Which doesn't make much sense. This is simply a stock card with a different cooler. The Toxic is overclocked. In other words, the Toxic should not work and the Vapor should, but we seem to have the exact opposite happening here.

It might just be a versioning issue, but without more information it seems very odd. Which is too bad, because I wanted the Vapor.

Maury

when they change the cooler it's pretty much a guarantee that they changed some other things on the card, making the ROM simply incompatible.

I can confirm another successful flash of the HIS H489F1GP and it's working just fine under OS X. The only odd thing I've noticed is that it's scoring lower in Xbench then my old 8800GT or even the previous X1900XT. Hopefully this isn't a ROM issue. Another strange thing is that under the Graphics/Displays pane of the ASP it doesn't even list QE or CI for either display. SameOle can you verify this as well?

qe ci is not supposed to be listed

try play video in VLC, or a game, if it works, you got it.

for the score, Xbench suck for benchmark

even opengl benchmark sucks, but it sucks less

I already know QE and CI are working as expected, Dashboard widget ripple. The only weird behavior I've noticed is that quitting VLC with a video playing causes it to beachball before closing. If they're not supposed to be listed then please explain the bottom left attachment in this post.

might be cause it's an apple display
maybe third party displays does not list it

anyway not listed for me and I assure you everythings working, I've been running the card for 5 months.

Mine is still running fine after nearly 24 hours.

Fan is idling and spinning up properly under load, everything is much snappier in general for me.

Running on a 23" cinema display and a 24" ASUS display, both DVI.

QE/CI are not listed if you are on Snow Leopard. They have been removed from System Profiler for some reason.

I too can assure you QE/CI are working. Transparent dock and ripple effect for dock icons confirm this. Also, I read that opening DVD Player will throw an error if you don't have QE/CI enabled.

I haven't played any games on it yet but will try some this weekend probably. Anyone gaming in VMWare Fusion or Parallels? Or is everyone using Windows via Bootcamp?

gaming in virtual machine, probably cuts performance by 50%
id rather just boot native and also get native performance.

Hi, my friend want to test the HD-489X-ZSFL, do any one test this.
HD-489X-ZSFL is almost same as the HD-489A-ZDDC what i have use and test.
So i think it works same way or?
The different is Core Clock:850 MHz = ZSFL and Core Clock:900 MHz =ZDDC

Oh I know, but the Toxic also has a custom cooler AND it's overclocked. So we know for sure that they changed things. Yet that one worked!

Maury

Been using it most of the day now and it is like a dream!

Any gaming so far? I'm a major Halo player and my 8800 has some artifacts I'd like to see go away (the 1900 didn't have them, but it was much slower).

it worked with issues; the dude that tried said it sometimes gave black screen and he had to reboot. so stay away from non-reference cards..

Core clock does not matter, you overwrite that anyway when you flash.
dont think that one has it been tested.
if it looks reference, go ahead and have him try the flash app. Good to have backup rom though.

I used the ATI power cables purchased from here:

http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=3280778

Want to have 30 seconds of fun? Click on that link and go to the US ATI store. I'm in Toronto, so I clicked on the link for the Canadian store...

Hmmmmm.

I decided to be a good Samaritan and call them up and tell them someone is squatting their page. I called the Canadian office, as it seems like it's their problem, but no one answers the phone there. I tried the main switchboard, sales and even a few random extensions. Nothing.

So I called the US and got a receptionist. I explained the problem, and she switched me to the Canadian main line... which no one answers of course. So I called back and tried again. This time they switched me to the department that runs their trade shows. The people at that department couldn't get anyone in the web department on the phone, so they took my info and promised to call back. They didn't.

Really, not a terribly inspiring experience.

Is this the right cable?

The Canadian ATI store is still down, so I'm looking for alternates. Unfortunately the picture is too small to see what it has on the ends.

Is it 6-pin male on one end and 6-pin female on the other? If so, is this the right cable?

Or is it 8-pin male and 6-pin female? In that case, it would seem this is the one?

Will work too.

I’m confused about those cables too.

I have GF 8800 and X1900 XT,
is it possible to use those 2 cables?

Anyways i just ordered same card as cindori.

Cheers!

Hello Maury, I just played a 6 hour Empire: Total War session and the card worked beautifully. The fan never became noticeable and in fact it's surprisingly quiet for an ATI card. Compared to the XFX ZDFC 4890 this card replaced it's practically whisper quiet.

yes you can use those cables, they are exactly the same.

Thanks a lot mate!

Did you flashed the card with overclocked rom or with regular one?
I noticed that 4890 had lower benchmark results than 8800 in your case.
Is is faster in the game and in general?

Cheers!

he used xbench to benchmark, it sucks, cant be trusted
i had the 8800gt before my 4890
the 4890 is alot faster in gaming in OSX, and windows.

mfka, I flashed it using the Normal package; which technically is also overclocked since the stock speeds on the reference 4890s are 850/975 as opposed to 880/1000. I'm gonna agree with Cindori and say the Xbench results are not to be trusted. Compared to the 8800GT the 4890 is definitely faster in real world performance.

Excellent!
My card will come in a day or two,
i will post my results.

Oh boy, hope all is gonna be fine.

Once you flash a 4890, will you have to continue flashing or updating the ROM when new updates to OS X become available?

No. Once you flash it you can leave it and forget it. The only thing you'll have to worry about when OS X gets updated is temporarily losing QE and CI. When an update comes out just check netkas.org for the corresponding QE CI Patch. He usually has the patch out within 24 hours of an OS update so you won't have long to wait.

Thanks for the reply. Will this happen with every OS update?

it has been needed every update so far

I also plan to release QE_CI updates, it is good for people to not feel depended on 1 person only
