayed. And they want to have publicity and have people think they can get the phone in store.

The problem is now you will see the return of scalpers - people queuing up days in advance to sell it on at a profit.

You will have to turn up the day before to stand a chance of picking up a phone on the day; even then I think unless your the first 10 in line you might miss out. I really think stock will be beyond limited. We have never had an iPhone with so LITTLE stock on launch.

I will pre-order - and expect a delay. I might try ordering from a network as well - just to see if I can get one a second way - but I think 99% of people on this site will be disappointed.

I expect after launch day we will return to online reservations with limited stock everyday - so at least those of us who know how to work the online system have a chance.

The local apple stores to me are all in malls, I believe Apple will have a dedicated part of the parking lot for queuing so check with your local store as they will be able to advise you. If apple are allowing people to queue then it will be organised.

Yes you can

Wow didnt know they sold sim free thanks for the info. Another website to try :)

First time trying for the Iphone on Apple, How does the reservations work every morning at 6am after launch?

I have to disagree. When supplies are tight Apple says the exact opposite of what they have this tile: “there won’t be walk-in stock available...” - they said this last year for the 7. That they are promising walk-in stock before pre-orders even start is a highly promising sign.

Anyway, we will see in a few days.

Was there walk in stock for the 7, I can’t remember. I was working in London on the day of the launch, walked past the Covent Garden store - recall queues ?

Nah if there’s a good amount of stock in stores that means online orders will be fine to get

They wouldn’t prioritise walk ins or collections over online orders

Apple definitely said no Day 1 stock last year.

I think this is marketing - its not them saying there is tons of stock.

It is them trying to pre-empt the lack on online stock. I truely believe this is a game of hide and seek the stock.

I know they previously told people not to turn up - but there was online stock and delivery day orders for those phones. I obviously hope I am wrong because I am not queuing all night outside Apple.

Let's be clear: in Apple speak "walk-in stock" means stock that is available on a first come, first served basis for people who turn up on the day, without a reservation.

Those queues you saw were for people with reservations, e.g. through an up-front payment using the 'collect in-store' option when ordering, or through the iPhone Upgrade Programme.

Last year, Apple put out a statement a few days before launch - note that this means after pre-orders - saying there would be no walk-in stock for any Jet Black or Plus models of the iPhone 7.

That Apple is saying there will be walk-in stock for the X, and that they are saying this before pre-orders even begin, is a very positive sign.

I shall order via the online Apple store at 8.01 uk time and if i get a crap delivery date then its natural to assume that stocks of the phone will be low so I shall attempt to get one from my local Apple store and then cancel my online order. At least we have options
