I'm still confused on the best method on the app to upgrade if I'm on the iUP. Can anyone shed some light for me?

I've been on the upgrade programme for 12 months now with an iPhone 7 Plus and I want to upgrade on the 27th to the X. I'm worried that faffing in the checkout with iUP details will take longer than just buying the phone normally.

Could I buy it outright in via the app/website then take it to a store for a refund and then enroll that same device into my existing upgrade programme?

Is this a crazy idea?

The countdown is well and truly on! Even my emails are counting down!

I asked the same question and someone responded to say that this would work, but in other forums, they are saying it won't work if you open the box. What I take from others' comments is if you open the box and return it, Apple have to take the phone off you and send it back to HQ, they then give you a new phone. But if they don't have stock, they won't be able to do this.

If you take an UNOPENED box in, then I think they may be able to sell this to you. But last year my wife had this idea and the employee at the store said as soon as they scan the phone back in as a return, it goes back into the system and theoretically someone online could order that phone. It's a bit confusing and I'm a little weary of it.

I did plan this as my back up option!

From what I understand, iUP stock will be different to delivery stock as it will be based on what the store is getting. So really, all of us in the iUP will be in the same boat.

Using Apple pay in the app which card would it take it from as I have a debit and a credit card registered.

Also I want to use credit card for protection it gives, if using Apple pay is it the same as using a credit card to buy, eg would get the same benefits as paying with a credit card, or is it classed as a different type of transaction

Ipad and iPhone set up with Apple Pay app on home screen, will use one for home delivery, the other to try and reserve for in store pickup (my preference) or possibly IUP.

Then my computer will have various tabs for Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse, Argos, EE etc

Does anyone know how long it usually takes to pick up your phone if you choose in-store pick up?

I just work around the corner from the Apple store here. Could I nip around on my lunch break and pick it up?

Was also wondering this, if it’s less than 45 mins or so I’ll order it to collect at lunch as I work about 10 mins walk from the Manchester Arndale shop.

You normally book a 30 minute window. I assume they want to clear all people within those windows in time for the next batch.

Although if it is busy, I expect they may slip as the day goes on - so early pickups are more likely to be on time than later ones

Settings/Wallet & Apple Pay/ look at Transaction defaults and select which card you want as default
That is the Card that will show first with Apple Pay

I do wish the credit card provider I'm going to be using supported ApplePay. Them extra few seconds might count! :)

That's good news. How did you find that out?

Has anyone pre ordered from there before? Do they require payment up front or can you collect in store and pay?

8am aswell?

Wouldn't trust these retailers, they have no idea how much stock they will be getting, and will most likely end up delaying everyone's orders. Happened last year with Jet Black iPhone, so no thanks.

It's best to get it from Apple

Any ideas as to how you found out? And will it be at 8am?

I had been bugging them all day on social media/ phone. They didn't know at the beginning of the day but they found out recently.

They couldn't confirm the time to me unfortunately.

As ssrij said, most resellers are unreliable with launch stock and such, was just putting it out there as a backup plan!

(I used to work for an APR so I know how hilariously sparse stock tends to be!)

...not to put people off from the iPhone X and I'm not saying its an ugly phone or anything but I am SO glad I went with the iPhone 8 Plus at the beginning!

All the stuff I have seen and read state that hardly any apps will have support, at launch, for the 'notch' area at the top of the phone - meaning that these will just look plain ugly on the iPhone X.

This link also explains that devs won't have supported the notch area for their apps:

Thanks it was the debit! Changed now. Not sure wether to delete that other one in case? Just wired I don't want it off my debit card.

Also is it the same as paying for it with the credit card as if type in security number etc?

Something I know quite well from last year when Argos promised I’d get my Series 2 Watch on launch day, so I cancelled my 2-3 week Apple.com order. Argos then changed their mind about this and couldn’t provide any updates on when it would actually be with me. Definitely wouldn’t trust Argos with a preorder again, and probably not another reseller either!
