How worried should I be about my chances of getting a model for launch day pickup if I'm reserving through the app?

Gotta love iPhone payments. Find it cheeky how its hidden on the website unless you know about it, under financing section you only get the offer of the standard 14.9% APR option.

The last two years (iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus) my process has been this and worked perfectly.

Morning of launch, lock in Trade-In value at mizuma mobile - this year was about £120 more than what was left on balance of the phone with Barclays iPhone Payments plan. Friday morning reserve phone for pickup next Friday. Walk into store, start new iPhone Payments plan, pay the £69. Swap sim over, send old phone in to mizuma, get the cash, phone Barclays and pay off old plan. £50 in my pocket and a new phone...

I think the gap is narrowing tbh. Both will have the same sapphire/ceramic back now and the same storage. The real difference will come down to durability (of both the screen and case). Some say the screen on the aluminium is brighter and less prone to glare, but unless you’re comparing side by side you’re probably not going to notice
Thanks for that. Durability is something that I’m very keen on. Does that mean that the screen on the stainless steel model is harder and less prone to scratching, and the case less prone to dents and scratches?

@Jinjin Any thoughts on this?

Ok, some questions before pre-orders go live tomorrow:

1. If we do indeed ore-order tomorrow morning, are we guaranteed a new iPhone whether we pick an early delivery slot (i.e. a 09:00 time slot) or a later lunch time slot (i.e. a 13:00 time slot)? Not sure whether it's still worth getting to the store early if I have pre-ordered already?

Stainless steel screen significantly less prone to scratches. If you opt for SS in silver you can buff any scratches out and black SS has a special coating making it even hardier against scratches

Damn! I might pre order for delivery and try and pick one up in store as well, not sure UPS will deliver to a neighbour!
I guess I could wait an extra day for a redelivery attempt, but where's the fun in that! Also, I'll be here seeing all you guys with your new shiny toys! :(

I stand to be corrected, but I don't even think stores had stock of the new watches from day one.

Yeah I wanted the series 4 but not ECG and I think it will be a long time if it ever comes over here. I have a cellular series 3 and I’m on o2 so haven’t even used the cellular on my series 3 yet. So I might as well stick with my series 3.

I have the iPhone X and I’m on the yearly upgrade programme but not eligible to upgrade until the beginning of December. However I’m already paying £84 for the iPhone X and if I were to
Upgrade to the XS max that would be even more.

Be interesting what EE prices will be I must admit

The 512GB note 9 is £83 a month still less than my X now and the 128GB model is £73

I’m in the ecosystem though and I love my Apple Watch. A bigger screen is worth the upgrade for me but damn these prices

2. I was gonna purchase an Apple Leather iPhone X case to use with my iPhone XS but it seems all iPhone X accessories have been removed from the website?! Would an iPhone X case fit the XS (I'm assuming the 2 phones are the same spec, size wise)?

3, Watch related - why is the Space Black Stainless Steel watch ONLY available with GPS AND Cellular??! I was hoping to pick one up with just GPS but it seems Apple does not have a model like this?!

On a plus point - it's good to see the Nike watches at the same price (£399) as the standard watch (perhaps they have always been I just never noticed!!).

For me, I will definitely be going with the 64Gb iPhone XS but not sure whether to choose Space Grey again (all my devices have been space grey = boring!!) or the Silver (which may actually not look too great with all colour cases!).

As far as the watch is concerned, for me, it's not an essential Day 1 purchase so will probably pick one up, to replace my Series 0, between now and Xmas.

my 2 pence

1) no guarantee on stock, they caveat everything with 'subject to availability'. but if you manage to reserve one then you will get it regardless of time you pick it up.

2) as others have said, X cases will work fine. you 'might' find X cases still in Apple stores?

3) stainless steel series 3 was the same, only GPS and cellular

reading cases, the face of the phones are all black regardless of band and rear colour. so in my apple silicon case I only see the bottom silver edge. Otherwise you'd never know what colour phone I had!

That’s the problem. The note 9 is great value for many and has lots of features but it won’t work for me because of the ecosystem. I suppose I will have 2 months to moan about it before I give in and get it.

I didn’t get to watch it all as my kids were getting cranky right around the time the iPhone was announced. So I’m going to watch it again today and see if there is anything worth upgrading for apart from the screen size. I already have a 256GB X so can’t even use the storage as an excuse to upgrade because although I would get the 512GB I’m good with 256GB and have about 100GB to spare. If there were more compelling features then I could over look the price but at the moment I haven’t seen any. I’ll probably still get the max anyway as a Christmas present to myself lol as much as I’m moaning now.

The only thing i like were the camera improvements.. I do take a lot of photos so the changes are welcome. All the guff they touted about the A12 bionic, machine learning and neural networks wont make any real difference for the average user.. if face id is slightly quicker i'll take that too.

That’s around the time when I had to stop watching, just after they demoed the AR game. I use my iPhone as my main camera so if there are worthwhile camera improvements then it would be worth it.

I wonder if the improvement will be noticeable though. I suspect it’s pretty minor hence the reason they didn’t tout it as generation 2.

For what it’s worth I, personally, am not a great fan of Face ID. Fails so many times, it’s a bore.

I’m dubious about ordering on the Apple upgrade programme. I just feel it’ll take longer to order (more steps to complete the order) rather than ordering to buy outright.

Someone said (somewhere) that they bought outright, took it back to Apple. Got a refund then bought it back on the upgrade programme? Anyone know anything about this?

pretty good for me most the times but there is a noticeable (to me at least) pause between the screen coming on and the phone unlocking. if that improves that I'll be happy.

I'm hoping there's a gen2 face ID next year which improves the angle that it works at, i.e. flat on desk at work

You just reserve he device at your choice of store and time. There’s not many steps to it. Did it last year (albeit upgrading from 7 to 8+, not an X) and it was simple.

You can't be so sure. Is it written in black and white? Could be some agent who doesn't know what he's/she's talking about.

It says clearly on the Apple website, the dual-sim slot is only available in China, Hong Kong and Macau markets.

So until this confirmed by Three, in an article or in the XS product page by them, don't believe it and EE are the only supported carrier with dual-SIM.

They are currently running a live stream and they have confirmed it 3 or 4 times and have been checking with off camera staff and still confirming dual slots,
