Actually, yes

So I made a version for the 4870:

It's based on a XFX rom so don't bitch if your card is different and doesn't work :D
It's the same rom used in this guide:

It's the same instructions as the 4890, unzip everything to your boot drive, run the .app, wait 25 sec, reboot

I did a fresh snow leopard install on my new intel SSD
I got the exact same card like yourself Sapphire 4890 1GB
Logged in as an Administrator

Copy t all the files on the drive,
Then followed the steps

And getting the error popup: "/ATIROMFlasher.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) not found; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8)."

tell current application
do shell script "sudo chown -R root:wheel ATIROMFlasher.kext" with administrator privileges
--> ""
do shell script "sudo chmod -R 644 ATIROMFlasher.kext" with administrator privileges
--> ""
do shell script "/bin/sleep 1"
--> ""
do shell script "sudo kextload ATIROMFlasher.kext" with administrator privileges
--> error "/ATIROMFlasher.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) not found; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8)." number 71
Result:
error "/ATIROMFlasher.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) not found; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8)." number 71

Ok when i tried the first one try1 i got:

really wierd. the path to the kext is correct and still you can't load


OS and what pkg you using?

Thank you very much for the effort to help every mac pro user to improve his video capabilities.

I am a 2008 mac pro user.
I can buy either 4870 or 4890, 1 or 2gb either.
however only sapphire is available in the local market.

My questions are:
1.Will sapphire 4870 or 4890 work fine with the app you made?.
2.Will 2GB cards be working with no problems?.
3.which one do you suggest 4870 2gb or 4890 1gb?

Sorry for all these questions, and many thanks for your effort.
 
There is a bug with OSX that makes it unable to see 2Gig ram on video cards. So dont use that.

Im using a Sapphire 4890 1GB myself, but make sure you don't buy one of the flashy versions (Toxic, Vapor-X etc) but a normal one like the pictures on page 1 of this thread.

I have flashed the 4890 Sapphire 10 times now with my App.

I'm still waiting for confirmation if it works for someone else.
A file was wrong in the pkgs so that is probably why BoramoR could not run it.

I have updated all the pkgs and await confirmation of success...

May I please ask why would you have to flash your card many times?
I want to flash mine once for good lol.

My plan now if 2GB is not supported to buy a local 4870 or amazon 4890.
 
No idea. I'd try. Return if it doesnt work.
Girl is same as mine. But really no clue.

I'm looking at this (Radeon® 4890 1024MB DDR5 Standard (HD-489A-ZDFC)).

But seems some people are having probs with some XFX. Since models are not being mentioned, has anyone had success recently with the ZDFC?

Ok sorry it took some time ;)

still no good, i think you forgot to put in the 4890Flash ap in the "NormalFlash" download.
So i took the one from the Clocked one asuming its the same file.

The outcome is different now for no succes the sesult:

error "mv: rename ATIROMFlasher.kext to /System/Library/Extensions/ATIROMFlasher.kext: Directory not empty" number 1

It seems you almost got it.

I now tried flashing the card in Leopard 10.5.7
Exact same error.

Hope you will be able to fix it.
 
I now tried removing the ATIROMFlasher.kext from the libary and start over.

/System/Library/Extensions/ATIROMFlasher.kext

and getting the AppleScript Error:

kextload: /ATIROMFlasher.kext: nosuch bundle file exists
can't add kernel extension ATIROMFlasher.kext
(file acces/permissions) run kextload on this kext with -t for diagnostic output)
 
would this model work?

Hello experts,

what do you think, would this (please check out the link below) version of the 4890 work?
I have already a wrong revision of the 4870 here (the shop sent me the wrong, I ordered the correct one) --> and regarding the 4890 there is few information of model numbers.

The page is in German but I would appreciate if somebody can confirm if this would work:

Ps how did you mounded your ssd?

I used this movie i found, So you can use it in an original Mac pro bay:

I tried the top disk disk found on top of a dvd spindel.

And it works a really well, only need a drill to drill some holes.
You kan use screws from a old hard drive to attach the ssd to the cd/dvd.
(found on the print plate on the back of the old HD)
