I think I bought your used one . . . ☹️

Honestly give the screen a solid slap with the palm of your hand, sorted mine out, guessing it was either something not quite in correctly or something to do with the gyroscope as it always lost touch when I tipped the screen away from me.

So I'm not ready to say this this fixed for me YET but it does seem like iOS 12 Public Beta 2 has really improved things.

Just wondering, what iOS are you all are in now and are you all using Lightning accessories of any kind when these occurs?

I am starting to see two patterns in my usage:
1. 11.2.6 not having this issue but 11.3.1 has this
2. Usage of Lightning accessories seem to make this happen a lot more frequently

ios12, and it is not related to the accessories, it happens when you are just using it (without accessories). And actually when the ipad doesnt react well to fingers, it works fine with an apple pencil if i try with it.

I think it happens less and not so hard as it was with ios11, but i have started to see the ipad pro totally freezes sometimes as it started earlier too. But hard to really say anything, because my ipp worked fine couple of months i got it, so i need yo use it with ios12 for month or two to see if ios12 actually made it any better (or worse).

The same here. Old iPad Pro 2017 I sold was on iOS 10 and I was having a lot issues with it. Second iPad Pro 2017 was on iOS 11 and now it is on iOS 12. Upgrading didn’t make any difference. And as other people said here ipad was fine for about a month but after that issues started to appear while charging then without charging or using any accessory(yes, I tried unpairing Apple Pencil and turning off Bluetooth). But when I use Apple Pencil, it works perfectly.

Today the freezes got unbearable. It is almost impossible to use the device. It took me almost 5 minutes to write this post. I think freezes happen more when I tilt the iPad a certain angle but I am not sure.

Just got a reply from Apple and after running tests, pulling all kinds of info over a space of time, they have concluded it is hardware related. Recommended I go to my local Apple Store and have it fixed or replaced. No longer under warranty.
Oh, and I am already on IPP 12.9 G2 LTE third unit. Go for a fourth?

Sigh ....

btw - a new issue. Bare IPP with nothing attached, I get the following alert, randomly -

So mine go so bad last night I finally wiped it clean and did a restore of my backup. Been perfect since doing that.

If you haven’t tried it I would recommend giving it a shot.

I tried restoring the iPad as a new device, didn’t work too. So I had to go back to Apple Store Singapore and get another replacement iPad, forcing me to 11.4.1 from 11.3.1. Thankfully so far there are no issues but we will see.

Here’s some pointers from the staff that helped me with this case:
1. The iPad Pro is a pressure sensitive device. This is due to it having a pressure sensor under the screen. This means that you should avoid placing heavy weights on the iPad at all. One common mistake by some customers is to place the iPad on the backmost area of their backpacks (e.g. at the compartment that is also meant for paperwork) and then having the backpack placed such that this area is being pressed down by other content of the bags, which exert undue stress on the iPad and eventually making the screen too close to the pressure sensor, leading to these phantom touches. Having proper pads around the iPad like a sleeve will help mitigate this. Alternatively simply place the iPad in another compartment.

2. As for battery bloating, the possible symptom include getting a quishy feeling instead of hard feeling when touching the iPad and even screen delamination. The touchscreen should still be responsive as per usual barring other issues like the one mentioned about.

3. Screen discoloration can be caused by either issue. This means you can use this as a visual indicator of sorts on the health of the touchscreen.

4. The Apple diagnostics do not have swipe tests unlike for the iPhone :(

Doesn't help my issue but this is good info to know.
Thx!

Gee, your situation is tight indeed :(

Possible to at least sell off this "accursed" iPad Pro 2?

It's a pity by the way; it is the strongest tablet in the market after all and great for gaming!

Any place but here or there....
Waiting to see what Apple announces for new iPads then make a decision. Biggest issue is I do not have Applecare and it is out of warranty.

Either I will look to get number 4, or a new iPad, or the new Pixel Slate ...
I just know I am not a happy camper with Apple.

Probably waiting and asking for a new model is the best bet. I’d contact a senior rep at Apple or someone at the store where you swapped to try and get something in writing. Obviously, have the AC rep conversations and previous swap receipts with you, after 3 tries that is ridiculous. Good luck.

I wasn’t able to get a replacement from Apple, so I sold mine. For the upcoming model, I will wait for a good sale. Thought I could just skip these, but the 2018 iPad is lacking when using Procreate, etc. That is why I am not trying a Surface hybrid, the apps.

For those selling their iPads with this problem... are you disclosing it to the buyer? I can’t imagine someone buying it and discovering the touchscreen is garbage and being okay with it.

I have had my iPad Pro 12.9 replaced twice for random unresponsive screen issues. They never questioned it. Just brought out a brown box, activated it and sent me on my way. This 3rd iPad has lasted longer without exhibiting the problem but it seems to be happening again. Ugh Apple what has happened to you?

So, even though there are those of us posting in this thread that have this problem, I'm going to hazard a guess that this must not be widespread. If it was, there would be protests in the streets. I mean, the iPad relies solely on a touch interface. I'm just perplexed as to why "we" are having this issue even after multiple exchanges, but that it hasn't turned into "touchgate" or made any kind of headline.

I'm just so frustrated with this device right now.

Same issue over here. I bought the 2nd gen iPad 12.9 on its initial release in June 2017. I first got it exchanged end of May 2018, because of the irresponsive screen issues.

The issues came back last week, so I scheduled an appointment at the Genius Bar today. Got a 2nd replacement without many questions asked. The Apple staff was seemingly embarrassed about it happening again (funnily, it was the same guy as for the first replacement.) I have AppleCare+ so I'd be covered until June 2019, but hopefully I won't need a third or fourth replacement like other people in this thread? Let's see.

I also got a free replacement for my Smart Keyboard (which was spamming me with the "This accessory may not be supported." popup when connecting it,) despite it being out of warranty for like half a year.

Been to two different Apple stores and both were familiar with the issue.

May have to try that. Am getting that message also but not always when the ASK is attached :(

Mine wasn't that super frequent either, but enough to be annoying. The error message came once or twice a day. At least once a week the Keyboard also wouldn't connect without restarting the iPad. The Apple guy said they are allowed to exchange it past warranty if it has some kind of connection issues. He wasn't really testing it though, so he just believed my report on it not connecting properly.

Same for the irresponsive screen issue BTW. It was more like "AGAIN? The same thing? Ok, let me get you a new one. I'm so sorry." While it is certainly annoying to go to the Apple Store such regularly (and for the same issue,) I'm happy that the exchange is a rather stress-free experience without too many questions asked.
