I imagine Apple are strategically leaking info on supply issues, so that it entices people to place orders ASAP. If supply was going to run smoothly, it would allow the consumer more thinking time, which could allow them to back out after realising £1000 for a phone is crazy

Haven’t seen it mentioned here, but you should be able to mark your selected device as a Favourite any time after the keynote ensuring a speedier check out process on Friday morning

Honestly these things are going to fly off the shelf regardless of price and the actual date these become available. I’m sure I read an article that most ‘normal’ consumers don’t even know what the new phone will be bringing. That will change come Tuesday when the news will be all over it!

If the phone won’t launch until October, it will just build up the hype and demand.

In regards to the price, now Apple have IUP it has the effect of making the device feel more affordable; when a consumer faced with paying that up front in one lump sum would rightly as you say have second thoughts (or blindly stick it on a credit card). Same goes with expensive contracts, a channel where Apple probably sell most of their devices through.

In terms of availability I don’t mind to be honest if it does come in October or whenever, just as long as when I order it, it comes on that date.

What irks me is when it’s released on date ‘X’ but slips within minutes to something much later

This is the market now. You need to pay to play.

It will stop working in Apple's favour sooner rather than later. Quality of output is slipping, if they don't start making products that people actually expect from Apple it will start to hurt. They won't die or anything silly like that. But lack of innovation will start to show in their wallet. Prices, which are already too high, rising and products not improving will harm them. They still believe they're in a position to demand higher and higher pricing, when actually it's more that they're just blind to how people actually perceive them these days. They're still on their theoretical high horse when actually others are doing better things than them now.

I find it interesting that some of those who comment negatively on the likely cost of the iPhone Edition would happily pay several thousand pounds more than I would on a new car. I go for a car in the £10K sector, yet they find it odd I might be willing to pay just a few hundred pounds more than they would on a new phone which I use multiple times a day.

My negative comment is aimed at my purchase.
When the Apple Watch came out I was happy for those who bought the Edition and enjoyed their enthusiasm for unboxing. A lot of people wondered why I bought the steel version but given I have scraped my watch against endless walls, etc and it's fine justified the price to me.
We all have our limits of what something will cost us; for me my phone is more the glue for other apple devices and what I don't spend on an 8 can go towards my watch upgrade either this version or the next.
I also reserve the right to change my mind when I see the keynote next week(!) but as an outright purchaser it does make me personally pause.

How long do valuations last for?

Im probably selling my wife’s iPhone 6 and she’ll inherit my 7Plus.

Probably going to use music magpie (14 day valuation I think) or Envirofone.

Same plan for me. Lock in is for 14 days. There’s a promo code ‘extra5’ which gives you 5% more.

I have a lock in of £477 for my iPhone 7+ but the back is looking awful out the case. Missus will happily take it though so no selling worries for me this year

So infuriating that after last years US iPhone Upgrade Program debacle Apple have decided to offer online upgrades so iUP customers aren't at a disadvantage when ordering the new handset (https://9to5mac.com/2017/09/08/iphone-8-iphone-upgrade-program/#comments) but this option isn't available to UK customers.

If that is the case, it may well be due to UK credit laws that are out of Apple’s control. Do you have to show ID in person in the US?

Depending on what the score is with availability, I might buy outright & then manually get iPhone Upgrade applied in store later. I had to buy outright in store last year anyway (and return a few days later to get the paperwork done) due to the problems they had with the credit application system on launch day.

I'm thinking of trying the iPhone Upgrade Programme this time around but after reading through the UK order thread from last year, I'm a bit concerned about getting rejected. I had no problem signing up for o2 Refresh last year, which is also a 0% loan, but from what I've read the iUP is more stringent. I'm employed full-time but still living with parents and my credit history is just over a year old with a couple of credit cards that I pay off in full each month. My Experian Score is Good, so maybe I'm just massively overthinking this?

How do you 'lock in' your price on Envirofone? They're offering £252.28 for my iPhone 6 Plus but when going through the process it seems like you have to enter your bank details and go through to completion. Thanks

Guys, we have 4 phones in total to sell before the iphone 8 release, what would be the best place to sell? Tried gumtree but getting too many low offers e.g £200 for an iphone 7+ 256gb!

Try sellmymobile.com. Also use ‘EXTRA5’ at envirofone. Values might appear lower than ebay but don’t forget to account for ebay fees of 10% plus 3.4% for PayPal

Gumtree, eBay and the like can be difficult with low ball offers to dodgy bids and then the eBay commission on top. Usual place are mobile phone recyclers and there are plenty of comparison sites out there to tell you who offers the best price. These companies will also try and knock off money from their quote for an nicks or scratches so not always easy to deal with. Also the price they offer will keep dropping in the build up to the launch and more greatly after that. Worth locking in some offers now if you can.

eBay and gumtree will eventually get you the best price ever but for a little bit less and more less hassle phone recyclers would be the way to go.

I've never used a recycling company before so any suggestion which the best one would be to sell to as there seem to be loads? I've sold phones in the past on ebay no problem but they were low value. Dont really feel comfortable selling a £500 phone on there let alone 4 of them lol

Checking eBay over the last few days, the price on of iPhone 7's seems to be falling, I've seen a few selling below the price Envirofone has given me. I think I've done the right thing.

I was looking at Mazuma Mobile as I've used them in the past and they've quoted me £410.00 (same as o2 Recycle).

With the 'EXTRA5' code Envirofone are offering me £478.28 for my iPhone 7 Plus 128GB (unlocked) and the price is fixed for 14 days.

Envirofone is good IF your phone is in flawless condition, otherwise they’re well known to discount by as much as 15% due to consmetic wear and tear. Had a great experience last year with MusicMagpie - no quibbles and same day payment. Also check out Mazuma who don’t appear on the site mentioned above. They guarantee they won’t discount due to cosmetic damage but may offer you a lower price than the others

I do prefer Mazuma Mobile (Local Watford company as well). But they are only offering £400 compared to £450 plus the 5% extra on Envirofone.

Once you go through the process, you get a text saying you have 14 days to send it in.

I like the idea of 'locking in' a price, but if you have to send within 14 days and lock in now you run the risk of having no phone for days or even weeks if low supply on the iPhone 8.
