Hoping for pre-order with in-store pickup. I can walk into town and pick it up from my local Apple Store.

First sign in for three years... my 6 Plus is now on it's last legs; the screen is broken and the battery struggles to last a full day (last time I'm waiting three years to upgrade). Shame that I'm out of the UK on pre-order day. I'm wondering - what will availability be like for users looking to go onto the upgrade programme for the first time be like?
Have bought an Android handset as a spare to tide me over until I finally receive mine - either on my return or in three months knowing the possible waiting lists...

No judgement on affordability or not from me here! Just curious because there are two distinctly different models coming and interested to see what people are thinking about the s models this year.

The ~£1000 is steep, was nearly there last year with the 7+ 128gb.

Unless there is something massively different next year I think I’ll be keeping this one for 2 years this time. (Don’t quote me on that in 12 months times )

No! I didn't think you were judging sorry if it came across that way.

Basically I was saying I wouldn't spend that on a phone. I think it's because I like my devices separate. I have the new iPad for games and streaming. And an iPod with all my music on.

I suppose if I didn't have those and my iPhone was to be my main device to be used for music and streaming and games then £1000 would be fine. But since it's not I can't think of a reason that would make me spend £1000 on a phone.

32gb is fine for me too. Due to having the iPad and iPod.

I love apple. I really do but I'm too old to be a fan boy. I'll get the 7s and I'll enjoy the crap out of owning it like I have done with all the iPhone's I've owned (3G, 3Gs, 4, 4s, 5 and 6s).

I'm with you there. Reserved my 6 on day 1 and picked it up at the apple store the following day with no fuss, so it's about to get it's 3rd birthday. Serious battery woes (anything under 45% and it could die at any moment), and very poor performance.
6pm Tues presentations are always hard for me to see live due to getting in from work, children's tea etc, but I'll watch the bits I need to and skip Ive's Marks and Spencer's videos (or is it just me expecting him to say things like "this is no ordinary AMOLED screen, it's an Apple AMOLED screen") - I'll be interested in what's coming on the apple watch, but my original steel is still doing what I need it to do.

Like @lyceumHQ I struggle to justify £1000 for a new phone. I heavily use my iPad and my macs. My phone is more the glue that keeps it together. I'll often get a text through to my watch and reply on my iPad for example. So I suspect it'll be a 7s for me which will be a nice big step forwards from my 6.

7+ 128GB is £819, far from "nearly" £1000. 7+ 256GB is £919, even that's not "nearly" £1000. The rumoured price of OLED iPhone, £949/969/999 can be said is "nearly" £1000.

Depends on perspective, I’m in the camp that in excess of £800 is close enough to a grand.

I’d do a merry jig if the top storage model is <£1000 and blow the rest on the wireless charger they’ll surely flog too

I was in the same camp but after giving the plus size a second try after not getting on with it with the one 6s+, the 7+ has filled the gap of me needing my iPad with me as much. Couldn’t go back to a smaller screen now.

Long time reader here too! I will be looking to place an order for pick-up in store and get on the iPhone Upgrade Program on the spot.

I used to be on IUP but Apple refunded everything due to my i7+ being defective 3 times in 7 months (same issue); hoping for better luck this time around!

EE let me off my contract early so I will be looking to land a nice sim only deal for use with the new bad boy!

For those wondering which is the best option to get the iPhone on release day, here's my 2-cents:

Reserving for in-store pickup: is the best option if you want to guarantee getting it on release day. The only downside is queuing up for a long time outside the Apple store whilst everyone just stares at you :p

Buying online: If you can order online as soon as it goes live, it should come on release day. I did that with my iPhone 6 Plus and 5S - the key is to make sure you're prepped to be in and out with your purchase (smash and grab :p). A few days before, make sure you have express checkout enabled and ensure your card details are properly set-up before it goes live. It's also best to inform your credit card provider, if you're using one, that you intend to make a purchase from Apple so they don't block any purchases at that crucial moment. Also do your research first and make your mind up as to what colour and size iPhone you want - no time to flick through deciding on a colour!

Finally, don't use the Apple website and only keep it as a backup in the background - use the Apple Store iOS app instead - much faster, easier and quicker to make a purchase. As soon as pre-orders goes live, click on iPhone > pick colour and size > click "Buy Now" (assuming you have Express checkout enabled) > review and confirm. The quicker you are, the more likely you'd get it on release day - it can be a matter of seconds which determines what day you'll get it. Hope that helps.

High five to the iPhone 6 Plus club! :) Good to see others with similar experiences to me. Can't believe how sluggish it's gotten over the last year, it's definitely time for me to upgrade. Sadly, I don't think my next phone will be an iPhone with the rumoured design and price, but i'm still holding on until the Keynote and excited to watch it live.

I'm on holiday in Spain next Friday (if the 15th is pre-order day) and I still have every intention of getting my order/upgrade in.

Is this still the case? I have no express checkout option on my web settings or on the iOS app.

Touch ID replaced all that it’s just add to basket, click buy, slap thumb on. Sit at front door for a week for the courier.

When I reserved the 6s Plus, I was given a time slot. Just rocked up 5 minutes before, told them I had a reservation, they sat me down and came out with the phone. I was out within 15 minutes.

This time next week, I'll be posting of a Happy screenshot, or a Pi**ed screen shot.

This is the most important launch, since the 6+ 3 years ago, it'll be reminiscent of the Black Stainless steel Apple watch thread.
I'll be ordering from the Gobi desert

So how do I go about getting on the upgrade program?

Do I just buy a phone online as normal for in store pickup and set up the upgrade program in store on pickup day?

it looks like there may be a significant delay in the iphone 8/edition delivery dates according to multiple reports i'm in two minds whether its better for apple to release it but in limited stocks so lots of disappointed people. Or open pre orders on the 15th and not have the launch day until sometime in october which should help with the supply issues.

I will have the samsung note 8 to play around from the 15th thanks to work so that should keep me occupied until the new iphone is delivered.

If there is a delay and it gets released in October, then I'd be ok with that as long as I'd have the phone locked in.

it all depends how constrained the supply chain will be i think the 7 and 7s will be easily available my worry is that the 8 will be constrained for many months but maybe its just another rumour and stock will be plentiful come launch day.

For me personally, I'm not going to settle for the 7S just because they might be in stock. I got on the Apple Upgrade Program so assess what the status was regarding the 8 and now what was rumoured is now pretty much going to be released, I will want the 8 no matter what.

Waking up to sad rumours today again saying the X won’t be out until October, November or even December.

October I can deal with (though I’m going away W2 October... knowing my luck it’ll ship when I’m gone!) but November and December will be hard to swallow especially having sold my 7 Plus and gone back to an old phone.

I hope beyond hope it’s all just nonsense and there is enough stock to supply preorders ordered in the first 30 seconds for this month.
