On the latest beta I seem to be getting severe delays in updating my location and the removal of sharing ETA has forced me back to google maps until further notice

No new maps for me but I was navigating last night, and saw a LOT of green on the map through NH and MA. It seemed to have pretty detailed building info when I was driving through towns that I had not seen before. Also navigating went pretty haywire in the middle of the 3 hr trip. It was constantly redisplaying the current directions, like it was rerouting, but I was on major highways the whole time. At one point it just completely stopped navigation, and returned me to the search screen, so I had to hit "Directions" to get going again. I saw a lot of "Proceed to the Route" while I was on I-93 and I-95.

It also totally failed to recognize the insane amounts of construction going on, so I was about 15 minutes late getting home from the original ETA.

All of this is to say that it seemed like the maps were updated in navigation mode only? Definitely not updated otherwise. I think I saw someone else speculate about that earlier. And the navigation in general seemed different, for sure. Not sure if that's a good sign or not.

Navigation/CarPlay mode does seem to be different as many have pointed out in the NYC area. I've been expecting a lot of goofy behavior with all of the layer changes going on before and during map changes. Doesn't seem surprising for you since you are in an area that has already had partial release of the new Map data.

I'm driving from Boston back to suburban NYC later today. Will have to check out if any differences. I did not notice any on my way up here on Tuesday (right after the new NE maps made their partial debut).

Yes, New York City has always had "new maps" detail, but only in navigation mode, and only within a certain distance of Manhattan. So a good chunk of the Bronx, and some areas of western Queens and Brooklyn have had the added detail.

I've been keeping a VERY close eye on my navigation maps going to and from work, but I'm not seeing anything new. When it comes in, it'll probably all come in at the same time.

No, actually...I *DID* see something different yesterday driving to work. I didn't want to bring it up in the past so as to not distract our awesome thread with political stuff, but I may as well.

Next to the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge in the Bronx is the Trump Links Golf Course. While the golf course shows properly on Apple Maps as a POI, for some reason it would never appear while driving past it in navigation mode. Typically, when driving in navigation mode on a highway (whether on Apple CarPlay or not), the map is zoomed out quite a bit. The map will typically only display the names of the nearest four roads which cross the highway you're on, but the map also displays certain POIs while on the highway, such as parks, hospitals, shopping malls, universities, and yes, even golf courses.

Even if the golf course is a few miles away off to the side, it would usually be displayed on the map with its name. But Trump Links never showed on CarPlay, even while driving right past it. I wondered if some techie at Apple had done so intentionally. It was like this for the past two years or so.

But last night, Trump Links appeared for the first time on the map as I was driving by. It wasn't steady though. It would appear for a bit, vanish for a few moments, and then come back again. But that shows perhaps that things are changing behind the scenes.

Even in areas without updated maps, driving around in navigation mode outside of major cities would usually produce a lot of green. Only the green was like, thrown around with no real placement, and it would disappear completely if you zoom out past a certain point.

Yeah but this was a significant increase of green. In places where I had never seen that before. And extremely detailed shorelines near the Connecticut River, which is also new. This was in a very rural location. It used to just show the road and a bunch of beige. I was seeing a lot of water information, too. Really small streams where they hadn't been before, etc.

Been seeing this kind of micro detail in Connecticut for about a month now. The green is much more closely aligned (intentionally!) to the satellite imagery of wooded areas. Streams are showing where there were none. If only they would move my "street" over from my neighbor's driveway to my shared driveway (the "street") I'd be happy!

I was thinking about this last night. You should check with someone that has the latest update!

Nothing new for me heading home from work this morning. But the daytime map looked really sharp. Apple Maps also properly warned me of a lane closure on the highway I was on, and it was actually correct.

Get me this update Apple....c'mon....

Nothing new for me on my trip home from Boston yesterday. The base layer geography (forested vs non-forested, watercourses, etc...)has been in this improved state (as we know) for 6-8 weeks now, but nothing like the detail we're seeing in, say, Texas. Its curious that no one who posts here seems to have it and even on Reddit, there's been very little elaboration about it since the initial posting on Tuesday morning. Is it real or was this a hoax (and I am serious)?

I actually just went over to Reddit a few minutes ago, and was browsing their Apple Maps forum. There were some more photos shared of the Long Island/Queens area, and it's definitely all-new. The detail was amazing. As far as who can see it, it's totally random. Even some folks on a regular iPhone running plain iOS 12.4 have it.

I read a bunch more Reddit posts, reading peoples' stories of how the new maps suddenly appeared out of nowhere. One person was driving on Apple CarPlay when the new maps suddenly appeared. Another switched his maps over to Transit view, and the new maps suddenly appeared. I tried that myself a few times, but to no avail. lol

I'm going to lose my mind when this finally comes in. I was lucky, and was one of the people who got the California and Las Vegas updates long before anyone else did. But my luck has run out. lol

I'm flying to NYC 2 weeks from today and if I don't have the new data by then, I may lose it. :p

While I know where I'm going, I'll be doing more touristy stuff and am dying to see how it handles that.

I'll have to check on all of that. I was there late last evening, so must be new.

I tried the "Switch to Transit mode" thing. No dice...

Okay, check out these comparison pictures with what I posted above. First, these two pictures show what Jamaica Estates/St. John's University currently looks like on my phone. Compare it to the second image link above.

In fact, look specifically in my zoomed in shot of the houses between 165th Street and 166th Street. Then compare it to the new map link. On the old map, a few of the houses on that block had major size issues, where one half was for some reason taller than the other half. A few of the backyard sheds were also showing as being much taller than their surrounding houses. This has all been fixed in the new maps.
[doublepost=1565969628][/doublepost]In this photo, you can see the US Open tennis stadiums at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Compare this to the third image link above. Night and day. Wow.

IMG_9931.PNG

[doublepost=1565969815][/doublepost]Hmm...just noticed that in the second new image link, Apple Maps is using "Grand Central Pkwy Frontage Rd". Currently, Apple Maps simply uses "Grand Central Parkway", as the street signs say.

While not wrong, we refer to frontage roads in the northeast as "service roads".

Anyone have any issues navigating today? Everytime I opened Apple Maps in Apple CarPlay today, no matter where I was, the app had only a vague idea of my location. Instead of showing me as an arrow pointing in the correct direction I was facing, I was just a large circle, and it kept moving me around. After about 15 seconds or so it would lock onto my position, but the arrow would be pointing somewhat sideways. While driving, the app always seemed to be around half a block behind me.

I thought maybe Apple was doing some behind the scenes stuff for our anticipated northeast update, but I was experiencing similar issues on Google Maps via CarPlay.

Anyone else experiencing any GPS hiccups today?

Yeah mine was doing the “Proceed to route, oh wait you’re on the route, wait proceed to route, oh you’re on the route, oh screw it I’m done giving you directions” thing again. So I used Waze, which thought routing me through a mall parking lot was a good idea. Sigh.
