Having a strange issue with 3D acceleration

I have ben using a Flashed XFX 4890 just fine for the last 2 weeks (or whenever it was released by Netkas)

Worked like a charm until yesterday. I started noticing that the dock wasnt smooth anymore and than minimized windows were jerky.

I tried to load up WoW today and was met with a World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D acceleration error message. WTF is going on with my system? any thoughts?

I accidentally upgraded to 10.5.8 without using Netkas updated instruction. Now my VLC player will not work. Using quicktime for now, but very annoying without VLC.

His link is broken, but if you read the entry, he states that you can just use the one from 10.5.7

it is the atiradeonx2000.kext ....you can use the one he did for 10.5.7

Or edit it yourself, add your device id to the plist , save, and fix permissions

reboot

Final Cut Pro external video

I bought an MSI RADEON 4890 T2DIG and applied Netkas's rom.
It works in my MacPro1,1 (2006) plugged into one monitor only.
I have 2 23" cinema displays.
The first connects to the 4890 card.
The second connects to the GT7300.
In FCP I like previewing the HD video timeline onto the second monitor but it only shows white.

I'm running 10.5.7 with the "ATIRadeonX2000.kext".
Does anyone know of a fix for this? Or is anyone running this setup?

this is what you need afaik:
http://rapidshare.de/files/47140484/QE_CI_Exotic_cards.pkg.html

this pkg will be needed after every update I think (i needed to reinstall it after updating 10.5.6 > 10.5.7)

netkas' Link : http://is.gd/27H5R
(The original link on his post was not working properly. type above link or copy&past)
Then the site will be shown like this : http://rapidshare.de/files/48062862/QE_CI_Exotic_cards_10_5_8.pkg.html

Cindory, your linked file is for 10.5.7. Use this link's file.

I am running 10.5.7 with two monitors, one into the 7300GT.
It works fine. I am using the injector, not rom, though.

Solo: thanks, I did not know that 3d accel pkg was updated. I fixed my link.

Obviously I had the same problem after updating to 10.5.8.
The 10.5.7 kext thingy didn't work for me somehow, but the updated one did.
Thanks for all the great work those involved in bringing us better/cheaper graphics!

Ok now I am getting really frustrated! I Just installed this file you provided and now it will boot the grey apple logo screen but when it loads into OS X the screen goes black and the monitor says no input!

To clarify this is a FLASHED (using Rom #2) XFX 4890 that worked perfectly fine before! Please assist me in getting this corrected I need to use my Mac.

Ok something it definately wrong and it happened after I installed the exotic cards update for 10.5.8 Is there a way to completely unistall that update and all the files? Id like to start fresh.. some help from people with working 4890s would be helpful..

I chucked the 4890 back in.

As expected, the 10.5.8 update killed QE/CI but otherwise card drew screen as framebuffer OK.

I ran Netkas 10.5.8 "Exotic Cards" package and rebooted...all good again. Typing from it now.

IIRC, the exotic cards package is a patched ATI2000 kext.

So reinstalling the 10.5.8 update would overwrite it. Correct me if I am wrong, Master Netkas.

Rominator: Teh dude had a flashed card. Did you? Do I dare flash my Sapphire and then update to 10.5.8

I did. Flashed the card while it was the 10.5.7 era, then updated to 10.5.8 and had to use the new CE_whatever file to get 3D acceleration back.

Are there any unforeseeable issues with flashing the 4890 in 10.5.8?

Mine worked for viewing, but does not work with VLC. I managed to destroy my 4890 during the fan installation so I had to order another one and could not tell whether my previous ROM flashing succeeded.

Grrrr

I am getting very frustrated. I used time machine to restore back to the last 10.5.7 backup. From there I decided to try and go back to injector method. I did all the steps over from the origin of this post using 10.5.7. I then flashed the 4890 back to its original PC Bios. It still displays NO monitor activity at all.

This card works fine in my PC however. What the hell could have happened? I consider myself pretty computer savy but im close to throwing in the towl and getting a GTX 285 mac version.

One last ditch effort for help please...

WTF people in the know! nothing like leaving a person hanging!

I could be entirely wrong, but my understanding is that the 4890 is not to be flashed with the 4870 firmware. You keep the card's firmware as-is and get it to work in OS X using the injector method.

It is interesting, however, that you got the 4890 to work (minus VLC) with the 4870 firmware.

Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable than I can chime in ...

The 4890 is flashable.
