ok I'll upload it as soon as I get the second power cable to hook it up. Hopefully either tomorrow or Monday. Thanks again.

You can start with something that does work...the power cables.

Here is where I bought mine:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270464636969

Was here (Atlanta) in just a few days free shipping. Well made. Working fine.

Then, dump your ROM as Cindori requested and wish him luck.

You've got plenty of time to return the card so don't sweat it.

Ok I believe I'm completely screwed. I just received the XFX ZSFC from newegg and it says "Ver 3.1".

Now what am I supposed to do???

You could also use the cables that came with the card to power your 4890 through the secondary power in the optical bay. I did that for a few days while waiting for my new cable to arrive.

Hi all,

I am at the end of my knowledge and really frustrated:

I bought a Sapphire Vapor-X HD4890 1G GDDR5 PCI-E HDMI/DP/DVI/VGA card.
The SKU is 11150-05-20R
I saw in this thread that this card was flashed successfully some times, but I have no luck!

First I tested the card in a PC and it worked fine. Could not flash it there as I have no disk drive and this PC cannot bot from USB stick.

I installed Natit, removed my 8800GT and installed the Vapor-X, result: no signal, black monitor!

Then I plugged the ATI card together with my 8800GT in my early 2008 MacPro, removed Natit and flashed the ATI card with the flashing tool and ROMs from first page of this thread, removed 8800GT, result: no signal, black monitor!

I flashed again, and installed qe_ci, result: kernel panic!
I had to remove ATIRadeonX2000.kext, than my Mac worked again.

I can do what I want, nothing shown on my screen. I used DVI port and HDMI port, always no result.

What am I doing wrong?

Zvoni

Thanks youngblood, I actually ordered the cable from there a couple of days ago. I'm in Los Angeles, just waitin for it to arrive.

Meanwhile I'll try Mackilroy's method. Thanks guys.

Optical Bay?

I am waiting for my cables as well. Hopefully the 2.0 rom will be available. Also, Mackilroy, you said you can power it from the second optical bay? How?

I am really tempted to buy a 4890 or 4870 .. my local bb has them both on sale .. the xfx brand. But since im running an acd with mdp i really dont want to purchase a 100 dollar adapater .. sucks

modified your rom

when you flash with AFT, check the dock. during the flashing process, an icon appears. if it only stays for 1 or 2 seconds, it means it cant find card, so you'll have to flash with Bootcd.

Cindori, you are my god of graphic cards ;)

Could not flash with my Mac, had that icon in my dock only for 2 seconds, but found a way how I could flash with my old PC.

Now everything works fine in SL as well as in Windows 7.

I am really happy with my new 4890, it is really silent, no more fan noise when gaming.

I have only one minor bug: Every time i start SL I get the message that the power cord is not right connected to my graphic card

XFX 489A-ZDF7 stock

I want to thank you again for the flash update! I have a renewed my love for my 1.1 mac pro. The thing that hurt it for me was the video card and I refused to pay 400+ for older mac flashed video cards. I had just about given up until I read this thread.

NOTE*** to reiterate Cindori's post, FLASH THE CARD. After installing the flash using the Overclock package, after a few reboots, I got the GSOD and had to reformat my entire HD. I was able to complete the install, with the SL disc, using just the 4890 video card because it had already been flashed before the crash. When SL was up and running again, the 4890 was already recognized, just had to install the exotic package.

MY CARD (for the compatibility list):
XFX 489A-ZDF7 stock
used the overclock package...not good results, the fan was running hard at ALL TIMES and was very loud...
I reverted to the normal package... SILENCE almost as if using the stock card, the fan runs great during game play.

Hey guys, I have this exact card and I'm having some issues getting it going. Currently getting the power error message in both OSx and windows 7. Maybe its the wrong ROM? I used the XFX Normal Clocked one included in the ATIFlash app ROM.zip.... Any help mucho appreciated....

You guys have flashed a ton of cards successfully at this point. How has the functionality of non-DVI ports been on these flashes? Like HDMI, for example. Does that work in OS X?

your card can be different. can prob fix if you still have your original rom.
please do rule out that power isnt actually bad, first.

hdmi = dvi. the signal that is. can't speak of it tho as I have not actually tried one.

almost got XFX HD-489A-ZDF7 working in my MacPro1,1

My current set up:

I currently have my 4890 in Slot 1 powered by 4 pin Y coming from the second optical drive power. I have my old x1900 in the Slot 2 powered by the original PCI power connector attached to the MB that came with the computer.

Oops

missed your reply Cindori....

Unfortunately, I am a big Moron.... I tried to pull the original ROM from the card last night with gpu-z, but it kept giving a message saying that it wasnt capable of accessing it. I think its a windows 7 bug with gpu-z. Anyway, I got impatient and flashed it anyway...duhhh. Fortunately, the guy i bought the card from has another and I can probably get him to pull the rom from his other card.

I'll get back to you on that one....

As for the power supply. I have 2 hard drives, 11 GB of RAM, the optical drive, and my olf x1900 plugged in at the moment.

I tried it with different cable configs and everything gave me the power error message. Even with optical drive unplugged, no x1900, one of the 4890 6 pins coming from the mother board from my original x1900 power cables and the other 6 pin plugged into the spare optical drive 4 pin. So I think it has to be the ROM and not the power supply....

ok, weirdness

So, I've been messing around with stuff this evening and I have made some negative progress.

I flashed with this ROM:
http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=202915&d=1258042665
and had temporary success. I was able to boot into OSX and run with full resolution and qe_ci. But, windows 7 didnt recognize the card and when I pulled out my old x1900, neither osx or windows worked....sigh. I guess I will wait to get the original ROM and have one of your superior beings build me a mac modified one....

fine then...a hackint0sh it is

all i have to say is I just spent 12 hours trying to get a ****ing video card installed on my overly expensive MacPro and now I'm pissed. I am going to build a glorious hackint0sh because this is retarded and annoying. Good luck and god speed to you mac addicts, but this one just quit.... **** you apple, you just dropped about 10 notches in my opinion, period.
