My ipp 12,9” 2nd gen becomes unresponsive from time to time and especially when charging it. However, when it is unresponsive it reacts to the pencil as normal but not reacts to my fingers at all.
That’s exactly my issue. It becomes unbearable when I work in Cubasis and plug midi keyboard (irig keyboard I/O) that charges the iPad. Without charging it becomes much better but the issue still persists.

If this is a systemic hardware issue it’s starting to sound like a class action lawsuit.

Im calling tomorrow to the customer service and ask them to give an explanation to this issue and when we can expect it to be fixed. Im sure it is not a hardware problem, because so many people have it and new replacement devices start behaving the same way. Surely they already have heard about it many times and have some sort of answer.

Would like to hear their response

I am on my second replacement. My previous all started not responding. Now, today, this one has started doing it too. I know what causes it but there is nothing I can really do. The size of the 12.9 and the way I hold it to use it (left handed, on the edge) causes eventual delamination-like separation which makes touches stop being detected.

Did Apple tell you that holding it at the edge with your left hand would cause the separation?!? As a Southpaw myself, it seems strange (though not too much given Apple’s software and hardware issues) to hear left handed use could be contributing to the cause.Sorry you and everyone else has to go through this.

Frankly, I am just disgusted with Apple with this latest hardware flaw.

It seems like this issue will happen to anyone that uses the iPad where it heats up for a long time. When its hot the screen is unresponsive, sometimes completely unresponsive for a moment.

This issue scares me with a now out of warranty 2017 12.9 (paid with Discover, and extended warranty still honored from original purchase date) but I have a silicone case and generally handle it pretty carefully -- i.e. don't wield it with one hand all weight on one edge or anything

Hopefully that's working in my favor, knock on wood

They would not acknowledge anything about it. I had to make it fail in front of him on both occasions and he just grabbed a new one. However, the second time, he did say he was going to send it in for engineering to review.

Glad you got yours sorted. So annoying though, I could not make mine fail. May your new one behave.

While I no longer have mine, it heated up a lot when I was drawing with Procreate, it would be very warm in spots for at least 10 minutes.

I know it heated up in other circumstances too, but this did not always result in an unresponsive screen at the time it was warm. Still that makes sense.

that is: ”the issue have been there from 2015 and apple hasnt fixed it”. try to write something when the screen doesnt response. force restarting helps abit, for few minutes...

My iPad Pro 9.7 will also freeze (totally) temporarily for about 10-20 seconds and then it will start working again, registering in less than a second every input I had put while it was in frozen state. It only trigger while I am typing but once it starts happenning it happens throughout the OS.Seems to srop randomly. What could cause this?OS update doesnt seem to have any meaningful impact

IPP 12.9 2nd gen.

Sometimes no reaction to finger - only to pencil.
Some dead pixels.
Apple original Keyboard does not connect properly anymore. (sometimes it works and sometimes all of a sudden it doesn’t)

Went to the Apple store and they run a check.

Screen is just fine :/

It’s so annoying.
I got frustrated....

Has anyone been given a free replacement for this issue out of warranty? My 12.9 2nd gen is now over a year old without Apple Care. Hugely unresponsive touch and lightbleed. No physical damage.

I have a Genius Bar appointment for 23-Sept to get my 3rd iPad 12.9 replaced because the screen stops responding. This is ridiculous! There is something wrong and I can’t be the only person (we) having these problems. There are probably millions of 12.9’s out there. Why am I so lucky? I do nothing special except don’t use a case. Should I have to use a case so that the weight of it does not cause failures by holding it on the edge?

I use my 2 replacement with the case and rarely hold it on the edges. Still after 1 month issue started to occur.

ios12 didnt fix the problem... but now im quite sure that the worst problem exists when the battery level is around 60% and below... 80-90% is fine, lower that 80% you start to see the issue, around 60% it is already annoying. i have been monitoring the battery level and the issue, and screen becomes partly unresponsive when the battery level start decreasing lower than 80-90 %.

I’ve got the same problem with my iPad Pro 2. Unresponsive for some time and then it works. Annoying, I think I’ll try to exchange it...

I have been having problems with my iPad Pro freezing for about 5 seconds at a time. This is my second iPad Pro too,2nd generation with same problem. Hard reset didn’t help. Very annoying. Guess I will bring it in to Apple store again.

They couldn’t find anything wrong. Wouldn’t repeat at the store. They reset the whole iPad and told me if I still
had problems they would replace it. Of course I had problems again, so they replaced it. This second one I’ve had for about 3.5 months now. Problem getting worse. I just made a genius appt for this Tuesday.

IOS 12 didn’t change anything in my case. I find the problem to occur more when connected to the smart keyboard. Maybe it’s a side-effect of a frequent loss of connection to the smartkeyboard ?
