It’s all about the X.

Given the poll shows around the same number of people getting the X 256gb compared to getting ANY variant of the 8/8+.

Surprised that the X 64gb is not the popular model. Apple have done well knowing most people won’t find it big enough.

A poll on a geek forum, who would have thought...... :)

I don't think availability in-store is a great yardstick of popularity. Only the passionate would get in-store on launch day and I assume the passionate are getting the X. There are delays on most phones for delivery, which is how most will purchase.

Also, many will be getting via carriers.

I've realised that for me, getting in-store is really nice, I can do it on my way to work in the morning.

I went for 8 plus 256gb as it's £200 cheaper then x will be. I don't want the wait factor for one and secondly I don't want to be a beta tester for the x. I'd rather wait for the second generation.

Same for me, plus you can add the lack of Touch ID to list for me as well. Also I still like the design and feel the 8+ will probably be the ultimate version of said design as it will no doubt be retired now.

I suspect there are a heap of phones left because

A) most people with a 7 or 7+ won't 'upgrade' to an 8 or 8+. It's a heavier phone for a tiny speed bump and a slightly better spec camera? Even with my apple fan girl status I couldn't justify that!

B) the people mentioned with the 7 or 7+ will go for the X if anything. For me, with a 7+, the idea that I can get a bigger screen with a lighter weight and smaller phone is awesome. My old lady eyes are the reason I switched to a plus in the first place (6+)

That is the link, you have to navigate to the right place unfortunately. Here is what it says:-

RETURNS POLICY

Our 28 Day Approval Guarantee

We will replace or refund most goods provided they are returned to us within 28 days of receipt complete, unused, in their original packaging and with any security tags intact. Our Approval Guarantee does not apply to some goods or may apply only if certain conditions are met. These goods are identified on the product page and any such conditions are set out there. Returns are free under our Approval Guarantee. If you return goods outside the scope of the Approval Guarantee and you have not exercised your legal right to cancel (explained below) we reserve the right to return the goods to you at your cost or to accept their return subject to making a deduction for any loss in value of the goods arising from your handling of them and a charge to cover our processing cost.

Your Right To Cancel Your Order under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations.

You also have the right to cancel your order under these regulations. However, this cancellation right does not apply to personalised products, perishable goods, audio & video recordings and computer software which has been opened and goods that are unsuitable for return for health or hygiene reasons if they are unsealed after delivery. The cancellation period will expire 14 days after the goods are received by you or by a third party nominated by you to receive the goods. If your order is for multiple goods for separate delivery, the cancellation period will end 14 days after receipt of the last item. You must clearly communicate your decision to cancel to us before the end of the cancellation period, for example by using the returns note contained in your parcel or by using the model cancellation form in our website returns help pages, which you can send to us via webmail or post. If you cancel, we will reimburse any payment received, including the standard delivery charge, by the original means of payment. Where the goods have not been delivered, the reimbursement will be made within 14 days of the cancellation. Where the goods have been delivered, the reimbursement will be made within 14 days of us receiving the goods back or us receiving evidence that you have returned the goods, whichever is earlier. You are responsible for returning the goods to us if you cancel under these Regulations. If you use our courier to return the goods, you will be responsible for the cost of the return. In such cases, we will deduct the delivery charge from your refund so that you do not have to make a further payment of the collection charge. Additionally, we may make a deduction for any loss in value of the goods arising from any unnecessary handling by you.

Consumer Rights Act 2015

If any product we supply fails prematurely due to an inherent fault (manufacturing defect), we will provide you with an appropriate remedy e.g. a repair, replacement, or refund.

Supplier Helplines

If you report a fault with an electrical or furniture product, we may give you a supplier helpline to contact. We have arrangements in place with these helpline providers for them to identify the cause of any fault (we do not have the necessary technical expertise to do this) and to offer you an appropriate remedy. If you are dissatisfied with the service provided by a particular helpline, please inform us and we will take back control of the matter. Most helplines are open 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday.

But it says:
"...they are returned to us within 28 days of receipt complete, unused, in their original packaging and with any security tags intact....."

I can imagine a vulnerable person being told by Very customer service "you cant return the item, look its in writing, would you like me to email you the T&C"

Then with all due respect, the X is not for you. It's shows a little more content, but the content is not bigger as the resolution/DPI is higher. In fact, it will be worse in that respect to the Plus.

Also the "tiny speed bump" is the same for the X ... same A11 chip.

The B option is definitely me. As well as being an early adopter in most things I buy

Just abit of advice - the X won’t give you any more width than the non plus.

Apple have either got way too much stock or everyone is waiting for the X never known a new iPhone to be in stock still after pre order day
Actually, with the original iPhone in the UK (released November 2007) Apple badly misjudged demand bearing in mind the very high price (relatively speaking) and the fact that there was no 3G (only Edge). They had original stock well into 2008 and IIRC dropped the price by £100

Bingo

I wonder how many people are buying the X because they firmly believe they are getting a Plus screen in a non-Plus form-factor.....

Yup, I’m sure the average consumer won’t have a clue, but for me it’s hitting that sweet spot. Getting more screen real estate but keeping the the form factor in a manageable size. I’ve got use to the plus size in the last year but still can’t reach the top right (I’m left handed) without readjusting my grip or using two hands to do so and having the year of dropping it, which I’ve not managed luckily to do.

Sorry if this has been covered, it’s a large thread. If I want to do the iPhone upgrade program with Apple, can I pre-order when pre-orders go live? I know it’s in store only, so can you do in store reservations right away?

That's cool. I can't give up the Plus size screen dimensions and aspect ratio. To me, the X is to the 8, as the 5 was to the 4s. Taller :)

For the X? Based on yesterday with the 8, there is a link to reserve for IUP and you go in store and sign up. The issue with with the X will be stock and if stores have any available. The likelihood will be that there be a wait for stock to be available and the only way to get one on launch day will be one of the lucky few to hit the buy online when pre orders go live in 42 () days

The last and only time I got an iPhone on launch day at a store was for the iPhone 4. I queued with a friend from around 6am, it was a cool experience but never felt the need to do it again.

Same here. Did it for the 4 and it was fun but no intention of doing it again. Take my chance with online pre-orders.

Feeling a bit annoyed I signed up to the upgrade programme, It does work out as way more expensive than buying the phone outright.

Last year I bought a 128GB 7+ If I bought outright without AppleCare I would have paid £789.

AppleCare is pretty redundant in the UK.

Currently on Envirofone I can sell my 7+ for £457.38. So essentially I would have only paid £331.62 for the phone.

Am upgrading to an X so say I can get it on launch day I will have made 12 monthly payments + the deposit. Total - £582.40! £250 more!

If the iPhone x is hard to come by and I have to pay another months finance it will be £626.85 I will have paid for my 7+

Definitely getting off the programme ASAP! I think iPhone payment or just buying outright make a lot more sense.
