30 hours since registering for Up-to-Date...

... and I still haven't received my redemption code. I talked to an Apple tech support agent on the phone this morning and he indicated that it'll likely take Apple up to a month before I get my redemption code. Wha-wha-WHAT?! Is there anyone else who registered for up-to-date yesterday and still hasn't received their code?

A month sounds reasonable to me. They must have had thousands of people apply for the code. How are they going to process all those and check eligibility in 30 hours?

Be real.

36 hours and one unredeemable code, and I finally have a working code! Now downloading (45 minutes estimate to download).

I am appoaching the 36 hour mark. The Up To Date website says "a content code for OS X Mountain Lion, redeemable on the Mac App Store, will be emailed within 24 hours of order qualification."

I'm not aiming to be unrealistic -- I work in a similar type of enterprise and I understand the complexity brought on by the volume at play here. But the serial number of my new rMBP should be able to be instantly identifiable as such. Why is human validation involved?

In light of the massive wait times for redemption codes, why not just encourage those of us who bought new machines in the last two month to just pay the $20 now and then refund it when they get to processing whatever needs to be processed?

It's not in Apple's nature to be so operationally inefficient, and that's why this is so odd.

EDIT: The other thing to note is that two of my friends applied yesterday and got codes within 2 hours. I would like to be able to check on why mine is taking so much longer, but that doesn't seem to be available.

Um this thread. Use search, or eyes.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1410245/

People, like me, have been told up to 72 hrs.

Oh, so your case is different than mine. I haven't been told ANYTHING. I submitted the form and received no word on the screen about how long it would take, just that it was submitted. I haven't received a confirmation email indicating that it would take ANY amount of time. Who told you it would take 72 hours?

Serial numbers only tell you when a machine was made, not when it was sold.

I would have thought Apple would need to contact each reseller to confirm sale of the device.

Maybe your friend's devices were made so recently that there was no doubt they qualified.

Mine's a Retina MacBook Pro. There should be no question about when it was made -- it's eligible by its nature.

i just submitted mine too...i have 1 hour before i need to go, so hopefully it gets authorized before then

Same question here...
It's complete bullish*t that I have to wait even longer for ML. If I bought the Mac at a Apple Retail Store, the claim should be automatic.
Bet's on it will be several days before we get our download codes.

Ha! I applied for mine over 24 hours ago and still no Apple authorization. Seems like Apple wants to discourage folks into buying it. There shouldnt be any reason for the delay, especially since I bought my iMac from an Apple store.

We have these new fangled things called computers...

You act as if they have to be personally checked by people

Be real indeed

If it was bought from an Apple store then maybe.

I was thinking about my own case. Someone at work bought an Air a couple of weeks ago from http://www.dabs.com. I would expect that sale to need manual verification.

I applied for a code for them and have heard nothing yet. Not even a confirmation.

I don't understand why this is so painful for everyone. Yes, it's inconvenient, but there are no huge exciting changes between Lion and Mountain Lion.

What the Apple apologists need to understand is that most of us bought macs fully expecting to have Mountain Lion the same time as those who bought it on release.

How is it not possible for them to take two bits of info - order number and serial number and send out a code immediately if valid. Not hard is it?

What's more annoying is reading people caving in and just buying it even though they are entitled to a free copy. I guess this was Apple's plan "Hey we just got 2000 off this chump, lets see if we can squeeze another 20 out of him".

that's highly subjective.

Some people (not me) will think the twitter (and later fb) integration are pretty major, others the more iOS synchronizaiton, and yet others will think the changes under-the-hood (and there ARE some) are a significant shift.

remember, this isn't a 'point release' (10.7.x+1), it's a larger step up to 10.8, which should tell you that it's more.

I agree with you for the most part and am happy enough waiting a couple of days for this (I wasn't nearly as calm when my MBPR was shipping...). However, Apple made a big deal out of Mountain Lion at WWDC, so it seems fitting that consumers will make equally a big deal when they don't get what they're promised...it's a two way street.

That is the one thing that keeps me from caving in--although everyone I've seen who does this has successfully appealed for a refund.

But I'll be damned if I'm going to shell out a bit (tiny bit) more money for an OS that was promised free. (even tho i still have $95 credit at the store thanks to educational discount...it's the principal of the thing)

Apple disappoints loyal customers!

Still waiting on my Promo code to arrive. It has now been more than 25 hours since submitting my request. I called Apple a few minutes ago and was told that my request has been approved and that he, the technician, would resubmit my approval, but it could still take up to the 72 hours from yesterday to receive my email with the promo code. Also, if I did not receive it within the 72 hour period to call back in. This is ridiculous, if approved, then how hard is it to send a promo code via email. Apple should have these big launches running smooth by now, they have done so many and should expect and be prepared for anything at launch and remedy immediately. Precision is what we expect from Apple and what we deserve for the loyalty and price we pay for Apple products.
