...yea it is but I guess I meant it as in why do we have to pay this to start the iUP in the first place!!! The iUP should be free!
Just a different way of spreading the cost. Assume they want sufficient up front funds to cover any failed payments/allow a chase process etc. Don't think you're actually paying any more.

Take iPhone 8 for example (£699) plus Apple Care + (£129) amounts to £828 over 24 months. Take off the £69 = £759 which is the monthly payment of £37.95 over 20 months

How much do you pay on the IUP I’m looking to use it for the first time on a Xs plus depending on price.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to spread the cost so any suggestions would be appreciated

If you can upgrade after 11 months but are tied into a 20 month contract, what happens to the remaining debt after you upgrade so you have to pay both? - apologies for my ignorance haha

More information on the program along with full t&cs here

Essentially you surrender the phone when you upgrade and enter a new 20 month agreement subject to full credit check and upfront payment.

This is the first upgrade opportunity for the iUP here in the UK. Imagine it'll work much like it did in the US last year. Anyone who has made their 11 payments will have an opportunity to declare their upgrade intention several days before preorders start so that credit checks can be carried out ahead of time, ensuring they're not disadvantaged when it comes to preorder checkouts

Edit: I appear to have been talking nonsense about it being the UK's first upgrade cycle

Pretty sure it’s the second year for IUP upgrades in the U.K. iirc there was some early access to then members to select a device depending on stock levels. Would need to look through last years monster thread again to check

Wasn't it available for 7 & 7+ buyers 2 years ago?

I had it in my mind that it was, because they had a nice smooth upgrade process offered to them to the 8/X (I may well have dreamt that up).

It was also the main reason I went for an 8 last year instead of an X, in the hope that the move to this year's X would be nice and smooth.

My bad, looks like you're right. Not sure why I thought it debuted last year. Never used it myself tbh so seemingly a little out of the loop

Ok, at least I didn't dream it up.

I do recall seeing screenshots from those 7 owners already on it, asking them if they wanted to move straight to an X and it seemed they had a nice simple transition, without all of the queuing, availability dramas that everyone else had.

think I had the same dream! can't find any evidence of it though in last years thread. Clearly we're different to the US in that we didn't have option for pre-approval online so needed to be in store but as you say, I'm sure people who had IUP with the 7 had some ability to select ahead of everyone else.

£43.95 a month for the 8 Plus, to be exact.
[doublepost=1535541236][/doublepost]...so regarding Applecare - I already have this on the 8 Plus. When I upgrade to a new phone this year, do I then start up a new Applecare agreement on the new phone?

If so, I've never understood why you would have to start a new agreement for every new Apple product you buy - surely Applecare should cover all your Apple products, no?!

apple care tied to a product not a general insurance for all.

do you have your 8+ on IUP? if so your monthly cost includes the cost of apple care. If you sign a new IUP agreement you will also have apple care included in that cost too.

if you have a 8+ outside of IUP and you bought apple care separately, you can get a refund for any remaining months if sell the phone it is tied too.
[doublepost=1535542143][/doublepost]talking of IUP, has anyone who's on it with an X thought about selling the phone separately and then paying off the finance yourself?

after 11 payments the remaining balance on the finance will be (for an X 256GB) £575.55. looking today, music magpie offer £680 for this model so doing this today, I'd be ~£105 better off!

clearly the value of the X will drop in the next month (and I've only made 9 payments so far) so those number would change a little but none who was happy to go without an X for 3 weeks or so could save a few quid!

so it does look like it was a dream. The only thing I can find from last year is this

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ispatch-thread.2065306/page-206#post-25260840

looks like people were told to check eligibility (which all IUP members can do now) and then join the queue when the phone went on sale!

I do also recall that once the phone went on general sale, the IUP folk were able to see store stock which wasn't available for reservation by the general public. This meant that they had first dibs on in store stock

Ouch that 256GB is pricey and that doesn't include the price of your SIM.

Hopefully prices are indeed cheaper since Apple doesn't look like they're being back the 128GB

As someone considering iUP for the first time.. surely it puts us at a disadvantage as having to go into a store in person as apposed to doing it online as that’s going to take a lot longer to order with queues etc which means they could all be sold out?

I’m hoping for a 128GB X/X+.
This otherwise I'm kinda forced into a 256GB.

Iirc you "reserve" one online then go into store

I remember last year - I reserved an 8 Plus via the Apple Store app, on the morning when pre-orders went live (was commuting to work at the time) and selected the iUP.

When I went to collect on release day at my local branch (Bromley store, which had NO queues at all - I was in and out within 30 minutes!), they asked me if I wanted to buy the 8 Plus using the iUP or via the Barclays Finance option (which I think has recently been discontinued now), so it seems that whatever payment method you select, isn't necessary set in stone via the app.

My partner is on the plan. Upgrade was done via the app but was only available once pre-orders went live by selecting model and store. I’m pretty sure it was separate from the normal availability so that plan users were pretty much guaranteed the device without having to continually check back for stock. Makes sense really - since upgrade plan users have to upgrade in store in the UK, they’d be at a disadvtange if made to follow the usual instore pickup reservation route as it just shuts off when a particular store is out of stock.

Via the Apple store app do you mean? Is there an option that came up last year for those already on the programme?

Through the eligibility checker in the Apple Store app. I just got him to check now - at the moment it just comes up with a message saying he’s eligible to upgrade and to go to an Apple Store. At pre-order time last year there was an option to select a model and reserve it.
