Feeling a bit annoyed I signed up to the upgrade programme, It does work out as way more expensive than buying the phone outright.

Last year I bought a 128GB 7+ If I bought outright without AppleCare I would have paid £789.

AppleCare is pretty redundant in the UK.

Currently on Envirofone I can sell my 7+ for £457.38. So essentially I would have only paid £331.62 for the phone.

Am upgrading to an X so say I can get it on launch day I will have made 12 monthly payments + the deposit. Total - £582.40! £250 more!

If the iPhone x is hard to come by and I have to pay another months finance it will be £626.85 I will have paid for my 7+

Definitely getting off the programme ASAP! I think iPhone payment or just buying outright make a lot more sense.

Not really, if you want peace of mind over accidental damage like screen replacements

iUP is no more expensive than the cost of the Phone and AppleCare+. There is no premium.
You don't HAVE to trade in your phone to get an upgrade on iUP, you can settle the credit some other way.

Has anyone had any experience with pre-ordering iPhones through Argos and getting them delivered on release day? I get 10% discount there which would make buying the X £100 cheaper than Apple but I’ve heard mixed reviews about their stock levels on release day with some having been promised RD delivery but then being told there’s no stock left.

Wanted to get others opinions prior to Oct 27th?

No, but I've had trouble getting Argos to replace or refund items. I once had an iPad with a yellow screen that they wouldn't refund. In the end I had to get my local Apple store to WRITE THEM A NOTE to confirm it was faulty!

Now I just buy from Apple.

Same here. Did it for the 4 and it was fun but no intention of doing it again. Take my chance with online pre-orders.

Only ever queued up once and that was for the iPad 2. Was there for 4 hours I think and didn’t get the size I wanted. Surprisingly Tesco, yes Tesco delivered the one I wanted a few days later!

Since then I’ve always preordered for home delivery

I queued for the 4s and the 5 at my local O2 store. The 4s was launched on my birthday and I had "reserved" a 64GB 5 with them (highly improper, but at the time my missus was a smoker and used to chat to the O2 guys out the back of the shop as her shop was a few doors down lol)

I got my iPad Pro there recently for that reason, mates discount!

The problem you’ll find with most retailers will be stock for launch. Look back at last year for the 7+ JB. Was near on impossible to get a hold of. I can’t see the X availability being any better.

Best option might be to try reserve at both? If you don’t get a launch day X from Apple you’ll know straight away; if you get a reservation with Argos it might turn up sooner and cancel the Apple one?

But it says:
"...they are returned to us within 28 days of receipt complete, unused, in their original packaging and with any security tags intact....."

I can imagine a vulnerable person being told by Very customer service "you cant return the item, look its in writing, would you like me to email you the T&C"

That ONLY applies to the 28 Day Approval Guarantee which is in ADDITION to your legal rights

Never queued up for any phone or tablet would rather wait at work out home for delivery.

But I feel this time I might be waiting a while in the Apple store

For people considering buying their phone outright but who don't want to pay full whack in one go. Don't forget you can use PayPal credit and get 4 months 0% interest on purchases of over £150, this is what I've done to spread it out a little. I would've done iPhone upgrade or payments plan but don't want AppleCare and my nearest Apple Store is 45 miles away and don't think I can be bothered to make the journey every year!

Also the PayPal 4 months 0% is reusable in that any purchase you make over £150 takes advantage of it automatically and the offer doesn't expire.

If I may, you're sounding a little entitled.

Is the shipping date of November 3rd the day you get the phone, or the day they will actually start to ship it? Trying to figure out if I need this delivered to work or home as it's on a Friday

I had literally just purchased it and Apple wouldn't replace it as I had purchased it from someone else.

If you are one of the lucky ones to get it for launch date, you will receive it on November 3rd.
If you are not in the first 1 second of people to pre-order, you're getting it around valentines day 2018 :)

I think that poster meant for fault repairs.

Although we only get 1 year warranty here in the UK, Apple are well known for repairing/replacing devices purchased from them into years 2 & beyond.

They don't have to legally, but they know that under Consumer Law they could be taken to court and in the event of a premature failure of one of their premium devices, they'd almost certainly lose, so they offer it up front.

People think we get 2 + years warranty here in the UK, we don't.

Looks like I'm setting my Apple Store app details to my work address then ;)

The other thing is that you get your device repaired by Apple, not some dodgy 3rd-party that does it the cheapest for the carrier etc.

IF you manage to pre order one and it states delivers 3rd nov, you will get it that day.

But what the chance of there being enough stock for launch day is anyone’s guess but the rumblings are not sounding good. You’ll only know when you preorder what day you will get the phone. Apple’s estimates are pretty accurate

Also, you will not know the day until closer to the time. You will get a "dispatches in 7-8 weeks" ... AND, you can't change the delivery address once purchased (I don't believe without cancelling/reordering)

The last and only time I got an iPhone on launch day at a store was for the iPhone 4. I queued with a friend from around 6am, it was a cool experience but never felt the need to do it again.

I was an active member of the old style O2 forums at the time and I remember some random poster, asking if I would give them a lift up to the Kingston Apple Store to go and queue for the iPhone 4 (I'd posted I was going up there) so on the day of release, I went and picked up this total stranger from somewhere and up we went together!!!

Got our phones within the hour and was a great experience queuing outside the Apple Store (the atmosphere was electric!!!).

Good job he didn't turn out to be an axe murderer or something.....!:p

I suspect there are a heap of phones left because

A) most people with a 7 or 7+ won't 'upgrade' to an 8 or 8+. It's a heavier phone for a tiny speed bump and a slightly better spec camera? Even with my apple fan girl status I couldn't justify that!

B) the people mentioned with the 7 or 7+ will go for the X if anything. For me, with a 7+, the idea that I can get a bigger screen with a lighter weight and smaller phone is awesome. My old lady eyes are the reason I switched to a plus in the first place (6+)

I'm jumping from the 7 to the 8 Plus as I see that as a substantial upgrade!

Isn't PayPal Credit charged at 14%?

I find it amusing that people don't see the 8/Plus as a significant upgrade to the 7/Plus

It is, in the same magnitude the 6s/Plus was to the 6/Plus, and the 7/Plus, was to the 6s/Plus.

It has all but the screen and form-factor of the X (if considering the Plus)

I've been updating my payment & address details on various websites in hope of pre ordering an iPhone X. The Apple Store app will be the first place I try. But are there any other places I should try? So far, I've got:

Carphone Warehouse
Argos
PC World
John Lewis
Tesco Direct
