The other things that really pisses me off is I can never order a new iPhone for launch day delivery. I’m always there, a minute before 8 hitting refresh like a mad man and still get 4 to 5 weeks to wait!
I’ve always managed release day. Twice I’ve had no luck using the Apple site on Chrome so tried Internet Explorer on a whim and breezed through.

For the iPhone 7 launch I was after the Plus for instore pickup. No stock when I got in at 8:05, but checked back periodically. Twice I saw stock of what I wanted but wasn’t quick enough, then third time lucky got a reservation for launch day.

I did this last year for the X: my 7 Plus was only about halfway through the first year so I had to make a £200+ payment to settle. It did let me reserve for pick up in store as normal and then I just went into the store and made the payment on pick up day.

Ah so even though you hadn’t completed the 11th payment you were still able to pre order the X and settle up when collected?

Don't they say that it's best to use the Apple app on iPhone?

I've always had success using the app. I made the attached preparedness guide last year so I knew exactly what menus/options would appear and I could breeze through without reading anything. Will need to review it in case anything has changed. You can add the product to your favourites for quick selection.

Yes - though I'm sure there used to be a button on the iUp status checker page that took you straight to the reservations screen, which has now disappeared!

Yup that’s what I remember too. I’m hoping it’s not something that only appears when you’ve made the 11th payment

I think that button is only available during pre-order and the initial demand surge. I assume to prevent upgrade plan users being stuck in a position of having to wait for stock to be available at their chosen store.

I’m planning on going for the iPhone Xs Max but man are trade in prices bad for the iPhone 8 Plus :/ Most I’ve found is £450 from Mazuma Mobile. Tried listing it on FB Marketplace for £570 but no takers so far... don’t really want to take the Mazuma offer as I find it to be meh and I’d ideally only want to spend up to £450 of my own money to upgrade to the Xs Max.

Anyone found any better trade in prices?

Trade in prices are poor for the X too, struggling to hit £650 for the 256GB. That’s a 45% depreciation in 10 months.

Trade in prices seems to be tight this year. Does make the IUP more appealing with the hopeful ease of upgrading
Yes, I increasingly think it’s the way to go. I may just end up keeping my X for another year. Dont want to go the eBay or “tyre kicker” private sale route and there’s always a bit of a risk with trade in (posting, will they claim it”s not in the required condition, etc).

I bought the X outright and got an EE Max Sim Only Plan - £22/month for 22GB + roaming in EU/USA/CAD/AUS etc, and no throttling.

I need more data, but EE no longer offer their 'Max Plan' as a sim only. I can 'upgrade' to 40GB for £25/m, but it's not a max plan, therefore speeds at throttled to 40GB, plus no roaming in US/Canada/Aus etc.

The only way to now get a unthrottled plan with US/Cad/Aus roaming with EE is to get a phone on a 24 month plan. I'm debating what to do. I hate having massive payments each month for phones, and can afford to buy the XS outright, but also want unthrottled EE data (I get 90Mbps download in my area) as well as roaming in US.

I guess trading my X 256GB in for £600 will 'lessen' the £80/m EE pricing for 60GB on the XS.

I will buy the Xs outright and stick with my 10€/month plan : 50GB within Europe + unlimited calls/texts

Which country/network are you able to get 50GB for 10 euros? That's crazy cheap.

Is the data throttled in any way?

I wish Spanish networks would offer something like this, paying €22 for 4GB, 100 minutes and 0 texts is ridiculous these days. This is SIM only, in case you wondered.

The deals in the UK seem quite good in comparison.

I travel to Spain quite a lot. I pay £22 (25 EUR) for 22GB, which I can use in Spain.

In France (sorry this UK thread was as close as I could get !) we have great deals. My wife has 20GB within Europe + unlimited calls/texts for 5€/month.

For 10€/month I get 50GB within Europe + unlimited calls/texts (Europe). The data only gets throttled beyond the 50GB cap.

The usual price for these plans are 20€/month (my wife's) and 25€/month for mine. The carriers often (every 3 months) offer these plans for a cheaper rate. Since there is no contract we are free to change carrier as often as we wish moving from one great deal to another.

The current plans we have are with Orange which is great in terms of coverage.

I managed to get unlimited calls and texts and 40GB of data on EE for £20 a month. :)
Nice one glad we have so much competition here in the uk.
lets hope the 5g launch next two or three years don't bring back expensive prices.
I feel bad for people in Australia and Canada they have the most expensive cell phone plans going.

Very dirty trick from EE SIM ONLY no max plan speed capped.
Take out a expensive phone contract with us will uncapped your speed to the max.
OFCOM needs to take a major look into this.
Three uk got told off by ofcom for capping EU roaming to 3g only now 4g roaming is back on for roaming +unlimited hotspot comes back at Christmas this year.
