So peeps, especially those with both devices in their house...

...what does one loose by downsizing the XS?

Screen size & battery size, obviously. But camera and RAM are the same. I'm quite interested in the speakers - perhaps they'd be smaller, but any worse in terms of quality? The XS Max speakers really impressed me when watching YouTube etc

Anything else?

Really hard between these two sizes!

I would choose the XS, it's smaller, lighter and more usable at the end of the day.

PS: I don't actually have the XS Max, but considering it weighs the same as the Plus iPhones, I would go for the XS

I went running with my max yesterday and it was totally fine. No drama at all and it was nice not to have to try and unlock it with sweaty fingers.

However I do tend to browse fb, reddit etc in bed on a Sunday morning and I've of my hands got a bit sore and I ended up having to lay the phone down, no big deal but I just couldn't get comfy. Making me question getting the max and thinking about looking at the standard size. Trouble is my nearest apple store is over an hour away and I've ordered lots of cases already! Lol

Okay, okay. So despite me saying on a couple of threads on here that I would wait for the XR because it has the same guts but with an LCD, it did dawn on me once I really thought about it if I would want a phone for the next couple of years with an LCD.

I'll be moving from an S8 which I hate, but admittedly it's likely to feel like a bit (or a lot) of a downgrade whenever I look at the screen with an XR, despite being happy to have a phone with iOS again.

I still think the XR will be a brilliant phone, but thinking about the long run I don't want to risk getting fed up with it's display a few months down the line. My girlfriend has the X, and it looks stunning.

To cut a long, sheepish story short, I bit the bullet and ordered a gift card for Currys/PC World which I get for 6.5% off through my employer, bringing the 256GB XS down to £1074.

I'm more or less decided on Space Grey, but the more I look at the gold, the more it grows on me!

On a side note, is anyone using the Otterbox Statement Series case? I would be keen to hear your thoughts.

How’s it a downgrade apart from the screen? Eye strain is enough of a reason to get rid anyway

It’s not a huge downgrade from the X - but you could have got an XS Max - which is the same size as the plus with a bigger screen than the plus and a much better camera. The XS camera is obviously superior to the X/8 Plus based on my own photos and the reviews.

And again if you want a bigger screen in the same size as the body then XS Max is the place to go.

Last year I found the battery life on my iPhone X to be worse than my iphone 7 plus. It’s the main I upgraded to the max this year.

The 7 Plus SHOULD indeed have a better battery than the X as it’s a bigger phone and has a bigger battery.

You should keep an eye on that. Mines on 97% since this morning. I do have the max though.

It stands to reason that the XS Max will have a better battery though cos it’s a bigger phone.

I know I made the correct decision in downsizing from my 8 Plus to the XS.

The XS has a larger screen than the 8 Plus (when measured diagonally from corner to corner) and using the smaller sized phone is a joy to use and is so much more pocketable than the huge 8 Plus / XS Max. One handed use also is just great as opposed to two handed use on the 8 Plus.

;)

I’ve just came back from the Apple Store after replacing my iPhone XS Max because of its pink screen hue issue and this one is much better! It still has a bit of a yellow tint but there’s almost no colour shift so I’m happy with it! :)
Was painless overall and they had replacement stock set aside, but an odd thing was that I had to re-do the iUP process completely.
I also got a chance to check out the iPhone XS size and I can’t believe I was used to how small that thing is. The Max is so much better IMO!

I find that incredible as when I got a replacement last year they simply updated the new Serial Number to my current iUP plan. Imagine you had failed the credit check today... I would not have let them process it through again due to a faulty item, just seems wrong!

I asked exactly that when then replaced my damaged max, they said it’s marked as an exchange when they put it through so Barclays ‘swap it over’.. what ever that means! I’ll check my credit file and see what it actually did in a few days

Personally, I recommend the Xs Max for the extra real estate alone. It’s virtually an identical footprint to the 8+ but with a much larger area of screen.

If you’re coming from the X or one of its smaller predecessors it might seem big at first but you will adapt in no time at all.

Does anyone know if Apple get new stock of watches that you can reserve to pick up like they do with iPhones?

Yes but you missed the point about eye strain due to PWM. The new models have the same issue as last years X. If this doesn’t affect you then yes the XS Max is obviously the better phone.

Coming from an 8 Plus, I'm really enjoying the smaller form factor again. For what I use my phone for the size is perfect, for everything else the iPad Pro 12.9 and Surface Book 2 cover my needs.

I think after a few years, I'm finally done with the jumbo phone :)

This is why I decided after the 6S Plus, I'll never get a plus size phone until I know that I can deal with that again. The X is a perfect size for both using in bed and outside.

Selling my iPhone X.

Just upgraded my sim only plan with EE to iPhone 8 Plus 256gb red 60GB max plan, £30 upfront £49.40 a month. Not too bad, works out at £15.2 for the sim
I upgraded with EE to the 256gb Max 100GB Max £70.40 a month. Works out about £17 for the 100gb max plan and no upfront.

It's the evening now, and the X is starting to look and feel small... perhaps my mind is getting used to the Max.

...until my hand starts to hurt from using its that is!

Anyone have suggestions for adding grip? I find the silicone case, once a few weeks have passed, becomes very grippy, almost sticky. However it's pretty bulky. Is there a dbrand skin or something that adds super levels of grip? Or is the back glass the next best thing?

Pickup is an option on the Apple website so I assume this can be done. I tried to get a Stainless Steel one yesterday but they only had those sport bands in stock and I want the Milanese loop. Fingers crossed new stock arrives tomorrow...

I assume it’ll arrive on Tuesday, if it doesn’t, I’ll return it when I get it. I think I could pull a year more from my current X and series 3 Watch

I’m stuck between the two of them as well!
