Great. Thanks Cindori. I'll install the 4890 after the Natit PKG runs. Then once booted back in I'll flash the card.

Oh wow. Your new app will be really easy to use. I might do that then. We'll see how my patience goes, but sounds like using your Tool will be much more streamlined.

the 4890 only need to be in mac when flashing.

otherwise your steps are correct. that should work out fine for you. your card will keep the clock even if you remove it from the computer.

if you have patience to wait until tomorrow though, you can try my new Tool. it is all-in-1, no need to juggle around with kexts, .pkgs, apps, removers etc.

yup it's really working great :)

and it has cool icon too!

Releasing it tomorrow!

That's awesome! Icon looks great. When I sell my 4870 I'll make a donation to you for your efforts. :)

with this app, it will also be alot easier for people to try out new roms, you wouldnt have to go trough the trouble of making a bootcd with the roms on.

btw, I am looking for 1 beta tester.

ideal choice is: person with already flashed card (so we know that the card works with rom) person should also have PC at hand should something go wrong

not that I think so, I have flashed my card 10 times now. BUT I want to test with 1 other computer before releasing it public.

4870/4890 does not matter.

if you are interested PM me and I will send you the app asap.

I get THE same sapphire Cindori showed us.
I flashed it with the Normal Package Cindori provided to us.
Re-install Snow Leopard 10.6.1.
I applied QE_CI_Exotic_cards_10.6.1.pkg but got artefacts when playing videos, clicking on stacks or calling exposé and my monitor wasn't detected.
In fact it wasn't the good package, I downloaded Overclock Package.
So I applied once again QE_CI_Exotic_cards_10.6.1.pkg from the Normal Package.
This time no artefacts, monitor detected, everything is fine except "mouse jumps". Mouse stale every 5 seconds.

What is the difference between QE_CI_Exotic_cards_10.6.1.pkg in Normal Package and QE_CI_Exotic_cards_10.6.1.pkg in Overclock Package ?
What can I do to avoid this "mouse jumps" ? (already tried the SwitchresX 59Hz trick without luck)

 Mac Pro early 2008
Samsung SyncMaster 932 BF
:)

Edit : on my TV (SONY KDL-D3000) I don't have this "mouse jumps"

artifacts and mouse jumps are errors caused by rom clock - ati driver - display combination.

people have reported mouse jumps with Apple cards also.

your best luck is to check apple discussion board or just google for "apple 4870 mouse jump"

I just received my HIS 4890 in the mail. I have two six pin power cables that worked on my 4870 Mac Edition. Will these continue to work with the 4890? The reason I ask is one of the female ends on the actual card looks like it's meant to be used with an 8 pin power cable. Can someone quickly confirm for me?

Thanks Treksdot. I have another problem. I installed the Natit PKG and a it said it installed successfully, but another grey little warning window popped up saying something about something not being installed right afterwards. I proceeded to turn the computer, take out the 4870 Mac Edition, and plug in the HIS 4890. I'm not getting any picture on the monitor now - it just remains black.

Can anyone help? What should I do from here?

Should I put the 4870 back in and try reinstalling the Natit PKG?

Looks to be you're only option. After you've installed Natit again pop open Terminal and use this command on each extension to make sure it'll work fine.

Code:
sudo kextutil -nt your_kernel_file_here

To make it easy you can simply drag and drop either extension to the Terminal window from the Finder instead of typing it out.

Okay, so I reinstalled Natit and this time didn't have anything else pop up. I took out the 4870 and put in the 4890. Still no picture. Just a black screen.

Should I go back, install it yet again and use that command in Terminal? Where would I find each extension? Sorry, I'm not as technical as some of you here.

Keep in mind that using the injector method you'll get a black screen up until the desktop actually loads. Do you use AIM by any chance?

I've put on automatic login and I've waited a few minutes for everything to load. Still nothing. I don't have AIM, sorry. I'm also just running to have a quick bite to eat. I can make an account though. I also have MSN. Thanks very much for helping.

redneck please state what OS version you are having.

also what System Info says when you boot with it
(i think you can run your apple 4870 + 4890, with no power on the 4890, and it will still show in sysinfo)

When I tried using the injectors it took a little longer to boot for some reason, talking minutes not seconds.

o_O never had that,

I am using the latest version of Snow Leopard. 10.6.1 I believe.

When I open System profiler with both cards in like you suggested it tells me that "There was an error while gathering PCI card information."

So I used Natit Remover and rebooted. I can't get the Expansion Slot Utility back - I did a search for it and can't find anything now. In System Profiler it still tells me there is an error.

well I tried to replicate your issues
so,

I installed Natit and then flashed my 4890 to PC rom (with my new tool, god it's so easy)

Rebooted and here I am now. this is on 10.6.1.
I tried 10.5.8 too just to be safe ;)
Pretty sure I used same Natit pkg too.

have you tried the card in Windows? have you tried both dvi ports on card?

//going to bed

Cindori,

I have not tried both DVI ports or Windows. I will try this. Thanks for your help. Have a goodnight. Looking forward to seeing your Flashing Tool tomorrow.
