In one of the recent iOS updates, it looks like they made the ETA bar and directional box a bit smaller. I had reported to them that the box was taking up too much space on my screen, making it harder to see the upcoming new maps data. This means that longer road names and directions will fall off onto another line, but I don't mind.
Playing with perspectives again. First, the new "normal".
And now, after jumping to the overview and back.
Notice also, that it seems Apple has a new road name algorithm. if the road name is a number between one and ten, Apple Maps now spells out the number. In the above examples, using Tenth Avenue instead of 10th Avenue. This was consistent across all of New York City.
What the hell is this??
This is also weird. This section of the Cross Island Parkway in Queens is labeled CR-CIP. I sent in a correction for this as well.
I've been reading some complaints about highway shields showing up in places where they don't belong in upstate New York, but I don't know enough about the roads in those areas to make my own corrections. Hopefully someone does it themselves.
Side note: My phone is occasionally still opening Apple Maps into 2D mode, although it's been better lately. It'll also sometimes open randomly to showing the entire country. Also, in CarPlay, finishing a route sends the map back into 2D mode, and I'm still seeing "static" in the directions box at night. These issues have yet to be fixed.
But the maps are gorgeous, and I just want to keep driving all over the place.
