Go on your iPad, check out Look Around in the California Bay Area, Las Vegas, or Hawaii, and then zoom out to New York. ;)

I was about to try that trick and just opened maps. The new maps populated in Boston. You must have a secret skill.

My ipad - no though.

I have noticed too that the 3D buildings (sat view) has different 3D data than the "2D" maps "3D" view. If that makes any sense. That seems to be infinite to the northeast (3D buidlings in Carplay, etc) as far as you can go, but the sat data with 3D builings is still the older 3D layer.

I'm guessing that update comes with LookAround which isn't in Boston yet. Very cool for NYC though.

With the update to iOS 13.1.2, it appears that Maps is now remembering that I like it to stay in 3D mode! (At least on the phone. I’ll check CarPlay later.)

Also, despite the incredible accuracy of the new 3D buildings, my poor White Castle is missing its building!!!!

You can see the drive-thru lane snaking around it, but there’s no building foot print!

I wonder if you can report things like missing buildings?

I’ll be there in 2 weeks to pick up my wife at LGA. That building had better be back before then!

There's nothing specific for that as far as I can tell.

But what I did was, since the POI icon for that White Castle wasn't really centered, I moved it to the proper location, and then in the information box where you can add information when sending the report to Apple, I added a photo of their own satellite view showing the building, and asked them why the 3D building was missing.

On a block near me, there's a very tall apartment building that's missing as well. It was built around seven or eight years ago, so I don't think age is an issue.
I still can't believe that we got the Northeast update, Look Around in New York City, AND the traffic light info, all in the same day.

I understand that Look around is currently limited to basically the New York City five Boroughs and metropolitan area, but I wonder if the traffic light/stop sign info is available throughout the entire update region now.

Also, if the DOT decides to add a new stop sign or traffic light, I wonder if there's a way to report that? Or if we just wait for the Apple Car to come around again and snap new photos....

Ahh okay I see. Yeah it’s crazy it was all release at the same time. I’m eagerly awaiting the Pacific Northwest update. What do you think it next?

Drove around a bit this evening. Love the way everything looks. The night mode is a bit easier to tolerate, now that there's so much more to look at.

I'm finding a few small mistakes here and there in the highway instructions and such, which have of course been updated from the old maps. I'm assuming that Apple is using its own video footage from its vehicles to determine the latest readings on highway signs, and program them into our directions.

But while heading east on the Grand Central Parkway past LaGuardia Airport, Maps told me my next instruction would be to take Exit 9E onto I-678 East. I-678 is a north/south highway.

What I think happened, is that Apple's programmers (or AI?) got confused, as the highway exit sign has an "East" right underneath the I-678 shield, but the "East" is really on top of a State Route 25A shield, which it's intended for. It's all kinda jammed in there. But old Apple Maps had this exit correct, and I'm pretty sure this sign gantry hasn't changed since the TomTom era. Of course, I've "reported" all of these nagging issues to Apple.

Yep got the new maps AND they fixed my home address... Yippie!!

EDIT: still had to redefine my exact Home location on the new maps but at least the streets are there!

I feel your joy. A few years back I manually mapped our entire (newish) neighborhood both in Apple Maps and Google Maps. It brought me great joy when Uber and Lyft began to be able to find our house. It's fun to see the changes all take effect in other sites like Yelp, Redfin, and many others.

Seems to be limited to Look Around areas...I think...
Not quite. I'm seeing stop lights in areas without Look Around in San Diego.

I knew you were going to like it. Maps in iOS 13 is designed for these maps. Pairing it with the old Maps layers results in all the disjointed stuff you were dissatisfied with. I suspected as much but didn’t want to say anything.

Not seeing the stoplight and such in suburban Boston. Yet.

Routes that end in even numbers are typically east/west. Those that end in odd numbers are typically north/south. There are, of course, exceptions. Maybe they're trying to apply logic? lol

I have a feeling that the PNW will be next, but I think it would make sense to do the Midwest next. Justin O’Beirne (former Apple employee, I believe) has a website devoted to information about the Maps updates and he mentions that with the Northeast now being done...the updated maps now cover 9 of the 10 largest cities in the country. The final one to cover is Chicago. I'm a little biased towards wanting the Midwest done, since I'm in the Chicago area 😂. But if they're going by the order they collected data in, I think PNW will be next.

All in all though, I will be thrilled when the Midwest is done and I hope Alaska is included by mid-December, since I will be traveling up there for a week!

Heh, that's typically only true of two-digit interstates, though. Three-digit "spur" Interstates don't follow that rule.

Well so much for fixing my location/home issue. They once again deleted my street and another one within my complex. So I shot them another report. Weird
