But what about the 5870? I heard it works on Mac Pro (Windows O/S)
If it does, does it work on 1st generation Mac Pro? 1.1, 2006/07 model?

Anyone know the answer to this?

It won't work in OSX, but Windows, sure.

A Mac booting Windows is a PC. You can use any graphics card you'd like.

Does Natit work with Snow Leopard and the 4890? I'm confused.

I just installed a XFX ZSFC ver 3.1

Before I installed the card I installed Natit from the ATI Flashing tool, shut the computer down, removed my 3870, connected the 4890, and powered back up.

When my I boot up my Mac I hear the startup chime and I hear the OS load, but my displays don't go out of standby mode. They're not getting any video signal. I double checked to make sure both power connections are working. I removed the 4890 and put my 3870 back in - everything works.

It seems to me like Natit isn't working? I selected XFX as the type of card when I installed it.

Custom natits aren't working

Hi all! I read this thread for a long time and I bought a few months ago the HIS Radeon 4890 1GB (look as HIS card in first post) . I installed it in my first gen Mac Pro (1.1) using two 6 pins PCIe power cables.
On Windows XP (Bootcamp) all is fine and I can backup the ROM with GPU-Z.

On OSX 10.6.2 I installed Natit from the ATI Flashing tool (selecting HIS as card type), and like Fast Shadow, after startup chime and normal disc activity, I have a black screen.

I compared my ROM and the original HIS ROM found in the first version of ATI Flashing Tool, and they are different!

How I can Flash my card, and with what ROM?
Here is my ROM.

Custom natits aren't working

Got it.

I flashed my card using the boot CD and it works great. Tested and confirmed QE_CI works as well. Thanks again to you and everyone else who makes this possible.

For reference my system is:

Mac Pro 3,1
10gb RAM
10.6.2
XFX 4890 ZSFC ver 3.1
Flashed using the ROM provided to jebha

Method: atiflash on BootCD

I am soon done with updating flashing core of the Tool.

This will allow for much easier flashing; you no longer need to remove other ATI cards, thus removing the whole Injector/Natit mayhem.

it will be included in ATI Flashing Tool 1.3, expect release early february.

until then, flash with bootcd if you have other ati cards.

hynix is not a card, it's just a rom chip manufacturer.
lucky that you got right rom.

Yes you are right, confusion maybe due to my bad English :)

By the way I was maybe too optmistic, because now the MacPro sometimes Crash "Kernel Panic" :eek:

Could it be related to the ROM I used to flash it is not 100% compatible with my card.

If so, can someone help me with my Original ROM ?

Thanks,

I've been running a Diamond 4890 (PE51G) flashed with the HIS ROM for over a month now with no big problems...just a periodic minor video jitter here and there. Following Peloche's guide, I've edited the original Diamond ROM and created a mac modified version. Finally fixed the error I made in the first go-around and everything (fans, sleep, etc) seems to be working correctly now.

Sapphire HD4890 1G OC Version bricked

Hi every one there

I'm the owner of this

Sapphire HD4890 1G GDDR5 PCI E DUAL DVI/TVO OC Version
PN =288-1E115-200SA
SKU= 1150-04-20R

After I tried a flash the GPU was bricked

So i decided to put it back in my PC. and forgot about binging it to the mac (I don't need it that much on mac)

Trouble is that :
-of course dumb as I am , I got no backup ROM;
-All rom I've tried so far just don't work the "atiflash -f " sequence command is successfull BUT on reboot :
kind of blank screen : (gray vertical rays and nothing else)

I've been looking through forums for the last two days ; all i see is about some trouble regarding the power supplied ; for this I checked : I'm on a 700W Tagan ; I've plugged the 2*6pin connectors of my card. So...
Just one thing : most people seems to have a (6+2 ) and 8 pin power plugs on their card; mine is 6 and 6 pin.

Well my question is this one : how can I flash back this card to it's original firmware and back to it's windows world

I'm not willing to bring it to mac anymore;
so please those who have an original ROM for this model , thanks to send it to me;
And those who know how to proceed; or some tools to check what is going on ?
another utility to use for flashing ?
Your help is precious...

Cindori, do you have any idea why the card's fan revs up and down a few times and then goes silent every 4 or 5 minutes. It's a cycle that keeps happening, even though I check the temp to be a stable 33 degrees celcius throughout.

I am pretty sure this is a driver thing. My 3870 Mac & PC Edition acted the same way and it was made for use on the Mac. It looks like the drivers are set up to increase the fans whenever the GPU is called up to do some kind of accelerated behavior. Like any of the quartz extreme stuff, etc. My 4890 behaves the same way my 3870 did, which is how you're describing.

Also, the card only behaves this way in OSX. In Windows the fan does not spin up for every little 3D accelerated task. Again, this makes me conclude it's something in the drivers.

Hi all,

Just realized that during the flash I got a new P/N "Picture below", is that normal ?

Thanks for your help.

HIS H489FT1GP HD4890 1GB In Mac Pro 1,1

I purchased a HIS H489FT1GP HD4890 1GB from newegg, 220$. This is the "Fan Turbo" edition. It works under bootcamp fine with Windows 7. I am using the awesome flash tool to inject drivers and QE_CI under 10.6.2. MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE COMBO UPDATE FOR 10.6.2. It will fix potential kernel panics.

Will be flashing soon, but I am happy with the injected drivers.:apple:

I routed cabling from the optical drive. The door does lock shut, but it is a little tight. I have an Mac ATI PCI-E cable on order that I will use in concert with a 6 to 8 pin adapter.

look in my sig for superdrive cable routing

you dont need 6 to 8 pin adapter. 6pin works fine in a 8pin port on the gpu.
use the 5$ to donate to ati flashing tool instead :D

I forgot to donate buddy my bad. Will do it in a sec. And I just wanted to update you guys since my XP just started working on both monitors as well. I have no idea why, but it just did. So have dual monitors confirmed working with the 3.1 revision XFX in XP. :)

Cindori, I was still wondering why my fans suddenly rev up and down every few minutes? I don't care much about the noise, but I was just wondering if maybe thats a sign for something...

im having it too with my zsfc cards. prob driver issue.
you can plug the fan into a set volt by molex, making it run constantly same speed.

Hi Cindori,

after lot of tries I still cannot get my Club HD4890 "Superclocked Eddtion"
to work in my MacPro 3.1 early 2008. So far I have a 2 Monitor-Setup
with the HD 3870 MacEdition. Mostly I boot and work with Win7 (64) via Bootcamp. After lots of tries with several kext-files
I already reinstalled SL and updated to a fresh OSX 10.6.2

Lastly, after finding this post, I tried to flash it via the flashtool, but after installing "Natit" with the injector and putting in the HD4890 in I still get a
"black screen" ( like with all my efforts before ). And with a black screen I cannot flash anything!

I am missing something? I know that this card is not in the list right now.
(But I thought, it could work with another overclocked rom-version.)
Is this the problem for getting a black screen?

I made a backup from the original ROM with GPU-Z and ARE

thakns
mike

Hi,

sorry again!

don't know, how to make this with bootCD.

The normal OSX Install CD or with the Snow Leopard CD?
But then the Natit from the Flashtool is still the same, isn't it?
And then, which Natit should I use for my card?
And also I am abit angry that if it goes wrong I cannot boot
anymore even with my 3870 card. This is my working maschine.

Sorry for the stupid questions! I am not fit with OSX at all.

thanks
mike

PN =288-1E115-200SA
SKU= 1150-04-20R

Up for this ...
I've tried about a dozen ROM none working...
One of you guys must have an Original Sapphire DUAL DVI OC ??
If so please...

I need to check witth a excatly same ROM.
that way I will know if the card is dead or not.

(For the record :
-no signal out (except from gray vertical rays on a blank screen);
-back in a PC under WinXP beside a old pci vga card so i can boot after every flash i tried I reinstall drivers to windows then activate the card and everytime Blue screen with "error in ati2dvag.dll ... infinite loop :
// The driver for the display device got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your display device vendor for any driver updates.//
)

Help really needed ;
if one know how to be sure if it is a problem on the card side (dead; bricked ... ) or is ti just a rom trouble.. (for that just have to found the good ROM)

On one side i got hope and on the other , better start grabbin' some money

help needed !
Thanks
