Installed
And this: http://rapidshare.de/files/46893369/accel.tar.bz2.html
Which I installed with kexthelper
(@ http://cheetha.net/)
Of course doing this with my Mac card in the comp.
Rebooted with 4890 in slot 1, but still no picture. Scratched my head for
a while, and remembered I had only 10.5.6 of OSX. Dont miss that! So I
updated and then the card ran.
However I did not have Quartz extreme enabled and no video in VLC player.
So I installed this too:

and then everything worked!
Djulz: How did you power your cards?
i use potatoes and regular redox for that.
*pun intended*
You'd want to use this cable (x2) for powering the card. Attempting to run it off the Molex connectors could result in damaging the PSU.Hi All...
I just bought the 4890 (Sapphire/Over-clocked)
I have a 2.66 new 2009 Pro.
I have ordered the molex power adapters so I can run it from the powerdrive bay, and hopefully find a way with the adapters and splitters and things I ordered off amazon to eventually power it and getting a Blue Ray drive.... but lets stick to one topic at a time
I don't need any of the drivers because I have a new machine? and 10.5.7 apparently makes some of them less relevant/needed I am aware after reading the last 8 pages.....
Am I missing anything needed to pop this in once I run power (is there anywhere else on the new 09 to get power from? Power Adapter is sealed, and there are no other cables/ports/anything to plug into without taking the Chassis out and getting the the MB behind the whole case......
Thanks a bunch

I don't think there can be any argument that dropping $25 to power the GPU from a power source designated for the GPU is a better idea than having a PC like nest of power cables bringing power down from drive area.
Using the official cables should ALWAYS be the first and best option.
As it happens, I recall a thread where a member recently lost the PSU (not that old). It occured after installing a graphics card, and obtaining the power via the Molex cable in the empty optical bay. Startup draw was pulling more than the rail was made to handle. Eventually, it went.Excuse me, how did you manage to translate "Not yet reported" into "could"?
People have been doing this for years - including myself, with no problems.
I ended up buying the 6 pin connectors needed (erm, cable that is)
Two Questions:
Where is the port found on the MB? Will I just see it if I look (at work) or do I need to go nutz and remove and screws?
2nd: Will the card just "work"? lol.... I know I am overthinking this, but someone just say yes or no with an explaination
Best everyone, thanks as always!

I wasn't sure if it was one or two of themSomebody running two 4870s - can't remember offhand whom - did it by using PCIe 6-pin Y-splitters so there were two taps coming from each port on the logic board. He said it worked, no problems. It was in the dual 4870s thread.
The max power available would be higher, as cards have access to another 75W off the PCIe slot (75W x3).ATI doesn't list the max draw for the 4890 (8800gt is 105W), they just say it needs two 75w. so max can be assumed 150.
