Update: sux

Here is something that really sux....I registered, as I qualify for the free upgrade. Within 10 minutes I had my code + pwd. I followed the steps and clicked on redeem. I got the message "thank you for redeeming your code your software is now downloading". Then I checked my iTunes balance and it had taken $19.95 from the balance!!! Refund please!

I wonder, did Apple contract RIM to release this upgrade?

I contacted Apple and got this reply:

I carefully checked your account "xxx.xxxx@xmail.com" I found that you have received the free upgrade and another charged for the same item.
After reviewing the circumstances of your case, we determined that issuing you a refund for your duplicate purchase is an appropriate exception to the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions, which state that all sales are final.

You will see a store credit of $19.99 CAD within 48 hours.

Thanks Apple!

Would it have been so hard to issue these things automatically if you've bought the eligible Mac using your iTunes login from Apple directly, instead of having to fill in a form full of information that Apple already knows about me and then waiting like some chomp for 21 hours, and counting?

FFS. Back to GM I go.

Just resubmited mine. Originally submitted yesterday at 9:30. Never got a response from Apple. I just resubmitted by continuing to click continue when it said the serial number was already used. This time it asked for a receipt. We'll see how it goes. Really shouldn't be this difficult. I would've just paid the $20 to save time but refused to out of principal.

Got mine within five minutes, which didn't work. Took around 18 hours for the replacement code.

This system is not what I expect from Apple anymore. It seemed far too convoluted, but I have it now.

If you have the time and you have been waiting more than 8 hours I would contact Apple.

Do not listen to people who advise you to "just buy it" as it is only $20. Apple is a better company than that.

i caved in and paid the $20, but will be requesting a refund when i receive the code and am confident Apple will process it.

install on base retina took more or less just over 10 minutes, smoothest major OS upgrade I've ever had, without the whole upgrade code delay.

Love the swish progress bar in Safari! worth $20 alone :-D

Some of my friends who got working codes yesterday within minutes of applying have received 'replacement' codes today, meanwhile I've been waiting 23 hours and have had nothing.

I called apple yesterday and was told it could take up to 24 hours to arrive, and to call back if I hadn't had one after that. If I haven't had it in an hour's time (and I'm not holding out much hope) I'm going to call again, and if they can't sort it out right away I'm just going to pay to download it then get a refund.

This whole thing has really been handled extremely poorly.

Submitted my claim at 3pm yesterday (BST), still no code.

I'm just called Apple support and they've re-sent me the code (nothing in my inbox yet) and asked me to ring them back in 24 hours telling them of success of failure.

i dont think this is a problem on apples side

i think this is a money making scheme as they know people will give in and buy it and leave it at that without calling to get a refund.... if you think, even if apple can make 100k on just that, they will do it... poor
