Ultimate Thread: 4890 in Mac Pro

Thanks again for the responses Cindori. Sounds like it won't be too much of a hassle doing that for OS X updates.

So basically I just open the new QE_CI before every update and I'm good to go?

It's good to have guys like you in the community. These computers are still bloody powerful by today's standards, and it's a shame that they've fallen behind graphically because Apple doesn't support better GPU's.
 
Not quite. The QE/CI patch needs to be applied after the OS update. Otherwise it'll just overwrite the changes made by the patch. To make it as smooth as possible simply apply the OS update and before you actually restart apply the patch. All the patch does is add the device IDs for the card to the appropriate driver files. If you check netkas.org you can search for the answer and see how to do it yourself without needing someone to roll a patch for you.

Peloche, i just went trough all of your posts and realized that you gave up. Is that correct?

No I didn't, i did a lot of tries, with always the same result, last one I've installed from scratch SL on a new hdd, and flashed again my GPU with the original bios only.
Installed QE_CI_10.6.1 form Netkas, install ATY_init.text (not ATI_init) rebooted and it works perfectly, now i have to do the same on my other hdd which have been polluated ...
Tomorrow i'll give the exact ref. of this card

no he didnt flash it
just used the injector method (natit, aty init)

mentioned in red on 1st page of this thread

doesnt give you apple grey boot screen

but with full OS X acceleration. :)

I successfully flash the HIS 4890 (1GVRAM) for my 07 MacPro 2.66 but I forgot to backup the BIOS(do anyone can share with me?)

Good deal, I had been following your portion of the 4980 upgrade, just wanted to see if there were others, I think I read about 1 other.

placing my order tonight and should have it next week or the week after. Stationed overseas and USPS can be anything from almost next day to a few months. Purchased a 130 year old lens and it took 2 months to get here and something purchased a few days after the lens arrived in two days...crazy.

Hi mfka,

Sorry mate but i've got bad news, I couldn't recreate the working state on OS X with injectors only, it's amazing that it worked once.
This card is still working well on PC.
So last chance could be the new flash.app from Cindori, xfingers.
 
before anybody bricks another card....please do the "mcuc" test I mentioned in 4870 thread.

If it isn't there twice in ROM let someone like myself or another regular do a ROM for you. We can't always make it work, but I can give you a 100% guarantee that if "mcuc" isn't in the ROM twice, it WON'T WORK and will likely need a PC to avoid an RMA situation. I am happy to write ROMs for the community when have time.

Can't emphasize this enough...if "mcuc" isn't in the ROM twice...YOU WILL BRICK YOUR CARD! If you aren't flashing a known good ROM for your specific card, do the test. If you read through the posts, people using untried and wrong ROMs frequently end up testing the RMA procedures of their retailer. Spend a few extra minutes on this and you will greatly improve your odds of ending up with a working card.
 
Hi,
now i have so issue of putting back my x1900 and 2600xt card.
The monitor (hp lp2477w) says signal active in black and 2 second after this it is going to sleep?
I had restart the SMC and Resetting PRAM and NVRAM.
Nothing, just black screen, this was happened earlier but somehow i was manage to get it back to normal??
All my card works fine in pc-win computer.

This problem was after i test the xfx hd 4890 xxx whits was working well.

Any idea? I have install this files.
