Glad to hear. Unfortunately, I'm a bit jaded. We'll see...

Yeah, I’m not sure what to think at this point. But it hasn’t acted up at all since and I use it a lot each day. But I’ll definitely post again if it starts again. It’s so nice to be able to type without skipping characters again!

My husband and I have first gen 12.9. Under 11.x lag was horrible. It almost made our machines unusable. I found that a game I use, Mastermind, may have had some memory issues that caused lag on the whole machine so I would close it. Under 12.x, my machine is great, except occassionally Safari has lag problems. None of my other apps have problems (pdf expert, goodnotes, photos, books, mail, messages, etc. My husband now has lag issues mostly with safari.

I bought a gen 2 12.9 his time last year and right away noticed that the centre of the ipad, the guts of it, between the glass and the back cover were not glued in place properly. If you gently press the screen and the back aluminium cover at the same time, it would expel air from the charging port and speakers. similarly, whe you release, it sucks the air back in. When doing this, I could also feel something inside that felt like glue not quite sticking, as if whatever holds it together wasn’t doing it’s job properly. Anyway, i took it in and they swapped it and that one was the same. I got it swapped again and have had the same screen issues that everyone else here has had. It got noticably worse about 6 months ago, but the last few days it has been unusable at times.

I think i will be taking it in for a swap before the warranty runs out next week! For the price they charge for this junk, you’d expect them to come up with a fix by now.

P.s. had to go back over this post to correct all the missing letters ffs!

I have the freezing as well. Happens frequently when typing on the keyboard and in a host of apps. 2nd gen 12.9 which I’ve had maybe 3-4 months. I already tried the the erase and reset everything and that didn’t change anything. Did all the iOS updates though haven’t Tried the latest one yet. I also have the 10.5 which I have had for a year and never had this issue.

Quite frustrating.

I’ve had this problem for some time too.... I’ve tried restoring which fixed it for a while. I noticed that when it froze, the quickest way to unfreeze it was to hold it sideways to force it to re-orientate. Anyway, wondering if it could be an issue with the orientation detection, I switched it off and I’ve had no more random freezes since.....

3 days ago was about to go to apple service and try to get a replacement. As a last measure I decided to slap the screen as somebody in this thread so I slapped the center of iPad screen pretty hard (not crazy hard). So far no glitches! I’ll report if the issue returns.

Interesting! It's been 11 days since I slapped/punched the screen and it's been running fine since. Definitely a physical issue of some sort I think. Something not seated correctly or loose connection etc.

I experienced this with mine, got it replaced right outside of warranty for $80 (I complained to the mgr) and over the past 2 months doing it again. Trading it in for the new one and if the all new one does it, it will be my last and I will be forced to migrate to something like the MBA.

Well, it's now Tuesday and my iPad has been working flawlessly ever since I gave the screen a good smack on Saturday. Don't know what to think, but it appears that there must have been something loose or not seated properly that slapping it corrected.
One of the speculated potential causes is a delaminating screen. Maybe a slap helps the layers adhere to each other again?

I've turned off 4/5-finger gestures in settings (as has been mentioned in this thread) and have not had the issue since. It's a workaround, for sure, but since iOS 12 came out I don't really need those gestures anyway.

So, after all of the frustration and having swapped out my 12.9 2nd Gen a few times for the non-responsive screen, I have a 3rd Gen coming next Wednesday. I really hope Apple worked out the apparent design flaws and this new one does not experience the touch issue.

Apple are going to swap it for you, or are you buying it?

My issue was a bit different from your, its just that my 1st gen ipp was not so responsive to the apple pencil only, so i went to Apple Store and got replacement. And now it has screen issue, which some points on the screen seem brighter than others. Quite disappointed. But i have no choice but new ipp 12.9 with whole new accessories as i have to take note on it :(

I have a 12.9” and there are times when I try to type on the keyboard and nothing happens. Sometimes the screen freezes where I can’t scroll other times it’s just the keyboard. It’s very annoying. I hope my new Pro doesn’t have these issues.

I removed all my widgets and I get it less now, it didn’t go away entirely though. It frustrates me because I don’t have the conscience to sell a faulty product to get the new iPad.

Well, it’s now been exactly 2 weeks since I smacked my sceeen and it’s still working fine. My conclusion at this point is that it may be a manufacturing issue where something isn’t seated properly. I wasn’t expecting this result, that’s for sure.

Unfortunately for me the problem returned 6 days after I slapped the screen.

Apple advised a full reset via itunes and this has 99% fixed my screen issues. Worth a try if you havent already done so.

I’ve done a full reset a few times but the problem would always return, sometimes just an hour later.

Wow, I haven’t tried percussive maintenance since the last time I had a 19” B&W TV and the horizontal hold went wonky. Good to know it still works???
