Has anyone ordered from o2? They are showing deliveries "from September 21". I ordered on 15th (Max, SG, 256GB). My order remains "In Progress".

Ok, so last year I embarked on the journey that is Apple Upgrade Program. This year will be the first time that I give the phone back and start a new contract.

Couple of questions,

1. Do I need to take the accessories and box back with me?

2. I've read it's a £69 upfront cost, is that the only money I'll be parting with on Friday? (I have the X, will I need to pay the last month of my contract too?)

1) just the phone.

2) you have to make your 11th payment if not done so already and then the £69 to start your new IUP deal

£1462 not bad deal total cost you 24 months.

£999 sim free + EE largest DATA SIM ONLY 40GB £25 TWO years £600 + £999 = £1599
You save a nice bit and a nice 60gb extra data each month with that contract deal.
Yes its not bad ,I've been trying to shave a bit more off ,but they won't have it !!
Still not sure I'm going to take it thought currently have a sim free X and I,m on a rolling 20gb EE sim only deal ,not sure I want to be locked into a 2 year deal

Bit off topic, but what's people's opinions on anti-glare/matte screen protectors? I kinda like these because they hide fingerprints a lot better, but I guess the trade-off is that they aren't as protective as glass protectors?

What network you going to?

From o2 to sky mobile who use you guessed it o2's network.
O2 monthly device costs are looking expensive for some time though it works out much the same I think as they use 24mths contracts whereas sky use 30 mths.
I already have sony xa 2 via sky-android 8.
I know from forums wifi calling hasn't yet been activated for. I phones as yet possibly during 2019.

I use via i pad pro 10.5 -fantastic screen though that's to avoid finger smudges.
Didn't bother with i phone 8 -no idea if I'll use via xS in a few weeks

What you should do is find out what you owe on the old contract and work out if you can get more from envirofone or music magpie. If it's more than what you owe sell the phone and pay off the balance. Then just start again. I did this last year but sold to my brother who just basically paid off my Barclays agreement. Do what's best for you, not Apple.

Yeah I ordered on the 14th but started a new contract, where did you find the "in progress" status I can't seem to find it?

I don’t think upgrading after 11 months in IUP will let you switch to IP. They’d probably expect you to clear off the balance on your Barclays loan and start afresh. At this point you’d be better off giving your phone to someone like envirofone ( right now offering £590 compared to apples £550) plus crediting your remaining apple care n

Oh really? I thought as long as you hand the phone back in you are clear to do whatever? Like, handing the phone back will clear the rest of the balance?

You make a really decent point actually.

Cheers!

So the IUP term is over 20 months. That’s the loan you’ve taken with Barclays. What Apple do is allow you to ‘upgrade’ after 11 payments. Basically taking your phone to cover the remaining balance of the loan (which also includes remaining Apple care) Inder the proviso you’re taking out a new IUP agreement.

Theres nothing stopping you selling the phone at any time and paying off your Barclays loan and claiming AppleCare refund. Nearly all cases doing it this way will leave you better off. After 11 payments my balance with Barclays is £575.55. I know envirofone will give me £635 for it AND I’d also get half my AppleCare back too.

So in terms of money in your pocket, IUP doesn’t give you the best value. It just a less hassle, and you’re not left without a phone if you had to sell yours. If you can live without a phone or have a spare for a few days, you could sign a new IUP for the Xs (if that doesn’t cause issues for credit checks etc) and separately sell of and settle your existing IUP

I ordered from O2 yesterday with the delivery date saying the same thing. Order is also in progress, keeping my fingers crossed for a Friday delivery but won’t be surprised if I missed the initial batch of launch day stock.

Where are you finding the "in progress" status? Cant seem to find it anywhere, wondering if it has something to do with me starting a new contract? I ordered the xs max on the 14th from o2.

Are you going with envirofone then? The music magpie is a little more. (£650)

Interesting thanks for the info. Just tried to chat with Apple with 3 different advisors and none of them knew if what I am asking is possible or not.

So essentially I cannot leave the upgrade programme unless I pay the 20 months balance off. That’s annoying and affects my plan!!

Have a read of the t&cs page on apple’s site and the faqs on the IUP pages. Explains quite a lot there
