In previous years, I have always pre-ordered through the Verizon site/app and always felt like the experience was a little clunky and disorganized, but I always got my iPhone on delivery day. Last year was the first time I pre-ordered through the Apple app and I am now wondering to myself why I didn't do this years before? The experience of pre-ordering through Apple is a smooth and simple process. It will be my preferred method of pre-ordering from now on :)
I agree with this 100 % .. its so easy through Apple

I’m part of the upgrade program through apple.

last year there was several months delay for the new iPhone, it didn’t come out until November. So people on the upgrade program had to pay an extra two months as we waited for the new phone.

This year the new phone is on time, but technically only 10 months have gone by, not the one year required by the upgrade program to be eligible to upgrade to a new device.

I got an email from apple though saying I’m eligible to upgrade now as part of the program.

Did apple fix the timing problem caused by their delays last year? Or at some point during this ordering process is it going to make me pay an extra fee to cover the extra two months? I assume the latter, even though it said I was eligible. And if so it seems unfair because last year we all paid an extra two months because of the delay, which means in total they’ll have billed us for an extra 4 months or $400 all because of their own delays.
I had made 11 payments as of this week....the 12th will be charged automatically when you pre-order.

I'm deciding whether to have it delivered to me or do in-store pick up. I've done both. Luckily I have Next Friday off so I could choose to pick it up.

I also prefer delivery because from my experience, you get the recently made phones if you do delivery, oppose to the ones for in-store as they tend to have the ones made in Early August.
I was thinking about this too. We’re leaving town next Friday around 1-2 PM. I was debating in-store pickup, but then I remembered the hold option with UPS and may do that instead. It worked out well last year for me…. Look at me talking myself into upgrading this year… (sigh)

Hey everyone! Back for our yearly thread for preorders. Got my pre approval done last night. Getting the 128GB Silver Pro Max this year. I’ve always gotten the smaller sized phones, but I figured I’d give the Max size this year.

So I'm not sure if anything changed since the last time I pre-ordered a phone, so I wanted to poll the group.

I'm seeing you can already pre-pre-order on Apple, which is awesome. However, I was planning on going through Verizon again to pre-order on Friday. Is that still a thing that you can pre-order through your carrier? Please pardon my ignorance, last phone I pre-ordered was my XS three years ago!

Thanks in advance :)
You can definitely order pre-order through Verizon. That’s my carrier, but I’m choosing to order direct with Apple.

Also, someone should be creating threads for the individual carrier pre-orders (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) soon if they aren’t up already. They all have their own process different from Apple.

HTH!

Well guess I’ll be preordering an iPhone 13 pro max! Wasn’t planning on it but those carrier deals are really good and my current phone is starting to show its age. I can’t wait!
My phone age is 11 months!!! But battery is down to 90%, time for a change personally.

MagSafe case on the way! Now I’ll have a case without a phone for a week 😂😂
I was bad ordered the Silicone Blue from Apple, coming tomorrow, and a clear from Speck I usually switch off. We shall see which looks better.

Yea if I did the home delivery, I’d choose the UPS hold. However, I live right across the apple store so I could just go with in-store. Plus, Apple is randomizing the serial number anyways, so you won’t be able to tell when it was actually made. ?

Quick note on ordering through the carrier. Since the 6 Plus through to the 11 Pro Max, I ordered my iPhone through Verizon. Every year there was an issue. From website/app issues, unable to apply my Device Dollars, delivery date changes, errors in applying credits properly, and of course, being locked into 24 month commitments (the new “contract”) if you take advantage of their special offers.

I ended all of that when I paid off my 11PM early, paid outright for the 12PM (sold the 11PM to offset costs), and ordered through Apple.

It was a night and day experience.

If anyone needs to spread their monthly payments, I fully understand. May as well take advantage of the carrier deal.

If anyone believes those deals are instant credits, unless specifically stated, they will not be. The credit is typically spread over 24/30 months and if you upgrade early, then you owe whatever is remaining (a contract without it being a contract). Also some of the deals (like what Verizon offered last year), require you to be on a higher tier monthly plan (5G, Max, whatever). So if you aren’t on that now, having to switch may negate some of the credit you’ll be getting.

Bottom line, start calling and and finding out now and I pray you get the correct information - because misinformation is also one of my not-favorite issues experienced when ordering with Verizon.

I’m not here to scare anyone. Just laying it out there for those who are not quite sure yet on what to do. Call your carrier NOW. Pre-order is less than 48 hours away.

I've been following your stories since the iPhone 6 launch and I am sorry that you went through troubles year after year. I'm like you, I ordered through Apple last year for the first time and it was the smoothest experience I ever had; I will never go back to ordering through Verizon website/app

Upgrading my 11 Pro to the 13 Pro. First time using the Apple Pre Order process. WOW, really smooth process to get the pre-order ready. Now just need to submit Friday morning and see how the rest flows. The trade in and the carrier credit almost covered the entire cost of the upgrade. Works for me.

But they locked you in on a contract? Right?

Got my pre-approval all set yesterday for a 256GB Sierra Blue Pro Max on T-Mobile. Now to just be up at 5am friday, oof, I selfishly prefer the midnight PST preorder times they used to do as I would just go to bed right after.

Awww, thank you! Resiliency wins! We’re free at last!

6 Plus year was fun actually. My first iPhone year. I hunted down my 6Plus on istocknow and drove 2 hours to Best Buy on launch day to get a Space Grey. That phone was sold out a couple of months. Good times.

I remember my 6 Plus pre-order. First time Pre-ordering through Apple's website for AT&T Next upgrade option, while I was working a graveyard shift at McDonald's. Took me, I swear, like over an hour to get my order in and ended up with the phone a week past launch. Was so much happier when they introduced the IUP the following year for the 6S Plus. I've now had the new phone on launch day every year since.

East coast here heavily disagrees :)
