When you get the code, does it credit $20 to your account to use on Mountain Lion, or does it just lead you to a direct download link to Mountain Lion?

Oh, so your case is different than mine. I haven't been told ANYTHING. I submitted the form and received no word on the screen about how long it would take, just that it was submitted. I haven't received a confirmation email indicating that it would take ANY amount of time. Who told you it would take 72 hours?

I called and was told that this morning. The thread I linked, I guess quite a few people got that as well. Apparently it is stock response, or common one at least. I too have machine that auto qualifies, a 2012 Air. I was considering buying it because I also have an iMac (which I want to hold off on since I want to make sure there are no software compatibility issues), but I just spoke with an Apple rep who said by redeeming and since ML downloads through the Mac App Store, I will get it on my iMac as well as part of the up to date.

I guess when you redeem it puts it in your account as "purchased" and since my iMac uses the same Apple ID, I will be able to download it there as well.

It's a redeem code. If you have ever used a redeem code to get a free song or a free app in the past on iTunes, App Store or Mac App Store, it's exactly the same... it just starts downloading, it's not a cash credit.

No you cannot purchase Mountain Lion and then use the code to be reimbursed. I assume that's why you're asking :D

Is there a verification email that shows there was an attempt to redeem a free copy of ML?

I've filled out the form yesterday morning ~9am and haven't gotten any response yet.

About to just go get the GM build from a torrent site.

Been 1.5 days now, since I am legally entitled to ML, I have no moral issue with it.

A month sounds reasonable to me. They must have had thousands of people apply for the code. How are they going to process all those and check eligibility in 30 hours?

They shouldn't say 24 hours (which is what it said when I submitted my request) if they aren't gonna make it.

Also, most purchases are probably through the Apple store, retail or online, and can be validated automatically.

Lastly, if it's gonna take that long, it should have been started before release day. It isn't like the up-to-date program was some big secret.

Realistically, sounds like they intended for it to be 24 hours and something broke. Meh. It happens. I would like to see a "hey, we got your request, it's taking longer than we expected, sorry about the wait" email. Instead it's a black hole. For all I know I fat fingered my email address and they sent the code yesterday. Or my mail server ate it.

I suggest anybody that would like a code that works to contact Apple and file a proper complaint. Yesterday I had the "code has already been used" error, and contacted Apple over the PHONE and gave them my contact information. The representative told me that it would be a day or two till I received it. I woke up this morning with a new code and everything. It is atleast worth a try.

Be real.

Not our problem.

Let us purchase and then refund us.

It's not like there wasn't enough time to make this all happen. I bought mine June 11th

Thought I'd give Apple a call to see how things were going down here in Australia. They checked my reference number and the bloke said my claim wasn't even approved yet, despite being 36 hours since submitting.

Also got the generic "72 hours" business since "it's the first few days of launch." The bloke also said to call back if it doesn't come after this time (although I don't know what good that will be... probably just more waiting).

So overall I didn't expect a code after the call, but at least we know now that as soon as 72 hours hits, shoot them a call and (hopefully) something will be done about it.

I just did a request a second time, and it accepted my serial number again... really weird :S I did give me a different reference code though, I decided to screenshot the code just for sure. Oh well I'm just gonna wait from now on..

After 34 Hours I finally got my e-mail and mountain lion is finally downloding. The sad thing is is that it is thundering hard in New York so the power might go out any second now. Need to charge this macbook asap.

I used the actual order date. I am not normally one to throw my hands up in a hysterical fit, but this is beyond ridiculous. It's 22 hours now I entered all of my info.

Good to know I didn't screw it up by putting ship date since order date isn't working much better. Still waiting for a code, working or otherwise.

Finally ...

I put in my request before 7am yesterday, and just got my code within the past hour (around 4pm).

So 30+ hours for me, but it did come through eventually. Downloading now...

Well, I tried to resubmit for a 3rd time but I got "this is an already claimed serial number", so I guess that's a good sign. Maybe I'm in the queue now.

31 hrs.
