to avoid confusuon with the Russian criminals?

from BBC

Mr Hypponen said that PROXIEZ "have been known to be involved in various nasty businesses".

"We've noticed them in connection with Zeus, a toolkit written and sold by a Russian software engineer, which enables people to do keylogging to grab PayPal, eBay and online banking passwords," he said.

According to Mr Hypponen, the Zeus software itself is not illegal, but can be used for malicious purposes.

He said that PROXIEZ has been used as a host for the keylogging software, as well as a means of collecting "and maintaining keylogged information" through what are known as botnets.

Do you REALLY have nothing better to worry about?

Should everyone named "Bundy" or "Menendez" or "Osama" change their name to avoid being confused with a murderer?

Take up a hobby. Gardening is nice.

Hi Me again

I took my mac pro to a local store and they flashed the card with some ROM they found on another forum but the 4870 was still working a little weird. I was wondering can you flash the card in terminal or something? Does anyone know how to do that? Anyway I was also wondering if anyone could upload or send me the link to Apple's ROM not something for windows. Thanks

Just when we thought everything was lost...

Hi again,

If you all are sick and tired with med by now, I totally understand. But when I thought I lost all hope about getting a original ROM to my XFX, I came up with the idea to contact XFX, as an last resort.

And what do you know... They were more than helpful, and did not only dig out the propper rom for me. They allso wished me best of luck and where not only very plite, the worked swiftly and their support really impressed me.

So now I got a good original ROM to use, at least. =)

My humble question now would be if any one could help me with the making of an EFI-rom to the card? Would be soo greatful for any help I could get. =)

Displayport issur after QE/CI patch installation

Hi Cindori and others! :),

First af all, thank you very much for everything you did for the community.
However, I don't manage to make my video card working properly in my hackintosh using its displayport connector. I'm a newbee in the hackintosh world, so that's why I'm turning to you for help even if I know that most of you have macpros!

I have a SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC. the link is below:
http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/p...101&pid=259

I also have a cinema display 24".
Thus I plugged it to my card with a mini displayport-displayport adapter cable bought here:
http://estore.circuitassembly.com/products...pter-Cable.html

I installed SL following the tonymacx86's tutorial since I have a gygabite motherboard with an i7 860. No problem during the installation. After intalling SL, I update to 10.6.3 than I used the multibeast install for my mobo. I rebooted. Everything work: network, sound etc.

Now is the key moment: how to have the native resolution of my ACD and the acceleration? As you know, I have to install the QE/CI exotic patch for 10.6.3. That's what I did. But at the next reboot (without any -x or -v option), after the loading my screen keeps black: no image anymore. If I unplugged my ACD and plug another monitor (a DELL 24" U2410) on the DVI port this time, the desktop appears to me, with proper resolution and acceleration working.

So, to resume, it seems that the exotic patch of Netkas gets the displayport connector of my video card unabled whereas in the meanwhile the DVI port still works.

Do you have any idea to help to fix this issue? any comments, advises for further testing?...

Thank you all in advance! :)

Upgradig video

Hey guys,

I'm looking for some advice on what card I should get and how I should/could power it. (I'm totally new to this)
Using a Mac Pro v1.1, 2.66Ghz Xeon, dual 7300GT, OS X 10.5.8

I'm from holland and therefore have these three options:
1 - Sapphire VAPOR-X HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E (link)
2 - Sapphire HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E QP (link)
3 - XFX HD-489X-ZSFC 1GB (link)

I'm only using 1 monitor, and have 1 DVD drive.
- What would be the best/easiest/safest card to flash and use?
- Do I need to buy anything to power the new card?

We are thinking along the same lines.

A couple days ago, I picked up a Gigabyte 4870 1 Gig....GV-R487D5-1GD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125256

I was excited because it has DisplayPort, and I was hoping it would work.

I crafted a ROM from the original, and it works GREAT in WIndows. However, in OSX...the only connector to work is the HDMI one.

As there are three connectors and only 2 display channels, in Windows you need to use CCC to choose which 2 will work if you have 3 displays plugged in. Since we have no corresponding software in OSX I think we are boned.

I was hoping that 10.6.2 would help, but alas no.

So.......I thought maybe it would work with Mac ROM on it. (original unadulterated 4870 ROM)...no go. I even tried placing the GDDR5 table from Gigabyte ROM into the Mac ROM...got a messy boot screen, and only on the HDMI port.

HDMI is Single Link only...so not very useful right now.

Good news is I was able to use Cindori's app to test much more quickly than if I had been flashing in DOS. Truly a useful tool.

Anyone need a single HDMI only 4870?

Hi Rominator,

Ever got the card working for other than HDMI? I was stupid enough to buy this model on e-bay but although after flashing it still works nice in windows, don't see anything on the DVI port (haven't got HDMI cable/monitor or Displayport, so can't check them, although I now ordered a displayport -> DVI adapter but reading your post I guess it won't help me). If you got it working, I'm very interested in your rom :)

Greetings,
Jaap (new Mac Pro 2006 user :).

Well then,

No success with my latest attempt to flash my card. I still get tearings. and I tried to flash the card on a PC aswell. No luck there either. So the card is probably screwed, and I need to get a new one. I suck donkey b*lls. =/

Thanks for the effort and good hint's anyways! =)

Cheers,
m0

Get an HDMI to DVI aapter and you will be able to run up to a 24" display.

I never got anywhere with card. Using original ROM didn't do it...so unlikely that it will ever get better.

If all you were going to do was run a single DVI, you are fine. Otherwise, sell it and buy one that works well.

Wow...there is an actual "last page"...

I kept reading...and reading...I'd hoped there was a last page, but I was starting to doubt. It's like I was watching Lost for six years and they suddenly had a last episode. Oh wait...

Hey guys. First off, a great TON of work you guys have done (namely Cindori, Rominator and Netkas--and anyone else that I can't remember). As soon as I get my stuff together you're getting a donation. :)

I want to flash a video card for my Mac Pro (3,1 2.8 Octo), I really do, but I want to make sure I get the right card.

Here in the US there only seems to be one version of the 4890 that you can still buy, but it's the evil ZSFC that seems to be un-hackable (according to what I read here).

So that brings me to my quandry...do I buy the new 4870 in the box with all of the goodies, or do I buy something off of eBay and take my chances?

Any card buying advise for a lowly, humble noob? :)

Check out Amazon. I saw at least five different 4890s available there.
Perhaps, but I wanted to stay as close to the authorized selection as possible. Besides, I thought I read about 300 pages back that the 4870 would be a more reliable and flexible choice over the 4890, true?

No such thing as an authorized list, mate. ;) The 4870's only advantage is that you don't have to install QE/CI patches every update. That's it.

The only unflashable card reported is the Asus EAH 4890 with double red fans.
The ZSFC work fine and there are alot of roms out here for the different revs of the zsfc. Note tho that they give power cable popup at boot.

Hey dude, fellow Singaporean here. I bought the XFX HD4890 (Model no: XFX 4890 HD-489X-ZSFC Rev 1.6) and flashed it for my Mac Pro Nehalem. With the Flasher tool provided here, it works fine. The ROM is located here.

I don't remember how much I paid but I think it was around S$200+. I don't know if SLS still keep stock of them.

Power cables wise, I got them fromhere. Takes about 10 days to arrive. Its not available locally. So I saved you a lot of footwork already. :p

Everything is easy to set up if you follow the instructions. Works like a charm.

The only downside to the XFX card is the heat. Unless you are in a fully air-conditioned room, it can get quite balmy during the day. Games wise, I only tested on COD4 Modern Warfare 2 for Mac. Not bad but cannot compare it to the PC version.

Video production wise: Its faster than the current pathetic stock card.

Hope that helps. Cheers!

XFX rule!

Kudos to XFX,

I have been in contact with XFX-support for a few days. Trying to work out how to get my card up and running again. No use, the card is confirmed to be toast. How ever...

XFX is now officially my latest love, they have been nothing but helpful and always very polite and fast with replies. And now, that my card is concluded to be toast - they offered me a big discount on a replacement card! XFX rule!

Anyways, in order to make sure not to make any misstakes over again. I just wanted to check if the modells offered is Mac-friendly.

So if any one could be nice enough to help me out with the double-check just to make sure I don't order bad card in this case, I would apreciate it.

XFX page:
XFX-Cards

The 4890-models offered to me are: ZHFC and ZSFR

There is allso a 5890 and a 5870 offered, but they do not yet work with OSX do they? I'll do good with 4890 anyways...

Any one knows?

Cheers,
m0

HIS H489F1GP - black Screen with OS X and WindowsXP (Boot Camp)

Hi,

after a lot of reading through this thread I bought a used HIS 4890 (H489F1GP).

Now I'm stuck here and don't know how to proceed or if my card is maybe broken.

My System: MacPro 3,1 + ATI 2600XT (original card) + HIS 4890

Booting either into OS X or Boot Camp (WindowsXP SP2) and display connected to the 4890 (still with original ROM, not modified) gives me black screen, nothing happens, only the louder fan I can hear.
Same also after installing Natit with ZEUS. I tried booting the 4890 together with the 2600XT and without it too.

For my understanding booting into Boot Camp is like booting into a PC, what means that any PC-GPU should work, or am I wrong ?

Together with the 2600XT the 4890 is recognized by Windows and operationable.

The original ROM of the card has also different MD5 Checksum than other HIS Cards on Pelotes list of MD5's:
it is 278baa31c62241e90e62bbbbea801f24

The only thing I was able to do up to now is to dump this orig. ROM file with ATI Win Flash (and only with this tool, none of the other GPU-Z etc. worked).

I tried to flash it with a modified HIS Mac ROM file from the package of Cindori, but ATI Win Flash denied to flash my 4890 because of some mismatch of ID's or similar, don't know exactly.
So I don't know which modified ROM could work.

One of the flashing tools I tried was also mentioning:
YOU HAVE NOT CONNECTED ONE OF YOUR VIDEO CARD POWER CONNECTORS TO THE POWER SUPPLY. PLEASE REFER TO THE 'GETTING STARTED GUIDE' FOR PROPER HARDWARE INSTALLATION.

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

I would be very happy if someone know's a solution or help.
Many, many thanks in advance !!
