Thanks, I'll be getting it as well. But how can i upgrade the EVO 960 once i get it? Will i need another pc or I may be able to do it through MacOS?
You should use carbon copy cloner to clone your existing drive to an external drive that's been formatted APFS using disk utility. Also make a high sierra bootable installer USB. Then when the 960 Evo comes install it and boot to the high sierra USB and open disk utility, change the disk tree view to show all devices, then format the 960 evo as APFS, unmount it, and restore it's container disk with the external backup you made. That's the easiest way for me, you can also try installing osx from scratch. Thanks, I'll be getting it as well. But how can i upgrade the EVO 960 once i get it? Hi again.Hi. I have Macbook Air 13” mid 2013, have also upgraded to Samsung 960 evo nvme ssd. All went well, have used it from last year december. Only issues were restart, sleep and battery drain. Using windows in bootcamp all is fine. But after last OS X High Sierra update I’m getting alot kernel panics and restarts. Seems like Member oscarxvita has. I’m using cheap chinese adapter. Using windows everything is fine and also using OS X in safe mode. I have read I can’ just roll back update, seems I have to reinstall system.
Noone else having this problem?
I just install Windows 10 real quick before installing macOS and the wifi driver from the broadcom folder in the apple boot camp support software. Then install Samsung magician and update firmware. You could also boot to a Linux bootable 960 EVO firmware update here. Then make it bootable on a USB using UNetBootin. But it's easier to just install Windows. You don't need a product key.Sorry, what I meant was how to upgrade the EVO 960's firmware. How could it be possible?
I've been hearing good things about the long one in this thread. I haven't tested it yet but many others have. I'll be testing it as soon as mine arrive.
It's been about a week. I'll update this thread when I test it. I'm curious to find out if it resolves the reboot issue as well. How long ago did you order yours? I'm really curious if the long black adapter fixes the reboot issue on some models. Looking forward to your results!
Thanks,
Peter
Hi everyone,
Just for info I received today the last Sintech adapters, and the new ones have exactly the same wiring diagrams as the large green ones... great news !
And they do work perfectly... Here are some photos...
[doublepost=1520606076][/doublepost]I can find a toshiba XG3 1Tb for less than $300. A 1Tb Apple SSUBX is almost $800 ....Unless you really want a drive larger than 1TB I don't see the point in frigging around with an adaptor & an unsupported M.2 NVMe drive that may cause kernel panics when new Apple SSUBX drives can be easily found on eBay for similar prices.
The prices aren't similar at all.Unless you really want a drive larger than 1TB I don't see the point in frigging around with an adaptor & an unsupported M.2 NVMe drive that may cause kernel panics when new Apple SSUBX drives can be easily found on eBay for similar prices.
How does reboot and sleep work with the Samsung drivesHi.
I’ve tested using a Samsung PM961 1TB and it is detected and works consistent with the Samsung 960 EVO.
I’ve also tested a Toshiba XG3 1TB but can’t get it to boot, I’m getting a panic report in IONVMeFamily Controller.
Both with the same sintech adapter. Might be just the drive as I only had one.
I have a MBP 13 inch late 2014. Normally I turn my computer off, because the time to turn it on is so short. But I have tried letting it sleep over night and during lunch etc. And it sleeps without issues, just wakes up and the logonscreen is there and I can continue working. The only problem I have had so far is at startup, when there has been 2-3 times when the startup chime has come two times. But always starting. No kernel panic. Green adapter and Samsung 960 Evo. I have the following settings in PMSET
standbydelay 10800
standby 1
womp 1
halfdim 1
hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage
powernap 1
gpuswitch 2
networkoversleep 0
disksleep 10
sleep 1 (sleep prevented by backupd)
autopoweroffdelay 28800
hibernatemode 3
autopoweroff 1
ttyskeepawake 1
displaysleep 10
acwake 0
lidwake 1
Thank you for sharing your experience, first.
Could you please check if your hibernatefile existing in '/var/vm/sleepimage' is generated normally?
For example, if the file was made normally during the night and your MacBook can wake up without kernel panic, the hibernation would work well, I think.
In addition, can you check how many amounts does your MacBook consume the battery during closing the lid without ac power?
Thank you in advance!
I tried last night and just closed the lid. Disconnected it from the mains. At 21:45 it updated the sleepimage (ls -lh /private/var/vm/sleepimage, size 1 Gb) and I woke it up at 0900 this morning without kernel panic. The battery was still on 100 %.
As far as I know, you're the only one who has no deep sleep problem, using 2014 mac. So I really wonder what the difference are between you and me. Yesterday I copied your pmset condition and re-tested deep sleep, but I failed. So I'd like to check my test terms again. Here are mine. If you have any difference, please let me know. Thank you !
