Just wondering if those affected are still experiencing this drain since updating to the latest iOS 14.6? Having removed my AirTag from my account a couple of days ago until things were resolved, I figured I'd set it up again last night to see what happened. This time my battery drain was only 1% overnight rather than the previous 25-30%. I'll keep an eye on the battery usage stats over the next 24 hours to see how things go.

Testing a similar thing. Took the battery out of the AirTag yesterday and updated to 14.6. The 24 hour activity summary shows 21%. Today I'll remove the AirTag from my account.

Testing it on an iPhone12Pro Max since Saturday. One Tag in my backpack, which is usually with me, almost never in NFC-distance (if ever important) I did remark 16% background activity of FindMy, no unusual battery drain.

... maybe important: I checked Find My abbout three times since setup, because seeing my backpack with me I did not have to.

I did however remark a significant drop in background activity % since updating to 14.6. But it never affected the battery.

Yes same issue, tried it las night. 100% battery drain during my night sleep 7h. Drained my iPhone SE 2020 from 80-55%

It's so weird - from the various reports I'm seeing it seems almost random. Especially the people who have multiple devices but it only affects one of them.

Personally I've seen better results since 14.6 and removing/adding my AirTag again. Over the course of today Find My has used minimal battery compared with what I saw over the weekend. My current battery level is 65% remaining, and background activity of Find My has been 25% of that usage... which equates to under 10% total battery used by Find My in the last 18 hours. Whereas the first two nights I was seeing 25-30% total battery usage across approx 5-6 hours overnight from the Find My app.

(Those figures are slightly out, as my phone was last charged to 100% 18 hours ago, but usage shown in Settings for Find My is calculated across 24 hours... but it's close enough and still shows my battery loss due to Find My is behaving a lot better than it was a few days back)

Will be interesting to see how it performs during my testing tonight. Surely this can't be widespread, otherwise we'd be seeing a lot more reports across the internet. It's certainly a problem though.

Yes. Strange. Just 2 of 3 iPads exhibiting this drain. Both iPhones are ok. iPhone 11PM and 12PM. All running latest iOS except iPad mini 5 which is on beta.

Guys - Apple also has employees looking for buzz "out in the wild" - I'm sure they've seen this thread (plus, there's other feedback from testers) - they could be doing back-end infrastructure changes to better tune Find My activity.

Everyone should be using feedback assistant to send all info they can back to Apple on this.

Another quick update 48 hours after resetting and reconfiguring my AirTag. I'm happy now that my battery issues have somehow been resolved. For each 24 hour period over the last 2 days, Find My has only used approximately 8% per day of my total battery charge. This is a vast improvement over the huge battery usage I'd seen last weekend.

So I'm not sure what fixed it for me - was it simply by removing the AirTag from my account and setting it up again from scratch, or something else? I hope anyone else still seeing issues can get theirs resolved somehow too.

I did this twice and didnt fixed for me. Tried with one air tag only which is always nearby and 2nd try one which is far away in my car, still draining battery.

Still everything ok here. No battery drain at all. Find My does have 19% background activity 24h/ 18% 10days, which is about, what Whatsapp does on my iPhone 12.
Not checked Find My itself (why should I - my backpack is still here...)

14.6 has resolved most of the battery drain issue
Keep in mind if you constantly test the find feature or the lost mode to test it out your battery is going to go down

I have two AirTag devices enabled on my iCloud account. This is my 2020 iPad Pro (Wi-Fi) on iPadOS 14.6 with Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard attached. It hasn't left the house since fully charged. When I took it out moment ago, I'm shocked to see the 1% battery remaining.

I have the same issue on my iphone 12 pro (ios 14.6) + 1 Airtag - battery usage from "Find my" is over 10%, it runs constantly every night in background, the tag is always near me, during night time it drains ca. 20%.

Here's a quirk. The Airtag had no ill effect on my iPhone 11 Pro, but massive battery drain (40% or more) on my wife's iPhone 8.

Yes. I've been saying this throughout this thread. There's a ton of variability between devices! Even my iPad mini running beta is affected. My iPhone 12PM and new iPad 12.9 pro is not. But my other 2 iPads show massive background use. No idea why. Settings all exactly same.

I have 3 and I have 100% overnight. I lose about 35% battery on standby in about 9/10 hours from Find My activity

OK, my airtags are off (batteries out and removed from Find My) until this gets figured out. The "Find My" app is using a ton of battery on my 2021 Ipad Pro and our iPhone 8+. For some reason, it's using just 2% on my iPhone 11 Pro. Just a long-shot, but I used my iPhone 11 Pro to set up the Airtag too.

All devices using current software, and I removed Airtag and reinstalled yesterday.

I had the same issue—started a chat with Apple and got the below response…

I had the same issue; since yesterday updated to the latest iPadOS Dev beta 2, iPad Pro 2020 batt drainage decreased a lot but Find My app batt usage is still the highest one on the list.

Had this with my 2021 iPad Pro and unpaired all airtags and the iPad is back to normal. Weirdly the iPhone itself didn’t seem affected.

Having the same issue: iPhone 11 Pro mostly fine but massive battery drain on iPad Pro. WTF Apple?

For those where drain varies so much between devices, which device did you use to set it up? It's probably a coincidence, but the device I used to setup the Airtag was the only one without excess battery drain.

I set them up with my iPhone 12 PM. But there's minimal drain on my new iPad 12.9 too. My iPad mini 5 and iPad 8th gen and iPhone 11PM are terribly draining especially overnight. All devices have exact same settings.
