I do agree that this likely means a fairly imminent release. I’m guessing possibly after keynote on Tuesday or at latest on launch of iOS 13.whatever. Realize that it’s not OS dependent but it just makes sense.

I can’t believe how much I miss it already.

My wife got it in her 12.4 phone yesterday apparently. She didn’t mention until I commented about losing mine.

No update yet for me.

BUT, while driving home from work this morning, Apple Maps sent me on a routing that it has NEVER done before. I have no idea why it sent me this way, and there wasn't any traffic anywhere to speak of. The routing was a pretty neat shortcut, and it maybe even saved me a minute or two by taking some backstreets over the well-traveled main roads.

I think PNW is next.
I would say either the PNW or the Midwest. It almost seems like they are trying to knock out the more populated sections first.

I remember looking at the website months ago for where they were collecting data, and they had all of the Boroughs in Alaska listed. (EDIT: Just looked at the website to confirm this. They WERE covering Alaska from May-July of this year). I'm really interested to see how that all turns out. Especially when you consider that despite surveying all of the Boroughs...you can't get everywhere in Alaska by road. Other than my state...Alaska is one I'm looking forward to most. It'll be interesting to see how everywhere outside of Anchorage and Fairbanks looks. (And to what extent Look Around will be up there). If I remember correctly, out of all of Alaska's most populated cities, those two are the only ones that are connected to each other by road. Even Juneau and Ketchikan would have been a challenge.

I wish they showed parks and wooded areas the same as they do in light mode. In dark mode it seems like there is no green shading to mark off parks or grassy areas and everything just kind of looks the same. It’s important for me to have this feature available so I frequently find myself switching out of dark mode just for that one reason (while using Apple Maps).

When you say "just got" it on your phone...like within the past few hours? Maybe earlier today?

I check Apple Maps like every hour or so. LOL

I am so pulling for you to get this. You’re in the most target-rich location in the US for this.

Been testing google maps and apple maps. I noticed google maps tend to drain battery life much faster than apple maps. Can easily tell because my Iphone X screen starts to dim while using car charger and generally takes longer to charge the battery. The phone also runs incredibly hot. I tried a run with apple maps and took much longer to dim or not dim at all and battery charged faster. Can anybody here confirm it?

I get a similar experience with Waze on my XS

Was reading a Reddit thread. Someone, whose phone had the new Northeast maps, complained that after receiving the Northeast update, they suddenly lost all audio during navigation, except for when arriving at their destination. They contacted Apple, who stated it was a bug being worked out.

On his own, the user decided to do a complete reset of his phone, and restored a previous backup. After doing so, he no longer had the Northeast update, but his navigation audio was working again. That's interesting.

If you think back to April and May, I was having a lot of trouble with my Maps. Street name bubbles were not appearing, and audio directions weren't playing often. After complaining to Apple, the problems went away, and have never returned.

HYPOTHESIS:

As has been stated here, Apple's Maps updates are all server side. I'm wondering if random servers are selected to make changes to see how they work, and random users get to see these changes before anyone else. But not all changes work right before wide release, so those same users sometimes experience unintended bugs.

When Apple started updated Maps, I was previously always seeing the new updates before anyone else. I'm wondering if perhaps, after I complained about the bugs I was experiencing, Apple somehow moved my Maps connection onto their most stable server, which only sees the final releases. Hence, I'm not going to get the Northeast update until it's official release.

Agree re first paragraph. Doubtful on second.

Last weekend, I had to replace my iPhone. I also picked up an iPad mini while at the Apple Store. Updated them both to the latest iOS 13.1 beta at the same time. My old iPhone did not have the new Northeast maps but the new one does. The iPad mini does not have the new Northeast maps.

So, the other morning I mentioned that Apple Maps was suddenly giving me unusual or unique routings that it had never offered before, which was really awesome. Last night, heading to work, Apple Maps gave me a horrible routing, which had never happened before. Observe the below photo:

IMG_0144.jpg

Ignoring the current blue route line, imagine I was driving west on 31st Road towards 138th Street. Apple Maps would normally tell me to turn right onto 138th Street, then left on 29th Road, and right onto 137th Street to get to the Whitestone Expressway. But last night, Maps instructed me to turn right onto that little line that parallels 138th Street. That little line is a private driveway/parking lot belonging to a cooperative apartment complex. It's not a public road. It *does* empty me out onto 137th Street, which is where I needed to pass by anyway, but Maps shouldn't be routing people via private drives. Especially when it was 9:30 PM, and there was no traffic anywhere to be seen. There was no reason to be routed that way, other than Apple Maps seeing a through road, and sending me that way for the heck of it.

I can't even report it, because I haven't been able to get Maps to duplicate it. This is on the old Maps, so perhaps the new Maps will have better data indicating that these are not public roads.

Anyway, here's a shot I took this morning on my way home. Even on the old Maps, it still impresses me how good it looks. Love how the subway station looks so good, hanging over the highway like that, platforms and all.

I know this is jumping ahead a bit, but any guessing on what region could be next? I wasn't expecting the Northeast after the previous updates being in the southwest.

Same here. I bet they go "south" and finish the Southeast, and then move into the Midwest. After all of the U.S. is complete, I bet southern Canada (bordering the U.S.) is next.

While I've obviously been clear that I want them to do the Southeast next, it'll be interesting to see what kind of geography they cover even if they do move Southeast.

Prior to doing the Northeast, it seemed somewhat logical they might add Northern Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia at the very least, with the potential of Florida, Tennessee, or South Carolina as well. However, with them jumping to the Northeast, they could still go "South" and finish the Virginias and the Carolinas before finishing up Northern Mississippi.

Of course, I still don't have the Northeast on either of my iPhones, my iPad, or my Mac.

It'd be nice if the Northeast is updated in the next few days, because then maybe I'll get lucky and they'll add Georgia, at the very least, in limited release, so that I'd have a chance of getting it with my iPhone 11 purchase on September 20th.

I would not be terribly shocked if they release the whole US either tomorrow or when iOS 13 is released next week. The Northeast may have simply been a test bed for the largest (population-wise) remaining area.

Terribly shocked? No, I can't say I would be either, but with Apple saying by year's end, I don't really expect it to all be available this month either.

I received quite a few notifications over the weekend informing me of updates from submissions submitted as far back as June, and as recently as last week.

The DQ Grill & Chill now correctly shows up in the right location and correctly shows that they accept Apple Pay, but still has an incorrect entrance location, and still suffers from the bug that sometimes shows it in a wrong city.

The seemingly never-ending DQ Grill & Chill Maps POI saga continues:

I submitted an error report deleting the incorrect entrance, and then adding two correct entrances. They added the entrances, but not where I placed them. Now the two entrances are placed at a neighboring gas station's entrances, and they moved the DQ location to the back of the gas station's building.:rolleyes:

Must be a bummer when people drive in looking for a Peanut Buster Parfait and instead they are confronted with a greasy hot dog slowly spinning on rollers. :D

I thought that too at one point, especially when you consider the fact that they have all the US data ready to go. (I believe Alaska was the final state they were doing their first pass on, and last I saw was that it was finished in July). When I looked at the site, they began posting about states that they were going through again to stay as up to date as possible. But as cool as it would be...I don't think it will be all be this month either.
