yes thank you, I took the short adapter from sintech
All that remains is to be sure between the 2 SSD models

So i had my first kernel panic which the MBA was in sleep mode it had got really hot

Any suggestions to avoid repeat
Any idea of what your panic report says? (issues with sleep/hibernate are not unknown)

You may want to try disabling sleep/hibernate first, it is known that your 2014 model will not support these drives at lower power states..

What’s the price difference like in your area? (P31 is probably your best option if the price isn’t too dissimilar, otherwise the SN570 is a great value option if the difference is too great..)

The first page also contains information on steps you may want to try to resolve this..
MacBook Air Early 2015 was updated with Sintech short adapter and SP A80 in 2021...

Initially, it had some kernel panics all related to NVMe... I solved the issue by placing Kapton tape on the laptop case under the SSD. Actually, the SSD was short-circuiting with the laptop case and the Kapton tape isolated it. After that, all panics stopped.

I describe this process somewhere in this thread...

I can confirm that the Silicon Power UD90 works great with the Sintech adapter on my 2015 15" and I also noticed that my read/write speeds are close to 3 GB/s, not bad!
So to follow up on this, I noticed that the battery life on my rMBP was fairly poor and would drain fairly quickly even when asleep. Earlier today I installed SsdPmEnabler along with NVMeFix, and these seem to have largely solved that issue. Obviously it still can't touch my 15" MBA on battery life but those fixes have made this machine more suitable as my backup.

One other thing I noticed is that my disk read numbers seem to gone up slightly after applying the power fixes...

Not too shabby for an 8-year old laptop (technically mine's from 2017 but still)!

Hi!

Just posting to tell another success story with a 2014 MacBook Air, Sintech short adaper from their official store on ebay and a 2TB WD SN570. No problems so far.

Cheers!

I just upgraded my SSD. Anyone experienced Boot loop before after installing new SSD to MacBook pro 2015?

Tried installing Monterey but after installations of the first files in recovery mode it reboots and says about 29 minutes left.

I upgraded my MacBook air in July, share my upgrade SSD experienc.

511 firmware.jpg

My first upgrade to SSD was using Kingston A1000 480g, and there were no abnormalities after using it for a month. After that, I replaced it with a larger capacity, which is still 960g for Kingston A1000,After installation, there were issues with hibernation, resulting in crashes and restarts,I thought it was caused by an incompatible hard drive, but even after replacing it with Western Digital sn570-1TB, there was still a problem of not being able to wake up during sleep, leading to a reboot. Obtained from searching for information, there is a chance that 2013-2014 macbooks will experience sleep problems,The solution is to upgrade the system Catalina or Bigsur with the original SSD (upgrade the hard drive firmware),Check if your firmware is above 471,I am updating to 511,After using it for two months, there was no sleep issue and there was a significant improvement in speed and capacity. However, the big sur system was too power consuming, so I downgraded it to Catalina.

The read and write speed has increased by four times, reaching up to 1400mb/s

I recently upgraded my Early 2015 13-inch i5/16GB MacBook Pro to the WD SN570 2TB SSD and was pleasantly surprised by how well this SSD has been performing on this laptop. For years I have been biased with the Samsung EVO 970 series SSD but it does not work as well as the Western Digital SSD does (much longer boot up times). I am making the shift to this storage drive on my other laptops going forward.

I was still concerned about battery life so I recently got an original Apple SSD (512 GB) to compare. Running Monterey I'm not noticing much of a difference between that and my Silicon Power SSD (which has a patched Ventura install) so my battery is probably due for a replacement soon.

EDIT: I just did a patched Ventura install on the Apple SSD and I'm not noticing a significant difference either way in terms of battery life. I'd rather keep the extra capacity and much faster disk speeds so the Silicon Power SSD is going back in.

EDIT 2: Wouldn't you know it, the battery was actually starting to swell so it underwent emergency surgery and I was able to get the battery out (with some isopropyl alcohol and gentle coaxing). Just waiting on a replacement now...

Yes, that's me. But I have a MacBook Pro 2014, and I don't know if it should also work with a MacBook Air. However, I also had problems to find the Crucial in the Internet Recovery. In the end I downloaded the Ventura installer and put it on a USB stick, booted from it, and then everything worked.
Hey there, I have a mid 2014 Macbook Pro (11,3) and I'm thinking of upgrading to a Crucial P3 Plus 4TB. Was this is the same SSD you used? I need to run it in Catalina OS only (I can't upgrade to a higher OS due to compatibility issues with my software), do you think it will work?

My Boot ROM version is: 433.140.2.0.0

Also, do you mind sharing the steps you used for installing your OS? Did you simply plug in the new SSD into your laptop and use a USB stick MacOS installer? I am thinking of using a USB stick with Catalina installer.

Also, how does the drive perform for you atm? You mentioned some issues with IOPS, does that interfere with everyday use?

Would love to hear your thoughts on this, and TYIA!

Hi everyone!

I currently have a 2014 Macbook Pro (11,3) and I would like to update my SSD to a 4TB drive.

I will need to stick to Catalina OS for the time being (not not upgrade to a higher version of MacOS) due to software compatibility issues.

Are there any recommendations for the brand and model of SSD that I should consider?

Thank you in advance!

Most models should work, there may be a need to research as some SSD hardware seems to run with higher power consumption by stock (start stock, then use the suggested kexts)

You can also use this database here (whilst not complete it should give you some idea as to what hardware you may find): https://www.techpowerup.com/ssd-specs/

Can someone please help me troubleshoot these kernel panics? They have been happening for the past 6 months. Would be forever grateful!

MacOS version: Montery 12.6.7 (Via Open Core Legacy Patch)

Mac: MacBookPro11,2 (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

Processor: Intel Core i7 2 GHz

Boot ROM Version: 433.140.2.0.0

SSD: Aura Pro X2: 500GB (firmware version: latest comes standard installed) + (no adapter needed)

Any steps you have tried already:

#1: Reseat SSD.
#2: Wipe disk and clean install different MacOS.

Could someone please have a look at these kernel panic reports causing MacOS to freeze (and requiring a hard shut down)?

The MMIO error could be caused by a number of factors, it still seems like there is some more things you can try (before ruling out

- OS/software - did anything occur on the different macOS? (before you installed OCLP?)
- System - double check EFI version (use SilentKnight or run eficheck from the following path: /usr/libexec/firmwarecheckers/eficheck/eficheck --integrity-check. You may also need the original Apple SSD as well.)
- Health of drive - use DriveDX to check internal conditions (if the drive is going bad something should show up, I think this is probably what's going on but can't say without another unit to test...)

1 - I was on Big Sur for a few months after the new SSD went in (official MacOS). No issues. Then I went to Ventura OCLP. No issues for a few months until performing an OCLP Ventura update. Kernel panics started after that and continued with each Ventura OCLP Update. Then I went ahead and downgraded (clean install by wiping SSD) to Montery OCLP. Less kernel panics now, but still plenty.

2.1 - This is what the command line returns after entering that line into the terminal:
"ReadBinaryFromKernel: No matching services found. Either this system is not supported by eficheck, or you need to re-load the kext
IntegrityCheck: couldn't get EFI contents from kext"

2.2 - A screenshot from SilentKnight:

3 - Copied the DriveDX report to pastebin: https://pastebin.com/zRYDmF1M

Looks ok to me.

Much appreciate your help in trying to solve this! :)

You could update the EFI firmware: replace your present SSD with the original Apple OEM SSD, and install the latest version of Big Sur on that. Latest version is currently version 11.7.10. The result should be an updated firmware, so, back to your current SSD.
I don't know if updating the firmware will result in no more kernel crashes, but it's just "fixing" something that is reported already. Maybe you will also find that the firmware update helps your other issues.

Is your firmware up to date? (BootROM should be at least 4xx.0.0.0; builds of this index should have the sleep/hibernate crash issue that pervades your particular model).

All hardware in order? (check for fit and proper contact, if it still persists after this possibly look at adapter or drive?)

Checked SSD firmware? (using an adapter, plug drive into PC, use WD’s drive tool to check)

What happens if you disable sleep/hibernate completely? (whilst this is harder on the battery it should mitigate any problems related to deeper sleep modes)

EDIT: It looks like your EFI should be up to date (log data says you are on the latest 11.7 build),
which should rule any Mac firmware issues out..)

Had the same issue twice today what i noticed was it mainly happens when either Chrome or Excel is processing something and MBA is going into sleep mode which for some reason i think caused the errors today

Had the same issue twice today what i noticed was it mainly happens when either Chrome or Excel is processing something and MBA is going into sleep mode which for some reason i think caused the errors today
You may have partially solved your own issue (KP related to sleep/hibernate with 3rd party drives on 2014 MY units are not unheard of..)

Unsure about the Google/Microsoft applications, are you able to to test those without sleep/hibernate enabled?
