LONG time lurker (such a seedy word), first time poster.

I tried to pick up an iPhone X on launch day only to be let down by the App on 2 devices and ended up ordering on the website but with a delivery of 4-5 weeks (28th November). I honestly think Apple will improve these dates in the coming weeks.

For all the people thinking of trying to get walk in pick ups - i have phoned 2 stores and been advised not to as its likely there wont be any as most, if not all, will be taken by reservations.

I have ordered with Three for delivery on 10th (they are still taking orders on Silver 64GB for 10th) but I had to buy out my existing contract and pay for the phone up front - came to about 750-800 so 200 cheaper but my tariff is an extra £12 a month.
Welcome!

Think the ones on amazon are better options for the price

Will get a standing one then get the Apple one when it’s out next year

anyone planning on getting the wireless chargers from Apple, they have plenty in stock
I was actually looking into investing in fast charging (cable and charger) rather than wireless chargers. Seems more practical to me, since I won't be able to comfortably use the phone while wireless charging. It's a cool way of charging though, but I'm not certain if the novelty of it will wear off.

Any recommendations?
I'm going to hold out for Apple's AirPower Mat (due next year). I already have an Apple 29W cabled charger for my iPad Pro so will use that until then.
What do you need for fast charging, is it specifically have to be Apple charger and cable?

I though fast charging is coming to wireless with a software update from Apple on the future, or will that still be slower than wired fast charging that works now... Confusing!

Welcome to MacRumors!

The app has been the quickest way to order for previous launches so it was a surprise on Friday that it seemed to be such a lottery. I was lucky, I got in at 8:05, not long before the launch day stock ran out.

Ya, I think because so many blogs, vlogs, channels etc etc had advised that the app was easiest then i think EVERYONE and their dog were using it.

Oh well, im sure I can last.

Fast charging on wireless will still be slower than wired fast charging. Check out this article and this support article as well.

Asked Carphone Warehouse about the whole "locking to the first SIM thing" and here's what they said

Yes, the phone will be unlocked. However, we cannot guarantee they will work with a foreign SIM card, as they are designed to be used with UK SIM.

Attention CPW Customers

If you’ve placed an order with them I suggest giving them a call and asking for your “fulfilment date”.

I ordered 8:20 and even though everywhere it says delivery 3rd Nov it’s actually now 10th.

They’ve been absolutely awful, taking money straight away and not informing customers if the delivery date change.

I think the vast majority of people who have ordered through them will be disappointed.

Just a heads up.

Just phoned them - Similar story here. Everything saying 3rd, now they're saying "looking like the 10th"

Does anyone know if there's a way to track shipments (via UPS or whoever) like all of the Americans are doing?

I'd quite like to see the journey from China (I presume) to my house on Friday over the course of the week :)

Regarding Face ID - all apps that support Touch ID will automatically support Face ID without any work needed from the developer.

When you see developers saying it has been updated for Face ID all they really mean is they have made the app aware that Face ID is a thing. E.g. before it might have said “use Touch ID to log in” on a banking app, and they updated it to say “use Face ID to log in” if the app detects you’re using an iPhone X.

In other words the update is very very minor, usually just wording changes, and that’s why some banks have already pushed out updates.

Bingo, the LBG group apps (Lloyd’s, bos and Halifax) will all have the update to support it.

The change itself is minor, just needed internal bank sign offs etc

APPLE WILL NOT CHARGE YOU UNTIL ITS ON THE WAY TO YOU. That’s why phones being shipped to customers direct now are being charged.

In the case of in store pickups this means earliest Wednesday next week; probably more likely Thursday.

So don’t worry.

yeah don't worry, i ordered for delivery using apple pay and it works like a card in a card so that will be why you don't have "pending" on your bank app. you'll find the transaction is approved though your banks apple pay service and it will just take your money once its shipped or even when you pick it up. if your order is at the PFD stage they have processed your order thus been given authorisation your card is valid, can pay for the device and authorised.

We need to wait until they have shipped, then Apple will link to the UPS website which will show arrival/departure scans at their hubs. Flight tracking websites can then be used look for the appropriate UPS flights (assuming they are coming from China).

There's a possibility that they could be on their way and the Apple order page would still say 'Preparing for Dispatch', as has been happening in the other US thread. I'm just keen for something to help pass the time haha

What time did you order with CPW?

I ordered 07.55 and I am still being told 3rd over the phone and via Twitter (having given then my order number)

This whole reason of confusion is why I’m not cancelling my Apple 2-3 week delivery order.
