After comparing the specs of both iPhone 8 plus and iPhone 7 plus. I've decided I'm gonna keep my iPhone 7 plus and pay off the reminder of the monthly upgrade program and grab one of the brand new phones next year.

iPhone 7 and 8 are exactly the same except for a few new features.

I have to say I'm left feeling utterly deflated after that.

Sure the X looks nice, but I'm really not sold on the face recognition idea at all. For me, Touch ID has always worked great, and face recognition almost feels like a step backwards.

I've got a 7 at the moment, so in that respect, the 8/8+ don't even seem to hold that much appeal as an upgrade.

I may change my mind, but particularly given the horrendous pricing, I can see my wallet staying in my pocket this year.

Yea totally agree with you. Especially that when he first showed off Face ID in the Keynote, it failed to recognise his face and instead went to PIN number input #FAIL.

If they had made a significant difference between the 7 and 8 (like perhaps, a smaller version of the iPhone X) then I would have upgraded. This year is gonna be a BIG. FAT. NO.

It didn't "FAIL", it happened because the phone hasn't been unlocked for a while, so Face ID got disabled. Just like it happens on current iPhones with TouchID, if you don't use it to unlock the phone for a while you have to enter passcode to re-enable Touch ID.

Nice spot.

Am thinking of sitting this one out this year, despite being on IUP making it seem a no-brainer on the face of it.

The lack of a 128GB option on any model is a blow as I'm at 67GB - yes I can make some cuts to music but will always be bumping against the limit. I'm not paying the extra for 256GB. While costs of the 64GB 8 are similar to my current payments, by not upgrading I'll save ~£150 next year when my payments end in the early summer.

I may yet change my mind of course but that's how I feel at the moment.

I am going to see what the contract prices are like, I can get together enough money to pay my contract off completely in November if I choose to but it's wiser for me to stick with my current provider and see what kind of deal I can get Jan 18 or so.

Surely that only applies after a power cycle?

Anyway, wouldn't you expect Apple to have the iPhone ready to "play"?

Looked like a very embarrassing #FAIL to me.

Approaching the end of my 2 year contract on my 6S+. I was sure I was going to get the iPhone X, but just cannot justify it. Can't even justify the 8+ at this stage. By the sounds of things, others are in the same boat and skipping this gen. Hopefully enough do the same for Apple to take a hint that it's just too expensive!

Have to say I'm a little pissed that there's no 128GB, I still had 40GB left on my iPhone 7 Plus 128GB.

It's a sign of the times that the 64GB models are looking like the iPhone 48GB models... I like the photography features in the 8S but dropping nearly a grand for a phone doesn't sit right with me...

"The passcode can always be used instead of Touch ID, and it’s still required under the following circumstances:
  • The device has just been turned on or restarted.

  • The device hasn’t been unlocked for more than 48 hours.

  • The passcode hasn’t been used to unlock the device in the last 156 hours (six and a half

days) and Touch ID has not unlocked the device in the last 4 hours.

  • The device has received a remote lock command.

  • After five unsuccessful attempts to match a fingerprint.

  • When setting up or enrolling new fingers with Touch ID."

No, that's why they had backup phones. Things don't always go right and according to plan.

For those wondering/ haven't seen anyone post it yet the low monthly pricing for the X and 8.

Space grey. Not really bothered since both are black but definitely wanting the grey because of the price that we are paying and I’m not settling haha.
I havent had a black iPhone since the 3G gosh what memories, I think I am heading in that direction too... currently looking at pretty cases I can get :D

But this should have been a "hot" phone. I missed this part of the keynote but even though I'm sitting out the X, I was intrigued to see others using it because the iris recognition on my Lumia is a dogs breakfast I gave up using ages ago. Yes, not comparing like with like but the whole thing about having to look at my phone whilst in public embarrassed me!
