I know $20 isn't much, but still I can't help to think this should have been avoided, and I'm certainly not going to reward Apple for such a stuff up.

What kind of message are people sending to Apple if they stuff around with early adopters and yet we still give them money? They'll think delaying this type of deal will be OK since a lot of people will pay anyway.

okay I figured out that MacRumors automatically put the replies into one post if they get published during an interval of one minute (I guess, sorry I always wondered why people were doing that but now I know its automatically done) I am quite Newbie as well

thinking of installing a copy from a friend first and redeeming the code later when i receive it so it appears in my MAS. good idea? do you think there would be any update problems?

I would assume that you would not have any problems updating as this was the case with Lion. However, since the Mac App Store is now handling updates, it might be best to copy the installer file from your friend and not to download it under his account on your computer.

Here is something that really sux....I registered, as I qualify for the free upgrade. Within 10 minutes I had my code + pwd. I followed the steps and clicked on redeem. I got the message "thank you for redeeming your code your software is now downloading". Then I checked my iTunes balance and it had taken $19.95 from the balance!!! Refund please!

I wonder, did Apple contract RIM to release this upgrade?

Has anyone here submitted their request within the last hour or so this evening? What happened?

Submitted my request around 7:30 PM CT. I received a confirmation page with a confirmation number stating that my request had been received. Two hours later and no emails.

I'm really liking the RMBP hardware, but the software experience has been far from perfect, and this isn't helping.

If I don't get it tomorrow morning I'm just going to buy it. I realize how ironic that sounds, but $19.99... no big deal.

It is kind of crazy thats its not an automatic thing for those of us who purchased the new one. It can and should be........My guess is they designed it this way on purpose to help stagger the downloads on their end ;)

i'd rather borrow a copy or use a "legitimate" copy first then wait for the code. its not like we're stealing anything.

Agreed, since we are entitled to it and it is software and not a physical good, I see nothing morally wrong with using someone else's copy.

a day is not a "few" hours

----------

I printed my confirmation, but got no email backup of it; thank god i printed

i took a picture of it on my iPhone

Wouldn't it have made more sense to have allowed people to apply for the update BEFORE the release date, so they aren't trying to juggle new purchases and validations of update coupons?

Furthermore, wouldn't it have made sense to explain how the system would work before hand instead of a vague "come back to this page when its released?"

And finally, does it make sense to delay people who already bought their Macs after June 12 knowing they were going to be updates, basically, putting the people who pre-paid to the back of the line and letting all the other people jump to the head of the line ahead of them? Or is it, hey, we got your money already, screw you guys while we make a money grab with these people.

Apple OSX...insanely great, or just insane?

well put...
