Myself and lots of others did that. I did it on four devices with two internet connections. I couldn't get into the store until 08:10.
That suggests it’s a holding fee just to check the payment method is ok and they’ll take the money once the systems catch up or it gets dispatched. Happened to me with the 7 last year.
Ordered 64GB Space Grey, got my order confirmation at 8.03 - 10 Mins later Wallet App tells me payment declined 
Phoned up Clydesdale Bank and they say its an issue with Apple... phone up Apple and they say its an issue with the bank grrr... Luckily they were able to just change the payment method Delivery date is 3rd Nov

There was definitely something odd going on this year, my iPad let me in but the iPhone and MacBook had no luck for another 5 minutes after I’d gotten my order in.
Similar to myself... me and the girlfriend each had MacBook and iPhone on the ball... only her iPhone worked with the Store app at about 8:10. None of the others started until 5 mins later. Very odd! I took mine off WiFi and dropped to EE with no luck.
£25? I paid £1149. Same price as Apple?
CPW website isn’t accurate. They told me in chat that they have low stock on all variants.. they best send me that email soon!!! Arghhhhhh!!!
I was reserving through the iUp upgrade screens. I didn't get into the store till 08:06ish. Web store came up before the app, went through that and got a weird 'great news, your iPhone is available for pick-up today' pop-up. Clicked reserve and it took me back to the main homepage. Thought it was odd, so loaded up on the iPad and sure enough, no reservation. Repeated the process on the iPad and luckily was still able to bag a 64GB SG for launch day collection. Had my confirmation email at 08:08.
Apple just loves to see people jumping through hoops to buy its products. I'm sure the 'shortages' are deliberate. It's a well known capitalist formula - anything perceived as 'scarce' or 'difficult to get hold of' creates demand and fosters high prices. I'm sure were there a steady supply from release day many would wait, have a look at the product, read reviews and then make an informed decision . . .
Jesus that was close, got through to a non-English speaking gent who said "OK I will cancel your order and re-order it" and which point I screamed NO.
Asked to be put through to someone else, updated payment info manually with them, all is good and status is Order in Progress.
Definitely won't be using Apple Pay in the future.

Which web page are you looking at to see the reservation online? I can only see it on the apple store app

Can you see your reservation online? I can see it on my phone and iPad (in the apple store app) but worryingly I can't find it on apple.com, and others are saying they can see theirs there!
Yeah they let people in in batches.. I was 08:08 too.. Couldn't of done anything differently.. Was refreshing phone app from 07:55..
I’ve already been charged... gone to my van and it’s under pending withdrawal but the fee has been deducted from my balance
Yea If I click manage reservation, it says you have no reservations!
I was scared to click check eligibility in case it deleted my current reservation or something!
I would have found trying that on all devices very difficult, Especially force closing and re opening, One Device obviously quicker.
I had an iPhone 7, iPhone 6, MacBook and PC all open. I got into the Apple Store app on the iPhone 7 and ordered the X way before any of the others would even load.
