Thank you so much for your advice... Because I am a glutton for IT punishment, I have ordered the Samsung 970 Plus. AND, since I am rolling the dice here anyway, I am also going to try to update to the Catalina beta and really risk the abyss! While hope is not a strategy, I am hoping that I will be in the lucky bunch... Unfortunately, the small Sintech is backordered at Amazon, so ordered the long one, and some Kapton tape. If the 970 Plus doesn't work out, I will return or sell it, and get the WD black or the Sabrent 2TB and press on. Will keep you all posted on what transpires!
As as side point, did you see that new generation Sabrents are out? The new gens are supposedly backward compatible and on sale at Amazon... But it seems that they require the heat sink and I do not know whether that would fit in the Macbook Pro... Is a shame not to be able to leverage these at this price!
Hey tarsand, I did see the Gen 4 sabrent (but not on sale). I don't believe my 2017 MBA can take advantage of the next ten features but I'd love to see benchmarks fron someone who tried.

Could someone suggest between the Sabrent Rocket 1TB, Crucial MP510 1TB, or XPG SX8200 1TB (also the Pro model???).Or any others not listed
I have an Early 2015 Macbook Pro 13", with currently 256GB
Blackmagic Disk Speed test gives me aroung 1000MB/s write & 1300MB/s read, so looking for improvements in this if possible. (mostly if i could somehow get H.265 encoded files to actually play smoothly)
I just got a brand new (old stock) 2015 13" Retina MacBook Pro as well (I wanted one of the last legacy MacBooks to join my collection) and I just installed a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO SSD.
This drive is super fast and there has been no issues at all since I installed it. I also popped one in my (new old stock) 2015 MacBook Air (11") last year (same exact SSD) without any issues.
It's important to install the latest version of macOS on your current stock SSD so that your MacBook's boot room is updated to the latest version, then proceed with the SSD swap/install.
You'll need an adapter card - the one linked below has been proven to be the best and more reliable (and the 'long version' linked below helps the SSD sit better once it's lightly screwed down).
Here's how the Samsung 970 EVO performs in my 2015 MacBook Pro:
I know this SSD and adaptor has been mentioned many times in this thread, I just wanted share my success story with my two legacy MacBooks. I trust the reliability of Samsung over the others, even if they bench a bit higher.

I'm on a MacBook Pro Mid 2014. Does it even make sense to choose the fast PNY CS3030 over the cheaper (but slower) Intel SSD 660p 2TB? Due to PCIe 2.0 x2 the maximum read/write speed anyway is capped to 1500 MB/s…
Trying to be clear on specific procedures for an 11,4 2015 MBP 15.
1. Can I use my existing SSD, the one in my machine now, with an external adapter, as my Mojave 'installer'? So, I'd install the new SSD and Sintec (is it long?) adapter, and then copy over the contents of my existing SSD to the new one. Will this effect both the ROM flash and the Mojave install onto the new drive?
It was suggested I buy someone dinner to do it for me. I have swapped SSDs in my iMac without flashing ROM, doing an installer of an OS. This is new territory for me but I'm not totally incompetent : )
If a new clean install of Mojave is required, how to I get the installer onto a drive? Is it Apple store? Just download it to the new drive?
Flashing ROM: if I have Mojave running on my laptop now, isn't the ROM already updated? How can I tell in the "About" area?
Thanks. I've been on this particular thread for months. Try to keep up, see a lot of kernel panic nightmares. This machine is all I've got, except for iMacs two stair flights up, and it's to easy with a dog, as I'm getting older. NO room for the iMacs downstairs. Thanks.

I just threw up a post and it seems like you've answered a lot. Congrats in your success! Is your MBP a 15 11,4? I have 10.14.4 already running on mine, is my ROM updated? Did you have to do anything for the slow boot, e.g., enter anything in terminal? Very encouraging to hear. I was looking on Ebay last night for another machine or an apple ssd but they are like 900 for 1tb!

Hi guys, I’m planning on upgrading a 2015 13inch retina MBP. And according to the specs on the first page Sabrent Rocket seems to be overall performer. Between the rocket and Samsung evo 970 which would you pick?

End of the problem: the Dutch vendor can't give a new Adata SX8200 Pro and today I installed a Samsung 970 EVO Plus, after I updated the firmware, then Mojave from an USB installer and my files and configuration from a Time Machine backup. And it is working!!! I have a MBA early 2015...

The Samsung 970 EVO SSD itself does not need ROM upgrading, it will work out of the box. I believe that macOS High Sierra (and above) will update your Mac's Boot ROM to the latest version (or at least the version needed for the EVO SSD install). I am running Mojave and my Boot ROM version is 186.0.0.0.0. I do not have slow boot issues with this SSD on either one of my MacBooks (Early-2015 13" MacBook Pro Retina and Mid-2015 11" MacBook Air). From power button to desktop takes about 20 seconds.

I can't say as I don't think I have any videos in that format (I am not familiar with it). If there is a test file posted somewhere for download, I'd be happy to try it out.
Glad to see this thread is still going strong. I've been running a 960GB Kingston A1000 in my 2015 15" Macbook Pro for about a year now with no problems.. other than the battery life. I chose this particular (slower) SSD as at the time it had the best power stats. After the first month or so of use though I've only been getting around 4 hours on a single charge.
Does anyone have experience with this drive, or perhaps have some tips on how to get a better runtime out of it? If not I'm now considering the Sabrent 1TB as a replacement.
Do you know, or has someone tested the new firmware update and can say if they were able to resolve the hibernate issue without relying on Apple adding the proper files to the bootrom on pre-2015 models like OWC had said they would be doing with their new Aura Pro X2?

I know it: any hibernate problem, not much heat not battery problems not delay...but I was talking about my own experience with a Samsung 970 Evo Plus + Sintech black shorter adapter in my MBA 13 early 2015. Samsung firmware update works so fine.
I tried to upgrade a MacBook Pro 13" 2015 with a Corsair MP510 and the long Sintech adapter, but I can't seem to get the pieces to fit.
My problems:
Do I fit the SSD sufficiently into the adapter? The SSD sit half a millimeter beyond the adapter, destroying the alignment with the screw
Is the screw supplied with the adapter too short, or the SSD too thick? The screw is just as long as the thickness of the adapter+SSD, so I would not be able to fasten it to the logic board. The SSD chips is resting to the adapter on the other side
If I rather need the short adapter, the Sintech online store screwed me, as that was on the pictures on the order page as linked in the wiki post...
edit: Cut it with a scissor near the base to make it short. Let's see how this goes.. Installing macOS now
edit2: Had some trouble with the restore media, it said it was not complete (???). Restoring from internet restore did not work either, maybe because I had formatted the drive as APFS and the El Capitan restore came up. Ended booting up via USB from my SSD from my current 13" 2010 MBP and cloning with SuperDuper to the internal drive. Seems to work fine so far, doing a backup with Arq Cloud just to be sure
Hello everyone. It is a very interesting and informative reading, to see so many cases and tests, but I am new to the subject and I need help and guidance. I have a 2017 A1466 MQD32E / A air mackbook. I want to change the hard drive for a larger one, since mine is currently 128 GB and I would love a 512 GB or 1 TB one. I see that many talk about putting a 1tb Ssd disk, but can that be? It is not supposed that the Apple page indicates that it has 512 GB, can you clarify that, please? Also, I'm thinking of putting an HP ex950, do you recommend it? Since it has been difficult for me to get an Sx adata or a 950 pro. I thank you in advance for the attention provided and sorry for the inconvenience caused by your time.

I bought the same MacBook Air earlier this year at a discount. I tried it with a short Sintech adapter and a 2TB Intel 660p SSD. Everything worked very well, but I couldn't stand the screen and sold the Air with its original SSD.
Hello How are you doing with your hp ex950? I'm thinking of installing one on my Mac, is it worth it? How about hibernation and problems with other SSDs?

On August 1st, 2019 Apple release a software update named "macOS 10.14.6 Supplemental Update" and the information listed in the update is the following:
The macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Supplemental Update fixes an issue that may prevent certain Macs from waking from sleep properly.
I assume this would come with a bootrom update. Has anyone with a 2013/2014 model replaced the original SSD and applied to update and then replaced their 3rd party NVME and verified if hibernate mode is now supported?
