The most difficult modification I’ve ever done to a car...but it works and I’m enjoying Maps on it now.

Ode to the New Maps

New Maps, new Maps
Thou art the king of the apps
New Maps, new Maps
Why, O why, didst thou lapse?

New Maps, new Maps
With your details so grand you show even an apse!
New Maps, new Maps
Features galore, you invoke with but simple taps!

New Maps, new Maps
I knowest that your destiny is not the heap of scraps!
New Maps, new Maps
I await your return from your naps

Well, today's the day. Apple show starts at 1:00 PM Eastern Time. I may already be asleep by the time it starts. Might not wake up till 7:30 PM or so.

I'll keep you all in my thoughts. lol

so i'm confused here. Why does yours look like this and mine doesn't? it's very little green. however in other parts of the country it is updated. hmm

The Northeast has been updated and the updates have been rolled out to select users, probably as a test of server load, etc...

I had it for 10 days on my phone and then it went away.

*woke up and couldn't sleep*

I don't think iOS was mentioned even once during the presentation.

Nothing new on my phone yet, either.
They actually didn’t specifically mention software for anything today. That surprised me a bit. But iOS 13 comes out on the 19th, which means watchOS is as well. I’m assuming tvOS will also be the 19th. iPadOS and comes out on the 30th (as will iOS 13.1). macOS doesn’t have a specified date, from what I’ve seen so far. It just says October.

As for Maps, I’m not seeing any huge additions yet. But I’m noticing some smaller changes for my local area. A little bit more green (parks, mainly). But still no deep detail. And for all I know, these small little changes have been in my area for a while and I just hadn’t paid enough attention until now. It’s small enough to be easily missed.

Did not get (nor expect) any update with the new iOS 13.1 beta today. Really hoping its next week. After having the new maps, not having them is very disappointing.

Yeah, I agree. In my case, I had the new maps for the Northeast on my Mac, but that was the only device that showed it. Now I don't even have that. Was nice while it lasted

Why is that?

Why is it disappointing? The level of detail shown - buildings, roads, geography - is stunning. Sure, its all eye candy and getting you there is the key mission, but it is still pleasing to see something so well designed and implemented. Makes the earlier versions (and Google and especially Waze) look like drawings with crayons.

Not seeing any big changes so far today.

I'm also starting to get curious about how Look Around is going to be rolled out.

Like Flyover...just randomly with people online announcing it when they either see it or notice it being added in the depths of Apple's website.
But is it everywhere for those people? Or is it just limited to major urban areas?

I was simply referring the the release pattern. My guess would be it will follow the release of the Maps updates (SoCal next, for example), but there are still many areas of the USA that don't even have 3D satellite mapping. I was hoping that would change with the new maps areas, but that is still not the case.

Just checked where I grew up in NJ. I have the new maps data, but there is still no 3D satellite maps in many areas.

Like StreetView, there is no reason to believe Look Around will not be everywhere an Apple Maps Car has driven. They may even be prioritizing that over 3D satellite views.

Unfortunately, I found the answer. Select cities only.

Footnote 3 in this Apple feature release: https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-13/features/

Well...I'm sure that note is there just to prevent people from freaking out an complaining about NOT having Look Around the second they download iOS13. They won't even have updated Maps across the whole US by then.

Look Around will be available EVERYWHERE at some point...just on a different schedule.
