I like the idea of 'locking in' a price, but if you have to send within 14 days and lock in now you run the risk of having no phone for days or even weeks if low supply on the iPhone 8.

Haha, yeah that's what I'm worried about. I'm going to be using an iPhone 5, which is ok. But I'm not sure I can cope using it for a month or two if I can't get the iPhone I want on the 15th.

I'm with you there. Reserved my 6 on day 1 and picked it up at the apple store the following day with no fuss, so it's about to get it's 3rd birthday. Serious battery woes (anything under 45% and it could die at any moment), and very poor performance.

Even if you buy a new phone you should consider replacing the battery in the 6. I had exactly the same issues on my old 6 and bought a battery from Amazon for around £10, the brand was “PowerBear” and it’s pretty easy to fit.

After 5 months it’s still reporting as perfect in the battery wear apps and lasts like it did when it was new again. It’ll give you a reliable spare phone or make selling the 6 easier if you’re considerig selling it.

I do prefer Mazuma Mobile (Local Watford company as well). But they are only offering £400 compared to £450 plus the 5% extra on Envirofone.

£360 ouch for mine on mazuma if eBay do a £1 max fee again soon I will put mine on there I will lock in on musicmagpie as well

Buy a cheap used phone and use it until you get the new phone. I picked up an used 5S 16GB unlocked for £58 off eBay and will use it till I get my new phone and then trade in the 5S and get some money back.

At least it will take you past pre order day. Then if you can't get one for release day, you can make a decision then.

here we all are again, love this thread each year :)

I must be the unluckiest though. Every year I have a variety of iphones/ipads running the apple store app, desktops and I refresh but never ever get in early. It's so soul destroying to see everyone on there getting their order in and still I get "store down" on all my devices.

I've come up with some crazy thoughts over the years... perhaps a windows device would work sooner (nah, tried a pc) perhaps it's because they're seeing all these refreshes from the same IP (tried a vpn, nope)... I just don't know how the heck the slots get allocated unless it really is simply that I'm mega unlucky and don't refresh at exactly the right time.

Anyone have any tactics that seem to help other than the usual App seems to get in there faster than desktop/web ?

I noticed the last few years that some of the supermarket sales implemented a proper online queuing system, I really wish Apple would do the same.

Anyway, look forward to see what you all get whilst I'm waiting for my january 2020 delivery slot ;-)

No, of course it won't be. That was always the least likely name.
[doublepost=1504869064][/doublepost]

Possibly £999, £1299, £1499 I wouldn't be surprised. Apple will ensure they well and truly rip consumers off with this device, and nobody should expect anything less from Apple.
I don't think they will go up in £200 increments.

£100 maybe, but not £200 (IMHO of course).

ISPs cache as well so I’ll be using 4G on the mobile app and WiFi on the iPads, 2 macs and the work PC VPN’d to my company ;)

I'm moving to the UK on the 15th of September and I was wondering if I should pre-order it via Apple's website or sign a contract with a carrier. What would you recommend me? Was there a carrier that offered contracts with iPhone 7 on the release date last year?

I very much doubt you’d pass a credit check for a contact if you’re only arriving in the UK on the 15th. Having said that, all the networks have their own pre-order lists for delivery on launch day.

Preordering a sim free handset to collect from Apple shouldn’t be a problem though.

Apple. I don't think carriers will even have stock of OLED iPhone to sell given how limited the stock will be especially at launch, and there's even reports that the OLED iPhone won't be released until late October.

Also I don't think you will get a contract so quickly without a credit history. You can try talking in-store, perhaps one of the carriers will allow you, but your chances are pretty slim.

I am going to be a student there, so there shouldn't be problems with the credit check. I doubt that the students in the UK can't use mobile network.

just locked in around 525 for my iphone 7plus 256gb through envirophone which is the same as o2's upgrade on us option i'm only after the iphone x edition and if there is going to be a delay i might as well upgrade via o2 as i believe i get to use the iphone until my order is shipped to the local store. I don't believe that the o2 upgrade on us option is as speedy as buying out your contract and then ordering the new iphone so i might have to do that. so as you can tell i'm undecided lol

I am a student as well in UK. Been studying for three years now. You don't understand how things work, without a credit history you will not get any kind of contract (whether it's phone or broadband) or any kind of loan (like the one offered by Barclays as part of the iPhone Upgrade Program) and also you will not be eligible for any credit cards (except maybe the ones with 50-60% APR).

It takes time to build a credit history. Even I couldn't get a contract when I arrived here in 2014. You may be able to get a SIM only contract, but most likely you'll only be eligible for PAYG (Pay as you Go) plans. Neither SIM only or PAYG plans include a device. You use your own device and you only get a SIM.

Contracts, loans and credit cards all require a credit check (and also that you've lived in the country for 2-3 years, they ask for addresses you've lived at for the past 2-3 years in the UK). Some even require you to be on the electoral register. Also too many checks in a short period of time can hurt your credit score.

You should read more about how to build and maintain a credit history and a good credit score.

Has anyone any idea how the iPhone Upgrade Program will work for those of us that got a 7 or 7+ last year?

The launch day of both the 7 and the upgrade scheme was chaotic. The credit checking systems crashed and despite pre-ordering and getting a guaranteed pickup window I had to queue at the Apple Store at Bluewater for a couple of hours only to be told that Barclays could not deal with the demand. After a near riot, those that had reserved were told they could buy the reserved phone outright and then bring it back within a month, return it and then take out the Upgrade Program.

I jumped through all those hoops and have been very happy with my lovely Matt Black 7+ but am looking forward to getting my hands on the new flagship 8/X/Pro.

My concern is that Apple will not make it easy for us to upgrade as we have 18 months to hand back the old iPhone to exchange for the new one. We are eligible to upgrade after 11 months but the phone isn’t ours until 18 months. Effectively we could end up paying £hundreds while waiting for availability of the new model.

Would love a little reassurance. xxx

Nobody really knows until Tuesday. Apple will reveal more details and the iUP website will reflect that, so you should wait till Tuesday and then check the iUP website for more details. Most likely you'll have to reserve it online and then either mail in the iPhone or visit an Apple Store to return it, either when you go to collect your new phone or anytime before that.

That sounds so sensible and I really hope that’s how it works out. I’m not looking for some sort of special priority to get my hands on the new iPhone but really don’t want to be penalised either. Either way I will be venting my love or fury on here!

Without tempting fate my iPhone 7 Plus is in pretty good nick; I'm not sure if I've been more careful this year but if Envirofone knock me down I'll assume they are pulling tricks!

Would have considered Mazuma Mobile but I've a balance of £360 with o2 to settle if I upgrade early and any extra cash would come in handy towards the upfront cost of the 7s Plus (Not really bothered about iPhone X).

As I was saying yesterday a £1 eBay promo would be good ,they have launched £3 promo max selling fee 5 items that will do me instead of a recycling company :)

As Ssrj says, if you don’t have a UK credit history then I fear you won’t be able to get a contract. You’ll need to get a store card or something (which generally have high APR to cover their losses) to build up a credit history. I lived in New Zealand for 2.5 years and when I arrived there I had the same problem. I got a store card which then allowed me - after a few months or so - to get a credit card.

Have a look on www.moneysavingexpert.com. It has a lot of useful information about how UK banking & personal finance works.

I think one of the advertised benefits of the IUP is that you can upgrade your phone every year, so I don’t think Apple will make it too difficult. I recall that in the US last year there were lots of complaints about how IUP worked for upgrading at launch & they had to change things. Hopefully they’ll have learned from that & will make the process easier. The IUP customers are often the most loyal & so Apple would be ill advised to piss them off!

I picked my 7 up at the Metrocentre in Gateshead in the afternoon & by that time they were telling people to buy outright & come back later or to wait & hope that the systems started working. Even after buying & returning a few days later to transfer my phone to IUP, the transaction didn’t work properly & the poor guy had to go to look through every transaction log to find mine. I can’t complain though, as I got a free leather case out of it!

I’m hoping that we’ll be allowed to order & buy outright before transferring the device to the IUP programme. That would be better for them too as the IUP process on launch day will be quite time consuming for their staff so delaying the need to do the paperwork will free up staff for other purchases. Also means that store stocks will be available for walk-in customers.

Received the same email this morning. I'm quite tempted putting it on and seeing what it goes for.
