Calming
Drexus if you check the 4890 compatibility thread in this forum you'll see which card to get and where to get the necessary cables. They both plug into the logic board and you need do nothing with the optical bays. You need a second working card to boot off of and run the display so you can flash the 4890. If you have a secondary ATI card then this complicates the process to a small extent and is covered in Cindori's instructions. The instructions found in the first post are still current and in fact do not conflict with itself, if it does it's because you're reading the red text. Cindori went through the trouble of making the process as automated as possible and if you would check your attitude you'll find out how easy it really is. Later today Cindori will be releasing his new and improved flashing utility which should make the whole thing even simpler. Hope that helped.
Treksdot: I have to apologize for coming across a bit frayed. As indicated, I've been through a rough course with the stock X1900. The timing of my card failing is poor to say the least. Normally I would have considered forking out the big cash for an Apple store purchase, but I've committed a sizeable portion of funds to something else this year, and that coupled with the unfortunate failure of my GPU has put me into a spot. So I took a chance and brought home the Sapphire HD 4890. Once I opened the box I was committed to making it work. Projects lined up, clients calling, work piling up... and then, the new card cannot run = one frustrated guy. So again, sorry for sounding impatient, but it was starting to sound like a pipe-dream after 10 hours of reading threads.
The conflict I found with the original post was the fact that it did not say to have a second card [from nvidia] running the main screen. It just assumed it was there, and that everything was ready.
Cindori: Your patience and understanding is admirable. Thank you. I'm myself now... all chilled and collected. Congrats on the achievement! I understand there isn't a ROM for my card at this time. If there is anything I can do to help this process, please let me know.
My only question at this time is: Can I flash the card with the new awesome ATI flash tool (once a ROM is available) by using the Netkas method to boot with the 4890, and flash it with the new ATI tool? I just want to avoid having to find a second card just to get this one working.
Rominator: Thank you for the extensive report on the current status of things. Your time in offering this is much appreciated.
mfka: The image of the card you show in #1008 is the one I'm holding. I've downloaded all the material you posted in #1013 (I just had to get past the porn redirect for the QC link). I'm off to get another power cable from the new Apple store here. I don't want to kill my power supply by jumping off the optical bay. (good thing too, I have it all wired to go, but didn't go beyond that).
Again, thank you all. I'll be back later with the card in place.
