Was reading a Reddit thread. Someone, whose phone had the new Northeast maps, complained that after receiving the Northeast update, they suddenly lost all audio during navigation, except for when arriving at their destination. They contacted Apple, who stated it was a bug being worked out.
On his own, the user decided to do a complete reset of his phone, and restored a previous backup. After doing so, he no longer had the Northeast update, but his navigation audio was working again. That's interesting.
If you think back to April and May, I was having a lot of trouble with my Maps. Street name bubbles were not appearing, and audio directions weren't playing often. After complaining to Apple, the problems went away, and have never returned.
HYPOTHESIS:
As has been stated here, Apple's Maps updates are all server side. I'm wondering if random servers are selected to make changes to see how they work, and random users get to see these changes before anyone else. But not all changes work right before wide release, so those same users sometimes experience unintended bugs.
When Apple started updated Maps, I was previously always seeing the new updates before anyone else. I'm wondering if perhaps, after I complained about the bugs I was experiencing, Apple somehow moved my Maps connection onto their most stable server, which only sees the final releases. Hence, I'm not going to get the Northeast update until it's official release.
