Hi all,

Tempted by the XS Max to replace my 8 Plus. All that held me off the X last year was the screen size...

Been very busy with work so am rather OOTL with the state of ordering this year. Ideally, I’d like to sell my fully-owned 8 Plus and join the upgrade program with Apple. I see that they aren’t taking reservations anymore, so am I SOL for getting one soonish?

Cheers

Now what are the odds on Apple letting me return my month old S3 Milanese loop to swap for the S4....

:(
I doubt it as its way outside the exchange window and watches have slipped to October so if your watch is three months old it will be over 4 months old by the time you exchange it. They would let you trade it in and give you a gift voucher but that will only be for current market value

Good luck with that, judging by how they've wiped all mention of it from the website I'd say it's dead in the water.
We might hear something next month when they announce the iPads and MacBooks. If we dont hear then, then yeah i wold say not until next year. Very embarrassing for Apple

Yeah, I can't recall another product they've announced that failed to appear like this. They've had stuff delayed before, but never just completely abandoned. I'd love to hear the story of what's happened to it.

Wondering the same thing myself. Always set up from new so far (had a bad experience years ago with photos duplicating etc. when restored from backup that put me off) but not sure I can be bothered this time. It seems pretty reliable now from what you read. Either way I'd update your old phone to iOS 12 / watch to WatchOS 5 first though, probably best to restore from a backup from the same OS version as the new devices have?

Good point! I was gonna not bother updating my 8 Plus to iOS 12 seeing that I have to hand it back in next Friday when I upgrade to the iPhone XS, but I guess what you're saying makes sense.
;)

I would suggest that if you haven't ordered then to do the overnight queue thing as stocks will run out quickly and there are always queues of people that haven't ordered outside every store. Even the Bath store that is small can have queues of over 100 people and only a few get what they want.

...not true!

I went to the Bromley Store (South East London) last year on iPhone 8 Plus/Series 3 Apple Watch launch day just after the store opened and there was not a single person in a queue (the store was inside a busy shopping centre). I walked into the store and there were literally less than 10 customers inside.

It's just pot luck really.

I cant comment on the iPhone 8 but last year there was a long queue for the iPhone X

The reservations usually start up the day following release, so Saturday 22nd. Updates happen from 6am

Last year I was looking daily as I missed the launch stock and got the 1-2 weeks for my X.

I think you can get to that same page via the Apple store app and the join now option for IUP.

Great, thanks for the reply. Got an Apple store very near my office so will give that a go that morning. Any idea how long the in-store process usually takes?
Thanks

I might be wrong, but I think once all carriers get on board esim, then it should actually be good for costumers and drive prices down, as changing carriers will become that much easier...
Just my 0.02
If ALL carriers (and sub carriers eg Tesco, Asda, GiffGaff in UK) throughout the world are onboard then fine, however, I can’t see this happening within the next 10 years, if ever. This should all be in place BEFORE marketing a device that relies on these agreements. In the meantime it’s back to when you had to use an iPhone on O2, except this time it’s EE in UK, and it leaves many other countries with one or even zero options. Selling these phones as true dual Sim phones can be very misleading. We don’t even know if PAYG eSIMs will be allowed, nobody seems to know anything for certain. All of this should have been signed and agreed upon months ago, well before release of hardware that relies upon it to function optimally. To then blatantly say that 2 countries get proper dual Sim phones, and for the same price, it makes me feel that the most of the world has been placed under unfair restrictions. The dual Sim is the ONE AND ONLY reason I’m upgrading, so getting this working properly is very important to me.

Quick follow up question- is there any point trying an Apple store on launch day to sign up for the iUP, without a reservation?

I guess there’s always ‘some’ walk in stock? Could try your luck.

I see the IUP reservation page has updated with the same info now too

We’re not taking reservations to buy iPhone right now.
You can visit an Apple Store beginning at 08:00 on Friday, 21 September 2018, or shop online now and select another purchase option. Reservations will reopen at 06:00 on 22 September.

I’ll try my luck on the off-chance then. If not, I’m happy to try to secure a reservation the following morning. I don’t mind waiting a little while.

Sorry if I missed this earlier in the thread but I'm wondering what the deal is with stock nationally. Three seems to have stock of all options in the Max for delivery on the 21st. Does that sound legit? It's 3.30pm on launch day as I type this, and Apple's own options had slipped by the time I could get in at 8.11am.

Not sure what to think..

Also Three's plan prices look pretty decent in comparison to O2 and EE. Any catch?

Reserved a XS Max 256GB Space Grey. IUP upgrade from an 8 Plus 256 GB.

Due in store 29th September but I won't be able to pick it up until the 2nd October at the earliest due to a holiday.

For those of you that have upgraded with EE - what does it state when you check the upgrade eligibility in my EE?

I have a confirmation e-mail, the £80 is appearing as a bill credit, and when I track my order using the ‘Track My Order’, it states ‘Your Pre-Order is confirmed’.

But both the my EE app and website keep stating I am ready for upgrade, and appears to let me complete a new order?

Exactly the same as me, I arrive back on 30th, so will pick up dog then new phone.

I pre-ordered the Xs in Silver with 256gb early this morning and it arrives next Friday. Relatively pain free process.

All the SG ones won't deliver until 24 now and this appears to happening to the silver too. Get in quick I reckon!

They might bring the price down but offer less like data limit and allowance data is a money spin for all networks these days.
Who on earth make phone calls or text anymore all done with whatapp and others.
