Yes, iPhone Payments is still available. 20 month interest free loan with a £69 upfront payment and no AppleCare requirements. No upgrade option after 11 payments, though you can pay off the balance at any time to close the account and the phone is 100% yours. Making additional payments will only reduce the term and not the on-going monthly amounts.

The same is largely true for the Upgrade Programme, except you get the upgrade option after 11 payments and you must take out AppleCare (also spread out over the total term). If you cancel AppleCare before upgrading or the total term, you basically get bumped to iPhone Payments and also lose your ability to upgrade early.

Many on here have found you're better off selling the phone and using the funds to pay off the balance to close the account, getting some money back on top rather than simply handing the phone back to Apple at upgrade time. Depends on how much faffing you're happy to put up with.

Thanks for the reply. For the payments plan, do you know how that is set up? I'm probably being stupid but I can see the option online to buy outright or with iUP but not the payments plan. Can I just reserve one to buy in store then mention I want the payments plan when I pick it up?

Personally I'm not convinced apple care is worth it hence the payments plan is of interest to me

appreciate some help on the options for buying from apple with instalments

- do they still do the payments plan, i.e. the one where apple care isn't tied in? I can't find it on the website as none of the financing options mentioned are interest free
- for the iphone upgrade program is it possible to pay a larger deposit? Or pay a lump sum at any time to reduce the monthly payments and/or shorten the term? I would sell my note 8 so will have £350 which I would want to add towards the new iphone but not sure if this is possible on iUP?

You cannot do a bigger deposit on the iUP. I specifically wanted that and was told it can't be done. I'm guessing you could call them afterwards to make a payments towards it but i dont think they would adjust your monthly payments.

No probs.

That's exactly how you do it. Reserve for in-store and just say you want to join the iPhone Payments plan. You'll need some photo ID and they'll ask you the usual questions like previous addresses, income, employer's details etc.

Just be wary that Barclays Partner Finance has been known to be picky about acceptance. Some people with very good credit histories have been declined and others not.

See first post for the links.

Deposit it fixed at £69. You can pay additional amounts to Barclays directly but it doesn’t reduce you’re monthly direct debit, just reduces the time to pay it off

That’s useful, didn’t know you could pay ofr AppleCare early. I had some difficulty convincing myself it’s going to be worth the money.

Not surprised by the number of people not being able to justify the extra cost from the X to the XS, but honestly its nothing new. It's the normal spec boost we get every year, but with a new screen size added to the mix this year.

On a personal note, at the rate we are going with Apple's UK prices, i can see the XS Max lasting me 3 years lol.

On a side note, but is it just me that finds that this thread keeps my sanity levels intact during launch period!?

Seriously, it’s a real good thread, so thanks @Jinjin for setting it up and maintaining it each year and thanks to everyone else for all the friendly chit chat, it’s a welcome relief! :D

Good to have some like minded to discuss this all with. My missus would entertain my iPhone chat for about 5 minutes!

Uggh I’ve got UKMail for delivery tomorrow. I wanted DPD.
They did a good job with mine. Part of DHL now, so maybe things have improved.
They gave me a 1 hour window and stuck to it.

Took back my black Apple folio case and exchanged it for Forrest Green. Lovely.
I so nearly went with the forest green leather case. But played it safe and went black.

Couple of question for those who know:

1. Does Preparing For Dispatch mean they've assigned a device to my order or that they're in the process of doing that?

2. How long does Preparing For Dispatch usually take?

Mine went to PfD yesterday and was dispatched today.

Just received £555 from Music Magpie for my 64GB X, happy with that. (Used code tech10)
Makes the price of the Max slightly more palatable!

I’m actually now thinking the iPhone payments is better in the long term as after 12 months you would only be left with a balance of £412 (64gb max). I bet you could easily sell it for 700+ as long as you take care of it after 12 months. Am I missing something here?

And if you dropped it accidentally and it needed replacing?

IMO, the cost of AC+ outweighs the risk.

Not to jinx anything but I’ve had iPhones since 2008 and never once had to have it repaired for accidental damage.

Touching plenty of wood right now though.
