If I was doing the payment plan for the X and has to take it out in store. Is this something I would have to do the day the phone is released or could I go in prior to release, sort out the plan and then go in for pick up? How would this work out getting a phone on release day?

If you want to get it on release day, you have two options:

  1. Buy phone outright, then go in-store to change it to the iPP
  2. Use the iPP tool, complete in-store and get your phone then.

So the day the phone is available to pre-order, is there somewhere on the Apple website when it comes to paying where I would select iPP and then I could preorder the phone and go to my nearest store on launch and complete it in store on launch day?

This one's on there now for £8.49 instead of £10.99...

You have to reserve your phone.

Yeah that’s for the upgrade program not the iPhone payment plan which it states is only available in store. Only asking for help like no need to be funny about it.Just rang Apple and the girl I spoke to had never heard of the payment plan and insisted it was the upgrade program.

I wasn't trying to be funny, I was trying to help, sorry if it came across that way.

Have a look at the first post. It had the details of all the payment options.

Currently there is no way to specially reserve a phone for the iPhone payments plan. All the details on the Apple site say to go in store.

What is being suggested is if you reserve one under the IUP option and when you go to collect, as to change it to the iPhone payments plan.

There had been examples of people doing this last year BUT also examples of people being told they cannot change from IUP.

The only way to reserve would be when the store reservations go live when the phone is launched but clearly that means missing on launch day.

Another way could be buying it outright and collect from store and when you collect ask for it to be ‘refunded’ and take out the plan then. Again this is not something that is guaranteed to work

So I'm one of those, probably silly people, whose upgraded from a 7 to an 8. I always buy SIM free outright every year and I like having a new phone every year.

I'd love to have bought an X but I'd need a 256gb and I simply can't afford that! So small upgrade, and roll on 2018!

Ok, thanks for you’re help. Sorry if my questions seem a bit stupid, I’ve always had my phones delivered by carriers rather than getting outright from Apple.

Thanks for the link to the phone reservation page. Sorry if this is another stupid question but once that goes live on the release date of the phone, is it stupid to think I could go and reserve one for pick up the next day?

So by looking at a few other phones on o2's site I've worked out their 20GB plan (30GB if you're already a customer as you get another 10GB free) is £35 a month, regardless of phone manufacturer. So that leaves us with £42 a month for the iPhone X, with 1 free screen replacement and a free upgrade after 12 months, compared with £56.45 on the iUP.

Also, not applicable to everyone but there is also o2 Open, where employees from certain companies (l'm in the NHS) can get 25% off the airtime plan. That brings the airtime plan down to £26.25 and the monthly total to £68.25.

Maybe I've just become numb to Apple's pricing but that seems reasonable for such a high amount of data and a yearly upgrade? Also I'm assuming this is the 64GB model (which personally is all I need) so probably add another £10 a month for 256GB?

Well when you put it this way O2 are better value than the other providers. I think.

Are you talking about the X?

If so, slim chances I'd say.

Reservations open on the 27th October. Availability and delivery from the 3rd November. We expect capacity issues to persist through 2018

Don't sweat it. I've ended up doing the same thing except i'm going 7+ to 8+.

After taking it all in, I decided that my gut instinct was right. I'm not convinced enough to put down £1000 for an X. Even taking the price tag off, I don't think I would go for it as I just don't like the design. So my options were, stick with the 7+ or get the 8+. I've upgraded purely on the basis that I currently have a silver model and I don't like the white front plate. So my decision is based on wanting to go back to black and the knowledge that I like the current design and form (especially so with the glass casing) and i'm likely to keep it for at least a couple of years.

I'm an O2 customer at the moment, I don't think I've ever actually pre-ordered with them though looking back.
I probably will be doing for the X though.

Is never pre-ordered with them either. But have done for an iPhone 8 Plus. I know last year was a total disaster for o2 in terms of delivery / information on shipments etc.

The website says "order by midnight on 21/9 and get it from 22/9". Elsewhere, on the iPhone 8 for example they are saying "up to 3 weeks"

So fingers crossed that they actually are planning on delivering devices to customers from 22/9.
