Ultimate Thread: 4890 in Mac Pro

Hi everybody ,

This is my first post , here on macrumors , but that doesn't mean I'm new here.I'm reading this wonderful forum already 3 years now and I wanna thanks to all the people for making possible of using pc graphics cards in our Macs .
After reading all this thread I purchase an ati radeon 4890 from Sapphire( the one with heat pipes under the plastic cover)and I tried ,at first,to use the easy methode with injector but my MacPro 2008 2xquad 2,8 with 10.6.1 didn't want to boot with it inside.So I try to flash it using the FreeDos with the pc4890.rom find on netkas.org site. Everything went good until restart.I have the chime continuously and the red lights are on on the logicbord. Now I can't even boot from the FreeDos cdrom. In fact I can't boot at all with the pc card in MacPro.
So ,any suggestions I more than welcome .

first, get a PC to reflash card to original bios

then, tell us what model you have so we can give you a working rom.

On the box its say "Radeon 4890 Battlestations Pacific"
I can post a picture eventually .
Flashing back on windows it's gonna be a problem cos' I lost the original rom.Can I find one somewhere ?On what version of windows it would work(vista ,xp...)?

"Radeon 4890 Battlestations Pacific"
is not model, it means you get the game Battlestations Pacific also inside the box.
 
I found this on a sticker : P/N: FC00124-R0 2B937C1

I still found something : PN 288-1E115-D208A
SKU#11150-11

Battery from my camera it's flat so as soon as it's loaded I'll post a picture.
It will work to flash in bootcamp windows?

if it is, there are no mac roms for it. yet.

also alot of info about it on the last 5 pages in this thread. you should read them.

Is it PN 288-1E115-D208A or PN 288-1E115-D20SA ?
 
Step by step by Peloche.

Instructions here are for Os X 10.6.1
Mac Pro and Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 New Edition
equipped with Qimonda memories chipsets.

What you'll have to do:

1 - download kexthelper
here --> http://web.mac.com/v1.42ghz/Kext_Hel...elper%20b7.zip

2 - download QE_Ci_Exotic_cards_10.6.1.pkg
here --> http://is.gd/39wWt

3 - Unzip attached archive.zip and you'll have 2 files ATY.Init.kext and Natit.kext

4 - Click twice on kext helper,

5 - Drag and drop the two files (ATY.Init.kext and Natit.kext) in kext helper window

6 - enter your administrator password and hit return.

7 - Double click on QE_Ci_Exotic_cards_10.6.1.pkg and follow instructions

8 - Reboot, no, no, Xfingers and reboot

9 - Good luck at reboot


This is NOT flash method, it is injector!

Thanks mfka, I have read almost everything from #913.
The problem is that it wont boot.It doesn't pass the beginning sound .It's keep playing again and again. No boot at all.
So ,Cindori , advice me to try to flash it back with the pc rom on a windows machine.Problem is that I don't have the original pc rom and neither a win box.My question is can it be done on win from bootcamp and can you send me the pc rom.
The problem is that it wont boot.I have tried to boot on FreeDos and without success .
So how can I make it to boot?

Could you please at first answer #913 please this will indicates if i (or mfka) can send you our rom

You have to know which rom you have to use to go back to initial state, if memory is Qimonda it will be ok if it's Hynix we won't be able to help you.
 
Ok , cooling is off.

On the main chip (was full with cooling pasta) I don't see no any of the above names.
All that is wrietten is ATI 0932 NOP 106.00 215-0758000 and all this one under each other.
Maybe I'm looking at the wrong chip :D
 
you can not boot your mac anymore with the 4890. not in windows, not in osx, not in anything.

you have to reflash in a PC machine. that is the only way.

It's not on the main chip it's on the chips around

So infortunatly we can't provide you with our rom, is there anybody with Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 New Edition with Hynix memory chips reading this thread ?
 
I'm gonna have to wait until tomorrow to buy some cooling pasta(here it's 19,30 already ) cos I cleaned it completely .
Hope til then somebody my rom will read this post.
