Apple advised a full reset via itunes and this has 99% fixed my screen issues. Worth a try if you havent already done so.

Did few days ago and now it is back again... showing unresponsive screen from time to time - always the same. It works fine day or two and when it starts it gets worse and finally you see it on everyday many times... so restarting, resetting doesnt fix it at least not for me... it always comes back.

Hello all, after the last two updates my ipad pro 12.9’ 2nd gen has issues with not responsive screen often. I need to exit the application or click the home button multiple times or lock the screen and all goes well after. Did a factory reset but nothing helped. Anyone else with the same issue? I hope it is software

I fixed my problem (iPad Pro 11)! Goto Setting -> General -> Accessibility -> Touch Accommodations, Turn on Touch Accommodations. Leave everything else in the options alone. All my touch issues gone!

I originally thought there wasn’t a fix for this. I’m thankful that there actually is!

I can’t believe these problems been going on for years and yet Apple still selling the iPads like there is no problem at all!! I didn’t know this problem until I got my new iPad Pro 12.9 2018.

I just got my iPad Pro 12.9 2018 with the same problems. Have not had problem with the original iPad and iPad Air 2 at all! If I knew I won’t buy the new iPad Pro. My iPad Air 2 is still working perfectly except the battery is losing charges.

I believe it is hardware problem (Someone mentioned about unbending the iPad?!). Tried to cut corners and squeeze all those components in the pad?? Someone quotes Steve Jobs, 1995 perfectly!

For $1150 and getting a pad not as good as the old original iPad costing a lot less, I am so disappointed with Apple!

I am having this issue on a 2018 12.9” iPad Pro. It got so severe, I set up a Genius Bar appointment. They made me erase all content and settings, then set up as a new iPad to avoid the issue being a configuration issue in a backup. That has helped - it’s not as severe or frequent two days in.

The T key on the keyboard was worst affected for me, not sure if it’s because so many words feature the letter. Writing in Messages was a chore. Instagram also becomes more unresponsive than most other apps.

I don't think it is a software problem at all. The Genius Bar has no idea what is going on so all they can do is erase everything and start over! It "helped" but didn't "fix" the problem!
With mine everything is fine when I have my charging cable plugged in. As if now I have all the power I need to evenly distribute all the "power" to the screen area so all the "touches" are recognized! Design flaw?? Quality control?? (Not everyone has the problem)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tried plugged and unplugged charging cable many times and duplicated the problem! With battery 100% charged!
Again so disappointed with Apple!
Using Surface Pro to write emails now.

Does anyone know the scope of this problem? Maybe a class action lawsuit would be interesting! My iPad seems worse when I’m connected to the smart keyboard and if I tilt the ipad slightly (to correct the weird angle while lying down). Maybe i’m not supposed to tilt the ipad while connected to it?

After an online chat, two calls, and two Genius Bar visits, they’re replacing my iPad Pro. The woman at the second Genius Bar appointment saw me replicate it after a hardware diagnostic came up empty, her manager agreed it’s bad.

Any place but here or there....

Considering it’s happened since the first gen iPPs, and still going on with multiple replacements, who can say? Unfortunately, a class action suit might be the only way Apple addresses this problem.

It even happens on our 2018 iPad every now too once in awhile. Though I think most of the fails come from lack of RAM though, not the excessive heat I felt in my 2017 12.9 when in the midst of intense drawing sessions.

I am waiting to see what Apple will do with the next iPad mini, if there’s pencil support, I’ll probably pick one up. If it’s a pro, I definitely will.

I'll add myself to this list here. I started my own thread but then found this one and I've read all of it. My 10.5 pro started having this issue about a month ago and I've tried everything (except hitting it). First I updated to the latest ios, and then when that didn't work I updated to the latest public beta. No luck, both times it worked for a day or 2 and then started acting up again.

I then called apple and the CS told me to try wiping it and restoring it, so I spent an hour or so doing that. Again, worked for a bit and started acting up again. I now have an appt with the apple store for saturday.

As others have said, my issue occurs randomly and seemingly without reason. The only consistent problem is that it happens more often and more severely when plugged in and charging. Turning off multi-touch seemed to work for me, still happens but not as often or as severe. I also turned on the accessibility setting as suggested earlier. Since it's such a random issue I'm worried that the apple store is going to say there's nothing wrong and send me home.

Curious, how reliable is the Touchscreen test app (Vishal Singh)? It has 4.5 stars and seems to be well regarded. Whenever I use that app it's clear that there's an issue with the screen and I'm wondering if that alone will be enough for the genius to realize there's a problem.

Took my iPad 12.9 Wi-Fi 2018 in to Apple yesterday. Diagnostic check showed all systems working as they should (no surprise). Genius wanted to reset and restore as new. I declined because, my screen problem is random and only a minor nuisance at this time. It’s not worth it to me to go through the trouble of setting up my iPad again. I mainly wanted to document the issue.

My appointment is tomorrow morning. For those who have successfully gotten a replacement, what did you do?

I'm hoping that the genius can see the issue for him/her self. I've done literally everything to try to fix this, I even wiped it completely clean and set up as new and still have issues. I rolled back to 12.1.1 from the public beta and the issues got even worse. This is really unacceptable.

Good luck! I've gotten (refurb) replacement from the Genius Bar with no hassle. They replaced it immediately...but then the unresponsiveness started to develop again on the replaced one :( Started again after some time.
So try to test out your replacement immediately on the spot. Try hard!

Same here. Tried Hard reset, Touch Accomomdations etc. Didn't help.

I doubt they’ll issue a recall for this. If they did, they’d have to issue one for every iPad generation that is affected. It will further negatively affect Apple’s reputation.

My warranty replaced 10.5 that I picked up last week is not experiencing the touch issue.... so far. It has been 6 days so we shall see.

I got the replacement, easy and quick. I do t have a lot of faith though since it took mine from March until now to start having issues.

I started a separate thread a few days ago. I have the new 3rd gen version and one day it suddenly started to stutter. I tried everything I could including factory resets etc and nothing would work. I ended up realizing it was when I’d disconnect the Pencil that it would happen the most.

I took it in to the Genius Bar and was able to replicate the issue and they gave me a replacement unit, but there wasn’t much coming from their end about what it could be.

I had this issue on 2017 ipp and got a replacement at the end of the warranty period. I started having the same issue on my new 3rd gen 2018 ipp and thought it was just glitches but it’s becoming more obvious that it’s the same issue as my 2nd gen. I just submitted a repair request and will be sending it in to get a replacement. Hopefully the new one will be better. There’s gotta be a hardware issue with them.

Without doing anything software wise I’ve started carrying my 2nd Gen 12.9 differently in my messenger bag and trying not to have a lot of pressure placed against the center of the back of the device. Seems to have helped tremendously in reducing the frequency of unresponsive behavior of the touch screen.

I’m starting to suspect either flex/pressure on the laminated display is causing this issue or pressure in a certain area within the tablet like on the cables/connections. Doesn’t sit well with me that the newer generation is even thinner and more expensive.

Yeah, this or maybe the cable connection?

So I went to Apple Genius Bar and demonstrated my problem with the touch as my iPad (Pro 2017) was out of warranty the only option they gave me....was to buy the new iPad Pro 2018 (didn't mention the bending for sure). Wait what? When I asked what happens if I start experiencing the same on iPad Pro 2018 after the warranty expired they tried to sell me AppleCare+ on the top of it.

This is just crazy!

Apple now tries to make top dollar from thin air. The price of owning iPad Pro for me is $1,200/a year! (That includes the pencil that is of course only compatible with older models). This price doesn't justify anything. The device is still limited compared to the normal computer which costs much much less. I have a computer that I bought 6 years ago for the same price and it still works the same as on the day one. The fancy features, messaging, memojis they added to iOS during these years don't add up to the value.

It seems my next tablet won't be the one from Apple.
