Yeah, is it not wierd that it actually works for a while?

Could we not fix this in some way? netkas?

yes, that's very strange, i connect the second dvi screen.
everything works perfect, for about 10 seconds, and then it freezes and reboots.

let's hope it's easy to fix!

Started playing wow again and here is some results with 4890:

So I just got my new 23" monitors and man oh man did my 2600 flop on its head when I ran that OpenGL benchmark, can't even get over 100 fps, good thing my XFX 4870 is on it's way...

Is it possible to install an other boot loader (ex: Refit) so we can choose startup disks again in the beginning?

Just a word to say that i had to change my 4890, it had a defect, the fan would not work, so the card would overheat and shut down for security, that explains numerous crashes i experienced. Gonna try the new one soon.
Thanx again for the help folks!

Hello everybody

I finally got works also my Sapphire 4890 1GB.

Only one monitor. With second one it works only few seconds...
It's a pity. I hope Netkas or some other one can find a solution...

So can I mantain my "old" 8800GT for second monitor?

I have to plug it in 4th or 2nd pci-e slot?

Thanks a lot

Carlo

Just figured I'd post this, I received my XFX 4870 in the mail today and flashed it, here are the results:

By the way, BOTH DVI ports are working. :D

So you have two monitors connected?
Great!

Per my signature, I have 2 x Dell S2309W monitors connected, each running at 1920x1080, and they both work perfect, I've stress tested both DVI ports by running games on each one of the screens, I couldn't ask for more, I got this card for $149.99 w/ free shipping, so I saved ALOT of money. :D

Xfx

Can you confirm that you are on a MacPro (rev?) or Hackintosh?
We might get some good news from SLeo for the management of the second display, until then it seems pretty cool to use a 4870...
Ill have to stick on my 4890 until then with a little hope for the future.

Mac Pro 3,1 as I said it's a XFX 4870 not 4890 but yes both DVI are working.

I've just installed a XFX 4870X2 in my 2007 8 core (Clovertown) Mac Pro, and all is working sweet! Dual monitor support is running fine. :)

It seems for us Mac Pro owners, XFX is the card to go for. I would wager that the XFX 4890 would work too.

By the way, obviously my card is not flashed - it's just running with the Netkas injectors.

One thing though, my OGL benchmarks are way down on what I was expecting - is this something to do with my card being an X2, and having one core disabled in OSX? Going to boot in Windows now and see what this baby can REALLY do! :)

yeah, when I was playing around with a 4870x2 it had similar performance. Be happy that Netkas got it working for OSX.

If it wasn't for him, you'd be staring at a black screen.

It would be nice if we found a ROM or kext fix to make this card work better in OSX, but I wouldn't wait by my cable modem.

Glad to hear it is working for you !!!!

I actually have trouble with mine, under SERIOUS stress in WIndows it will crash/reboot, I think it is a power thing.

Just ran a few tests in Windows and I seem to have the same issue. Ran the ogl extensions viewer test and the figures were amazing. Then I loaded up Gears of War and about 5 minutes in the whole system shut down.

I thought that Barefeats tested a Mac Pro with a 4870x2 under windows with no issues?

I'm going to see if I can return the card as it won't do anything I need it to. :(

Is it worth to upgrade from 8800GT to 4870 beacuse of WoW in 2560x1600 res? What's the difference in fps? Is it worth to go to 4890 instead of original 4870? I need one dual-DVI working obviously.

I went from 8800GT to 4890. For only one DualLink-DVI, it is the best alternative. Yes, it blows the 8800GT away in WoW. I'm only playing in 1900x1200 but now I can enable shadows, specular lightning, and full multisampling.

Does the 4890 work in PCIe 2.0 mode 5Gb

Just a short question - does the 4890 us the PCIe 2.0 mode or does it work like the flashed PC 4870 in 1.1 mode ( 2.5GB/s).

Thanks for your help

Hello

Would DUAL DVI work, if I run my Mac with two GFX Cards?
GT120 (the standard one) + the 4890 Sapphire at the same time?

Someone claimed it worked with the 7300gt.

And - would this work under Windows aswell?

I did it with the 7300. It works in OSX and Windows 7, but not Vista.
I've read that it works with XP too.

However for full Win-compatability, you should use cards of the same manufacturer, aka 2 ATI cards.

On a side note, I have flashed my Sapphire 4890 with a OC rom. Now it runs at 901MHz instad of 850. Yet don't see any higher scores in that benchmark utility. Games in Windows runs alot smoother though.

I don't know if this would be helpful for Mac Pro users, but still I will share.

XFX 4890 on a PC running vanilla 10.5.7 + Natit + ati2000.kext

Only one DVI works at a time. If booted with two -> blue screen. If second connected after Leo is up -> crash.

If you'd like me to try something ( ROM? ) let me know.

P.S. btw, the system thinks there are no monitors connected at all (see screenshots)

I'm pretty sure that I see it has a monitor connected... ??

doh, of course! I'm reading "No Display Connected..." It was late last night :)

BTW, The Rominator, how likely is that the rom you posted for 4890 will work/not work on this card? I am willing to try but don't have another card if something goes bad...
