Still, I think there will be another ipad mini. Maybe not this year, but if it's selling that well for a 3 year old device there is no way Apple won't update it at some point.

Of course, some have been saying the same thing about the Mac Mini... and how's that working out for ya? :D

We go though this every year. There will be no iPad mini, no Mac mini, no MacBook Air, no iPhone se. just drop it already. Move on. There no indication that Apple has those products on the radar and why would they? Those products hade run it’s course. Let it go, at this point they are depleting the stock.

“They haven’t for a long time so they won’t” has little logic to it. It’s simply cynicism. Your opinion (which you state as fact) is no more valid than any other opinion here.

While Tim Cook himself has said the Mac mini remains an important part of Apple's lineup (though he never said an update was forthcoming), and people have been in a slight state of despair for a while.

I have been skeptical whether Apple plans to update the Mac Mini, but there is now a somewhat plausible rumor: https://www.macrumors.com/2018/07/11/apple-product-updates-fall-kuo/

So the "slight state of despair" is now becoming a state of wildly optimistic expectations. ;) https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2018-mini-spec-price-predictions-hopes.2127155/

Those who believe we're getting something significant in an upgraded Mac Mini are banking primarily on Cook's comment that the Mini was an important part of their product line... and whether or not that pans out in a meaningful way, at least the Mac Mini hopefuls claim to have info from Cupertino about an update. Conversely, rumors, which may very well include statements from Apple's high command, have indicated that the iPad Mini, in fact, is a dead end. Not sure we're talking apples to apples here.

I love my iPad Mini, but I hold little hope for an update.

Yeah I'm definitely feeling the same way. The stats seem to hold out clear evidence that there is demand for it though, it's just a question of how Apple plans to respond to it now.

The only reason I haven't bought a mini is because it's so outdated. Yes the iPhone will be big but I like a middle ground. I have the pro 10.5 but it's just a bit big for some stuff.

ipad mini 7.9 size + less bezel + full display oled = Amazing

i hope apple release 2 new ipad
which is ipad pro + mini
so people can buy themselve pro and their kid mini for christmas /

everythig in a plan :)

Even though I have no use for the iPad mini anymore, I still love it so much. My wife is still using my old iPad mini 3 as her primary iPad, and every time I pick it up I miss it a little bit. It's such a great form factor and paved the way for the current standard sized iPad design language.

That being said, I don't think there's going to be a 5th one. I understand why people want it, and I think my wife would upgrade if it came out, but it's just not a significant seller anymore. Someone above said 18% of all iPad sales--I'm pretty sure that estimate is MUCH too high. And the standard 9.7" iPads are a much better value now.

I agree it’s far to high. The estimate reflects the U.S. domestic market only and retailers have offered a $100 discount on iPad mini every other month. Consumers who want a cheap iPad pick the mini. I think it’s clear retailers aren’t selling enough without pulling the price lever.

I miss the mini since it is so easy to carry around all the time... I find that since I switched to the regular iPad size, I use it less and less.... so easy to grab the mini and go anywhere !!

I think there will be a mini 5. Last couple of years have missed updates as Apple wants us to buy into the larger pro models.

Now is the time for the mini to return with less bezel, OLED and sweet internals. Mini Pro will make crazy sales.

Dream ipad lineup:

1) 13” bezel-less iPad Pro with face ID
2) 11” bezel-less iPad Pro with face ID
3) 8.5” bezel-less iPad mini Pro with face ID and pencil support

I think the above lineup plus the low cost 9.7” ipad would pretty much cover all the bases.

I know i am not alone for my love of the iPad mini. It really is the perfect travel iPad. Even with Apple’s upcoming 6.5” iphone X plus, i still think there is a market for the ipad mini. Even the largest smartphone is not ideal for extensive websurfing, emailing, blogging and photo/video editing. I guess we’ll find out soon enough if Apple plans to discontinue the ipad mini, but i sure hope they don’t. At least a speed bump with pencil support please.

lt looks like Apple has delay the iPad Mini again! How much effect would be for Apple to just swap out the A8 for an A11, upgrade 2GB RAM to 4GB RAM and call it a day? Keep the same camera, screen and chassis? Good for another 4 years without Apple spending any R&D expense at all! A week of testing and it is set to go! It would be cheap upgrade with really no expense on Apple parts since all the components are from iPhone 8!

Apple can mark up the price to for doing nothing and I buy it with LTE and 512GB flash for $700!

It's not about effort, the problem is poor sales of iPad mini 4.

Since 2016, iPad mini 4 has received regular price drops to $275-299. Right now, Walmart is selling iPad mini 4 for $299. Last week, it was $275 at Best Buy. That's an indication of Apple pulling the price lever to move iPad mini rather than it selling due to merit.

The iPad mini goes against the current Apple strategy of elevating iPad as a computer with productivity features.

Dropping an A11 into iPad mini does nothing to solve the consumer preference for phablets nor does it advance the role of the iPad family.

I don’t think it’s as easy as simply swapping components. For example, more powerful chips and more RAM requires more power and that impacts power management and battery capability. Changing a single component can have a chain reaction effect in the hardware architecture, along with significant impact on software and other hardware components.

There aren't enough people like you (willing to spend $700 for an iPad Mini) to make it worth Apple's effort.

I thought the mini had very decent sales? I believe I read something like 18% of all ipads sold, although I'm not sure of the source. I know the 8" market otherwise has completely died out for windows and is on its last legs for Android, wait are there any Android 8" tablets? I think Samsung had one of the last 8" tablets. So it does make sense that it has poor sales, I'm just not sure if that's truly the case.

I know I'm just one consumer, but I find the difference between a phablet and an 8" tablet a HUGE difference. Even more so that all the phablets now have these idiotic narrow aspect ratios, makes the 4:3 ipad mini seem like a dream to consume content. There are definitely times when I don't want to lug a tablet around, but have no issue at all sticking a 8" tablet in my back pocket even if I have a phablet.

I do hope they revamp it though, smaller bezels, pencil support and power port/keyboard case in addition to the usual proc speed bump and maybe a small camera bump would be awesome.

The 18% number is based on the U.S. market only. Sort of like iPhone SE, it sells because of price. The mini receives a $100-125 price cut every other month from Walmart and Best Buy.

There may be a huge difference between a phablet and iPad mini, but most users don't carry around their tablet.

Tablets are being used most often at home for relaxation. That's the conclusion drawn from the research data referenced in this Adweek article from 2015. Tablets are used outside of the home less than 15% of the time. Given the "stay at home" role, the portability aspect of an iPad mini has little value. A few posters have emphasized the "pocketability" benefits of iPad mini, but in reality few people do that.

Given this information, we see Apple's focus on 9.7, 10.5, and 12.9-inch tablets.
