Just a quick question for those who have tried it.

Has anyone tried a DisplayPort to DVI adapter for any of the flashed 4890's and worked? I wanted to ask before I decided to pick one up.

Never mind, I picked up a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, then I picked up a HDMI male to DVI female, and that worked. BTW, I dunno if anyone has come across this or not, but my VGA port on my 4890 is working. Sadly I can't connect all three DisplayPort-DVI-VGA of them together, but its still neat however if I need to hook up to a VGA video projector.

Another "Great Success!!" post

Got a Sapphire 4890 Ref card (i think its the same as Cind's one)
pn 102-b79002-00-at
or if you like #2115-00

Mac Pro 1,1 X1900XT

tried to use Zeus, but alas after install Nati, and replacing the card with the 4890, no joy, just a blank screen. though the box was working in the background, just no screen.

So, that didnt leave me with much choise, grabbed my PC and pulled the 4870 that was in there, and a USB boot stick with Atiflash on it, backed up the rom and then used the original rom from Cindori (the one thats clocked at 880/999) and you can find on the first page of the "Golden Guide to flashing" then rebooted.

Shut PC down, installed it into the Mac Pro and then got the extra pcie power lead in the mail(right on time) and crossed my finger.

Works like a damm charm!! :)_____)

I then used Zeus to download and install QECI_1063.pkg and now alls perfect!!!!!!

Everything works like a charm, sleep, dual monitors, Bootcamp, everything.....AND to add, this damm card is quieter than the X1900XT it replaced. When just in OSX and just surfing I can even hear if the fans are running... whereas with the x1900Xt is was still rather loud.

Its good, iam happy!!!

Thanks to Cindori, Romulator, Pip and Netkas...
*big bow!!*

Thanks

Anyone flashed their card with lower 2D clocks to safe power and have lower temps ?

I heard people have problems with flickering while changing from 2D to 3D mode.

10.6.4

Is it tried yet? I don't have the guts/time to try to install the update and to get my graphics card turned into a brick ;D Have anyone tried it already?

I updated mine to 10.6.4 and now have no dual monitor support and graphics performance (exposé, for example) is horrible. This happened last time with the 10.6.3 update and it was fixed pretty quickly, can't remember who did it but there was an updated kext available within an hour or two. I'm sure someone will post a similar fix here soon.

Zeus has been updated to carry a QECI downloader for 10.6.4

However, the patch, which is made by netkas, is not yet created, netkas has hinted that he will be done with the patch sometime tomorrow. so for now, the button will give an error message.

For those of you who passed through this flashing thing in bliss, I'm reminding that the QECI patch is the patch you need to re-enable Quartz Extreme and Core Image support for excotic cards, software that manages most of the graphics in OSX.

If you are having issues with a non-excotic card, such as the 4870, you probably still need the 10.6.2 framebuffers and so you should use http://groths.org/dualdvi.zip

To get the 10.6.4 button in Zeus just press Get Updates in the Driver section.

going on vacation for 1 week tomorrow, so hope this sorts out, check netkas.org for updates

The patch is not currently working for my 4890. It will not boot with the patch installed.

I'm booting back up in safe mode now to put 10.6.3 back on. I'll keep an eye on the thread here to see if Netkas does another update.

Thanks for all your hard work on these patches, Netkas. It's great to be able to run a 4890 in my Mac Pro, and waiting a little while after each OS update is well worth it.

For me with Mac Pro and firmware hacked 4870 (with Mac FW) the problem is that QE and CI does not work.

I've tried with Netkas patch but nothing happens. The computer still boots with 10.6.4 but no QE/CI.

I've also looked at http://www.groths.org/ but Zues only gives download error when trying to download the patch.

Without QE/CI iPhoto and Aperture does not work any good (no edit in iPhoto and Aperture wont even start..)

Same issues

Just updated to 10.6.4 on a 2007 MP with a Radeon 4870 and it's pretty much crapped out on me. I installed the package from netkas and it didn't change anything, yet system profiler is still showing a working 4870 1GB. Damn.

I noticed that the patch is "removed" from netkas.

Or at least the text is strike through now for the link to the patch. I guess something is wrong with it. And here is hoping that a new patch is on its way!!

Well, what was struck out was:
"qe_ci_exotic patch – carefuly read instruction in installer for a part of this pkg, when installing."

The underlined link still works (even though it's struck out) so that means we should download it, install it, and we don't have to carefully read instructions any longer. At least that's how I took it. ;)

Did I miss something with 10.6.3, or were 4890 in MacPro1,1 users supposed to do something to AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext?? I am having kernel panics, but that's a whole different story related to the HighPoint RocketRAID 2314 driver... at least that's what i thought...

P.S. - ;) <- this means i was joking. I know most everyone knows that but the last thing I need now is someone actually believing that we don't need to follow instructions

Here is what I'm about to do...

I've applied the combo update (almost a gig), then do what we all did last time. Carry forward the components from when it worked previously.

Let you know how it turns out in a minute...

Now, what page in this thread was that again...:(

Status.

Well, I went back and ran the 10.6.3 QE_CI, then applied the ATI Driver Patch for 10.6.3

So the artifacts are gone, but QE is not enabled. Verbose mode said something about the ATI something-er-other. I'll have to reboot to see what it says. No screen-capture yet. I'm guessing it's channeled through QE.

OK. I thought I would do the ol' Combo update with the QE_CI update before you restart trick. Nothing. Artifacts are back, QE not working.

The verbose message I got was something to the effect "ATIacceleratorDriver : memory map error..."

So there you have it.
